Localized structures of electromagnetic waves in hot electron-positronplasmas

The dynamics of relativistically strong electromagnetic (EM) wave propagation in hot electron-positron plasma is investigated. The possibility of finding localized stationary structures of EM waves is explored. It is shown that under certain conditions the EM wave forms a stable localized soliton-like structures where plasma is completely expelled from the region of EM field location.Comment: 14 pages, LaTeX, 1 figure can be obtained upon request through email to [email protected]

Nonlinear parametric instability in double-well lattices

A possibility of a nonlinear resonant instability of uniform oscillations in dynamical lattices with harmonic intersite coupling and onsite nonlinearity is predicted. Numerical simulations of a lattice with a double-well onsite anharmonic potential confirm the existence of the nonlinear instability with an anomalous value of the corresponding power index, 1.57, which is intermediate between the values 1 and 2 characterizing the linear and nonlinear (quadratic) instabilities. The anomalous power index may be a result of competition between the resonant quadratic instability and nonresonant linear instabilities. The observed instability triggers transition of the lattice into a chaotic dynamical state.Comment: A latex text file and three pdf files with figures. Physical Review E, in pres

Activation Energy in a Quantum Hall Ferromagnet and Non-Hartree-Fock Skyrmions

The energy of Skyrmions is calculated with the help of a technique based on the excitonic representation: the basic set of one-exciton states is used for the perturbation-theory formalism instead of the basic set of one-particle states. We use the approach, at which a skyrmion-type excitation (at zero Lande factor) is considered as a smooth non-uniform rotation in the 3D spin space. The result within the framework of an excitonically diagonalized part of the Coulomb Hamiltonian can be obtained by any ratio rC=(e2/ϵlB)/ωcr_{\tiny C}=(e^2/\epsilon {}l_B)/\hbar \omega_c [where e2/ϵlBe^2/\epsilon {}l_B is the typical Coulomb energy (lB{}l_B being the magnetic length); ωc\omega_c is the cyclotron frequency], and the Landau-level mixing is thereby taken into account. In parallel with this, the result is also found exactly, to second order in terms of the rCr_{\tiny C} (if supposing rCr_{\tiny C} to be small) with use of the total Hamiltonian. When extrapolated to the region rC1r_{\tiny C}\sim 1, our calculations show that the skyrmion gap becomes substantially reduced in comparison with the Hartree-Fock calculations. This fact brings the theory essentially closer to the available experimental data.Comment: 14 pages, 1 figure. to appear in Phys. Rev. B, Vol. 65 (Numbers ~ 19-22), 200

PHARMACOGNOSTICAL, PHYSICOCHEMICAL AND HPTLC EVALUATION OF TRIVRITTADI KWATHA: A POLYHERBAL FORMULATION

    Get PDF
Background: Trivrittadi kwatha is mentioned in Charaka samhita as a therapeutic formulation to treat Kushtha (Skin disorder). The skin diseases are considered in the umbrella of Kushtha. There is no definite line of treatment is given in the classics but the Seers have described Shwitra (Vitiligo) under the kushtha and line of treatment should be done like Kushtha. Vitiligo affects 1% of the population worldwide but management is till unsatisfactory. Trivrittadi kwatha contains Trivritta (Operaculina turpethum (Linn.), Danti (Boliospermum montanum Muell-Arg.) and Triphala which is compound of Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Bibhitaki (Terminalia belerica) and Amalaki (Emblica officinalis). This polyherbal formulation has enough potential to do Virechana (therapeutic purgation). Method: Trivrittadi kwatha powder was evaluated for their pharmacognostical and pharmaceutical analysis. Results: Microscopic characters were found of Trivritta, Danti, Haritaki, Bibhitaki and Amalaki. Results obtained in pharmaceutical parameters of Trivrittadi kwatha powder like loss on drying 8.2 % w/w, Ash value 6.268 %, Alcohol soluble extract 91.5 % w/w etc. are within limit mentioned by Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India. High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) profile of Trivrittadi kwatha powder showed similarities in number of spots. Conclusion: From the study, data developed can be espoused for laying down the standards for Trivrittadi kwatha

Intercalibration of the barrel electromagnetic calorimeter of the CMS experiment at start-up

Calibration of the relative response of the individual channels of the barrel electromagnetic calorimeter of the CMS detector was accomplished, before installation, with cosmic ray muons and test beams. One fourth of the calorimeter was exposed to a beam of high energy electrons and the relative calibration of the channels, the intercalibration, was found to be reproducible to a precision of about 0.3%. Additionally, data were collected with cosmic rays for the entire ECAL barrel during the commissioning phase. By comparing the intercalibration constants obtained with the electron beam data with those from the cosmic ray data, it is demonstrated that the latter provide an intercalibration precision of 1.5% over most of the barrel ECAL. The best intercalibration precision is expected to come from the analysis of events collected in situ during the LHC operation. Using data collected with both electrons and pion beams, several aspects of the intercalibration procedures based on electrons or neutral pions were investigated

Comprehensive lung injury pathology induced by mTOR inhibitors

Molecular Targets in Oncology[Abstract] Interstitial lung disease is a rare side effect of temsirolimus treatment in renal cancer patients. Pulmonary fibrosis is characterised by the accumulation of extracellular matrix collagen, fibroblast proliferation and migration, and loss of alveolar gas exchange units. Previous studies of pulmonary fibrosis have mainly focused on the fibro-proliferative process in the lungs. However, the molecular mechanism by which sirolimus promotes lung fibrosis remains elusive. Here, we propose an overall cascade hypothesis of interstitial lung diseases that represents a common, partly underlying synergism among them as well as the lung pathogenesis side effects of mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitors
