Exponential Critical State Model Applied To Ac Susceptibility Data For The Superconductor Yba2cu3o7-ÎŽ
We derive new expressions for the average magnetization loops, M(H), based on the exponential critical state model. The components ÏâČ and Ïâł of the complex susceptibility are calculated and an algorithm to fit ac susceptibility data is discussed. This algorithm is employed to study the intergranular response ÏâČ(Hm) and Ïâł(Hm) measured for two samples of YBa2Cu3O7-ÎŽ as a function of the ac field amplitude Hm. One sample is a porous sintered cylinder and the other is a very dense melt-textured bar. In both cases good fits of the calculated components ÏâČ and Ïâł are obtained using an algorithm that involves two free parameters, the full penetration field. Hp, and the sample quality factor, p. An interesting result for the melt-textured sample is the observation of a step in ÏâČ(Hm) curves at very low Hm. possibly associated with grain clustering. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.80633903395Goldfarb, R.B., Lelenthal, M., Thomson, C.A., (1991) Susceptibility of Superconductors and Others Spin Systems, p. 204. , edited by R. Magnetic relaxation and magnetization field dependence measurements in La0.5Ca0.5MnO3
We reported a systematic change in the average magnetic relaxation rate,
after the application and removal of a 5 T magnetic field, in a polycrystalline
sample of La0.5Ca0.5MnO3. Magnetic relaxation measurements and magnetization
versus field curves were taken from 10 K to 160 K. The long time behavior of
the relaxation curves was approximately logarithmic in all cases. Keywords:

Magnetic Field Dependence Of The Curie-weiss Paramagnetism In Crv Alloys
The determination of the magnetic properties of antiferromagnetic Cr alloys requires careful consideration of the influence of the applied magnetic field. In this work we show that alloys of Cr-x at. % V present a Curie-Weiss paramagnetism above the NĂ©el temperature, which is suppressed by a characteristic field HL. Samples with x=0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 were investigated through measurements of the magnetic susceptibility as a function of temperature, for different values of the magnetic field. A magnetic phase diagram showing the characteristic line HL vs x at. % V is proposed. © 1997 American Institute of Physics.818 PART 2A42094211Suzuki, T., Takaki, H., (1964) J. Phys. Soc. Cosmic Strings in the Abelian Higgs Model with Conformal Coupling to Gravity
Cosmic string solutions of the abelian Higgs model with conformal coupling to
gravity are shown to exist. The main characteristics of the solutions are
presented and the differences with respect to the minimally coupled case are
studied. An important difference is the absence of Bogomolnyi cosmic string
solutions for conformal coupling. Several new features of the abelian Higgs
cosmic strings of both types are discussed. The most interesting is perhaps a
relation between the angular deficit and the central magnetic field which is
bounded by a critical value.Comment: 22 pages, 10 figures; to appear in Phys. Rev.
Complete Classification of the String-like Solutions of the Gravitating Abelian Higgs Model
The static cylindrically symmetric solutions of the gravitating Abelian Higgs
model form a two parameter family. In this paper we give a complete
classification of the string-like solutions of this system. We show that the
parameter plane is composed of two different regions with the following
characteristics: One region contains the standard asymptotically conic cosmic
string solutions together with a second kind of solutions with Melvin-like
asymptotic behavior. The other region contains two types of solutions with
bounded radial extension. The border between the two regions is the curve of
maximal angular deficit of .Comment: 12 pages, 4 figure
Enhancing the effective critical current density in a Nb superconducting thin film by cooling in an inhomogeneous magnetic field
peer reviewedQuantitative magneto-optical imaging of a type-II superconductor thin film cooled under zero, homogeneous, and inhomogeneous applied magnetic fields, indicates that the latter procedure leads to an enhancement of the screening
capacity. Such an observation is corroborated by both B-independent and B-dependent critical state model analyses.
Furthermore, repulsive (attractive) vortex-(anti)vortex interactions were found to have a decisive role in the shielding
ability, with initial states prepared with vortices resulting in a shorter magnetic flux front penetration depth than those
prepared with antivortices. The proposed strategy could be implemented to boost the performance of thin superconducting devices
Transitions of cardio-metabolic risk factors in the Americas between 1980 and 2014
Describing the prevalence and trends of cardiometabolic risk factors that are associated with non-communicable diseases (NCDs) is crucial for monitoring progress, planning prevention, and providing evidence to support policy efforts. We aimed to analyse the transition in body-mass index (BMI), obesity, blood pressure, raised blood pressure, and diabetes in the Americas, between 1980 and 2014
Postoperative complications after procedure for prolapsed hemorrhoids (PPH) and stapled transanal rectal resection (STARR) procedures
Procedure for prolapsing hemorrhoids (PPH) and stapled transanal rectal resection for obstructed defecation (STARR) carry low postoperative pain, but may be followed by unusual and severe postoperative complications. This review deals with the pathogenesis, prevention and treatment of adverse events that may occasionally be life threatening. PPH and STARR carry the expected morbidity following anorectal surgery, such as bleeding, strictures and fecal incontinence. Complications that are particular to these stapled procedures are rectovaginal fistula, chronic proctalgia, total rectal obliteration, rectal wall hematoma and perforation with pelvic sepsis often requiring a diverting stoma. A higher complication rate and worse results are expected after PPH for fourth-degree piles. Enterocele and anismus are contraindications to PPH and STARR and both operations should be used with caution in patients with weak sphincters. In conclusion, complications after PPH and STARR are not infrequent and may be difficult to manage. However, if performed in selected cases by skilled specialists aware of the risks and associated diseases, some complications may be prevented
Measurement of the cross section of high transverse momentum ZâbbÌ production in protonâproton collisions at âs = 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector
This Letter reports the observation of a high transverse momentum ZâbbÌ signal in protonâproton collisions at âs=8 TeV and the measurement of its production cross section. The data analysed were collected in 2012 with the ATLAS detector at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fbâÂč. The ZâbbÌ decay is reconstructed from a pair of b -tagged jets, clustered with the anti-ktkt jet algorithm with R=0.4R=0.4, that have low angular separation and form a dijet with pT>200 GeVpT>200 GeV. The signal yield is extracted from a fit to the dijet invariant mass distribution, with the dominant, multi-jet background mass shape estimated by employing a fully data-driven technique that reduces the dependence of the analysis on simulation. The fiducial cross section is determined to be
ÏZâbbÂŻfid=2.02±0.20 (stat.) ±0.25 (syst.)±0.06 (lumi.) pb=2.02±0.33 pb,
in good agreement with next-to-leading-order theoretical predictions
Measurement of the branching ratio Î(Îbâ° â Ï(2S)Î0)/Î(Îbâ° â J/ÏÎ0) with the ATLAS detector
An observation of the decay and
a comparison of its branching fraction with that of the decay has been made with the ATLAS detector in
proton--proton collisions at TeV at the LHC using an integrated
luminosity of fb. The and mesons are
reconstructed in their decays to a muon pair, while the decay is exploited for the baryon reconstruction. The
baryons are reconstructed with transverse momentum GeV and pseudorapidity . The measured branching ratio of
the and decays is , lower than the expectation from the
covariant quark model.Comment: 12 pages plus author list (28 pages total), 5 figures, 1 table,
