    Efficacy of Carbomer as a Stabilizer for Lyophilized attenuated Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) vaccine

    A Peste des petits ruminant (PPR) is a category of acute fulminating infectious viral disease, affecting seriously sheep and goats. It is caused by PPRV that classified within a Morbillivirus; family Paramyxoviridae. Vaccination is the cornerstone to protect sheep and goats against such diseases. The present work aims to provide a highly potent attenuated lyophilized PPR vaccine where three formulae were prepared including formula (1) stabilized with 1% carbomer and 2% peptone; formula (2) stabilized with 0.5% carbomer and formula (3) stabilized with 2% peptone; 10% sucrose and 0.27% dihydrogen orthophosphate. The three lyophilized PPR vaccine formulae had compact similar cacks without different shape appearances. Also, the three formulae were found to be free from foreign contaminants (aerobic and anaerobic bacteria; fungi and mycoplasma) having no significant difference in the virus titer pre- and post-lyophilization. Reduction in the virus titer post lyophilization was 0.25, 0.5 and 0.5 log10 TCID50/ml in relation to formula 1; 2 and 3 respectively. Although formula (2) induced the peak PPR serum neutralizing antibody titer earlier (128 by the 3rd week) than the other 2 formulae (128 by the 4th week); the potency test revealed that all vaccine formulae were potently inducing high protective PPR immune levels in vaccinated sheep up to 6 months post-vaccination. So, it could be suggested that carbomer accelerate the time to reach the peak of PPR antibody titers in vaccinated sheep

    In this paper we address the problem of optimizing mixed CMOS/BiCMOS circuits. The problem is formulated as a constrained combinatorial optimization problem and solved using an tabu search algorithm. Only gates on the critical sensitizable paths are considered for optimization. Such a strategy leads to sizable circuit speed improvement with minimum increase in the overall circuit capacitance. Compared to earlier approaches, the presented technique produces circuits with remarkable increase in speed (greater than 20%) for very small increase in overall circuit capacitance (less than 3%

    The CaMKΙΙα-Cre mouse lines, possibly the most used Cre lines in neuroscience, have resulted in over 800 articles to date. Here, we demonstrate that the second most widely used CaMKΙΙα-Cre line, Tg(Camk2a-cre)2Gsc (or CamiCre), shows ectopic overexpression of synaptotagmin 2, the most efficient Ca2+ sensor for fast synchronous neurotransmitter release, in excitatory presynapses of Cre+ brains. Moreover, the upregulation of immediate-early genes and genes incorporated in bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) transgenes, such as L-proline transporter Slc6a7, was found in Cre+ hippocampus. The copy number and integration site of the transgene are suggested to have caused the aberrant gene expression in Cre+ brains. Most importantly, CamiCre+ mice showed functional phenotypes, such as hyperactivity and enhanced associative learning, suggesting that neural activities are affected. These unexpected results suggest difficulties in interpreting results from studies using the CamiCre line and raise a warning of potential pitfalls in using Cre driver lines in general

    Gender differences in the accuracy of dobutamine stress echocardiography for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease

    The accuracy of dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE) for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD) has not been yet evaluated in women. We studied the effect of gender on the accuracy of DSE for the diagnosis of CAD in 306 consecutive patients (210 men and 96 women) with limited exercise capacity and suspected myocardial ischemia who underwent coronary angiography within 3 months of DSE. There were no serious complications during DSE. Men had a higher prevalence of nonsustained ventricular tachycardia (7% vs 0.03%, p <0.05) and supraventricular tachycardia (9% vs 0.03%, p <0.05) during the test compared with women. Peak stress rate-pressure product was not different in men and women (18,140 ± 4,187 vs 18,543 ± 4,223). Significant CAD (≤50% luminal diameter stenosis) was present in 171 men (81%) and in 62 women (65%, p <0.005). The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of ischemic pattern at DSE for the diagnosis of significant CAD were 76% (confidence interval [CI] 67 to 84), 94% (CI 89 to 99), and 82% (C175 to 90) in women and 73% (CI 67 to 79), 77% (CI 71 to 83), and 74% (Cl 68 to 80) in men, respectively. Overall specificity was higher in women than in men (p <0.05). Regional accuracy of DSE was significantly higher in women than in men in the 3 arterial regions (84% [CI 79 to 88] vs 75% [CI 72 to 79], p <0.005). It is concluded that DSE is a safe and feasible method for the diagnosis of CAD in women.

Reverse genetics was utilized to delete the entire recN gene (Delta recN108) or introduce the recN(K35D) gene into the E. coli chromosomal DNA.     Evidence of Color Coherence Effects in W+jets Events from ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV

    We report the results of a study of color coherence effects in ppbar collisions based on data collected by the D0 detector during the 1994-1995 run of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, at a center of mass energy sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. Initial-to-final state color interference effects are studied by examining particle distribution patterns in events with a W boson and at least one jet. The data are compared to Monte Carlo simulations with different color coherence implementations and to an analytic modified-leading-logarithm perturbative calculation based on the local parton-hadron duality hypothesis.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures.     Search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos in events with three leptons and missing transverse momentum in √s = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

    A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with three electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum is presented. The analysis is based on 4.7 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded with the ATLAS detector. Observations are consistent with Standard Model expectations in three signal regions that are either depleted or enriched in Z-boson decays. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in R-parity conserving phenomenological minimal supersymmetric models and in simplified models, significantly extending previous results

    Measurement of the polarisation of W bosons produced with large transverse momentum in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment

    This paper describes an analysis of the angular distribution of W->enu and W->munu decays, using data from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2010, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 35 pb^-1. Using the decay lepton transverse momentum and the missing transverse energy, the W decay angular distribution projected onto the transverse plane is obtained and analysed in terms of helicity fractions f0, fL and fR over two ranges of W transverse momentum (ptw): 35 < ptw < 50 GeV and ptw > 50 GeV. Good agreement is found with theoretical predictions. For ptw > 50 GeV, the values of f0 and fL-fR, averaged over charge and lepton flavour, are measured to be : f0 = 0.127 +/- 0.030 +/- 0.108 and fL-fR = 0.252 +/- 0.017 +/- 0.030, where the first uncertainties are statistical, and the second include all systematic effects.Comment: 19 pages plus author list (34 pages total), 9 figures, 11 tables, revised author list, matches European Journal of Physics C versio

    Observation of a new chi_b state in radiative transitions to Upsilon(1S) and Upsilon(2S) at ATLAS

    The chi_b(nP) quarkonium states are produced in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector. Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.4 fb^-1, these states are reconstructed through their radiative decays to Upsilon(1S,2S) with Upsilon->mu+mu-. In addition to the mass peaks corresponding to the decay modes chi_b(1P,2P)->Upsilon(1S)gamma, a new structure centered at a mass of 10.530+/-0.005 (stat.)+/-0.009 (syst.) GeV is also observed, in both the Upsilon(1S)gamma and Upsilon(2S)gamma decay modes.
