Magnetic moments of antidecuplet pentaquarks
We analyze the magnetic moment of the exotic pentaquarks of the flavor
antidecuplet in the constituent quark model for the case in which the ground
state is in an orbital L(p)=0(+) or a L(p)=1(-) state. We derive sum rules for
the magnetic moments. The magnetic moment of the Theta(1540) is found to be
0.38, 0.09 and 1.05 mu_N for J(p)=1/2(-), 1/2(+) and 3/2(+), respectively,

Today's View on Strangeness
There are several different experimental indications, such as the
pion-nucleon sigma term and polarized deep-inelastic scattering, which suggest
that the nucleon wave function contains a hidden s bar s component. This is
expected in chiral soliton models, which also predicted the existence of new
exotic baryons that may recently have been observed. Another hint of hidden
strangeness in the nucleon is provided by copious phi production in various N
bar N annihilation channels, which may be due to evasions of the
Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka rule. One way to probe the possible polarization of hidden s
bar s pairs in the nucleon may be via Lambda polarization in deep-inelastic

Acclimation to short-term low temperatures in two Eucalyptus globulus clones with contrasting drought resistance
We tested the hypothesis that Eucalyptus
globulus Labill. genotypes that are more resistant to dry
environments might also exhibit higher cold tolerances
than drought-sensitive plants. The effect of low temperatures
was evaluated in acclimated and unacclimated
ramets of a drought-resistant clone (CN5) and a
drought-sensitive clone (ST51) of E. globulus. We
studied the plants’ response via leaf gas exchanges, leaf
water and osmotic potentials, concentrations of soluble
sugars, several antioxidant enzymes and leaf electrolyte
leakage. Progressively lowering air temperatures (from
24/16 to 10/ 2 C, day/night) led to acclimation of both
clones. Acclimated ramets exhibited higher photosynthetic
rates, stomatal conductances and lower membrane
relative injuries when compared to unacclimated ramets.
Moreover, low temperatures led to significant increases
of soluble sugars and antioxidant enzymes activity
(glutathione reductase, ascorbate peroxidase and superoxide
dismutases) of both clones in comparison to plants
grown at control temperature (24/16 C). On the other
hand, none of the clones, either acclimated or not,
exhibited signs of photoinhibition under low temperatures
and moderate light. The main differences in the
responses to low temperatures between the two clones
resulted mainly from differences in carbon metabolism,
including a higher accumulation of soluble sugars in the
drought-resistant clone CN5 as well as a higher capacity
for osmotic regulation, as compared to the droughtsensitive
clone ST51. Although membrane injury data
suggested that both clones had the same inherent
freezing tolerance before and after cold acclimation,
the results also support the hypothesis that the droughtresistant
clone had a greater cold tolerance at intermediate
levels of acclimation than the drought-sensitive
clone. A higher capacity to acclimate in a short period
can allow a clone to maintain an undamaged leaf surface
area along sudden frost events, increasing growt
Role of surface roughness in hard x-ray emission from femtosecond laser produced copper plasmas
The hard x-ray emission in the energy range of 30-300 keV from copper plasmas
produced by 100 fs, 806 nm laser pulses at intensities in the range of
10 W cm is investigated. We demonstrate that surface
roughness of the targets overrides the role of polarization state in the
coupling of light to the plasma. We further show that surface roughness has a
significant role in enhancing the x-ray emission in the above mentioned energy

Search for the decay K+ to pi+ gamma gamma in the pi+ momentum region P>213 MeV/c
We have searched for the K+ to pi+ gamma gamma decay in the kinematic region
with pi+ momentum close to the end point. No events were observed, and the 90%
confidence-level upper limit on the partial branching ratio was obtained, B(K+
to pi+ gamma gamma, P>213 MeV/c) < 8.3 x 10-9 under the assumption of chiral
perturbation theory including next-to-leading order ``unitarity'' corrections.
The same data were used to determine an upper limit on the K+ to pi+ gamma
branching ratio of 2.3 x 10-9 at the 90% confidence level.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures; no change in the results, accepted for

Z^* Resonances: Phenomenology and Models
We explore the phenomenology of, and models for, the Z^* resonances, the
lowest of which is now well established, and called the Theta. We provide an
overview of three models which have been proposed to explain its existence
and/or its small width, and point out other relevant predictions, and potential
problems, for each. The relation to what is known about KN scattering,

Search for a strongly decaying neutral charmed pentaquark
We present a search for a charmed pentaquark decaying strongly to
. Finding no evidence for such a state, we set limits on the cross
section times branching ratio relative to and under particular

Global analysis of community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus exoproteins reveals molecules produced in vitro and during infection
Community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA) is a threat to human health worldwide. Although progress has been made, mechanisms of CA-MRSA pathogenesis are poorly understood and a comprehensive analysis of CA-MRSA exoproteins has not been conducted. To address that deficiency, we used proteomics to identify exoproteins made by MW2 (USA400) and LAC (USA300) during growth in vitro. Two hundred and fifty unique exoproteins were identified by 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis coupled with automated direct infusion-tandem mass spectrometry (ADI-MS/MS) analysis. Eleven known virulence-related exoproteins differed in abundance between the strains, including alpha-haemolysin (Hla), collagen adhesin (Cna), staphylokinase (Sak), coagulase (Coa), lipase (Lip), enterotoxin C3 (Sec3), enterotoxin Q (Seq), V8 protease (SspA) and cysteine protease (SspB). Mice infected with MW2 or LAC produced antibodies specific for known or putative virulence factors, such as autolysin (Atl), Cna, Ear, ferritin (Ftn), Lip, 1-phosphatidylinositol phosphodiesterase (Plc), Sak, Sec3 and SspB, indicating the exoproteins are made during infection in vivo. We used confocal microscopy to demonstrate aureolysin (Aur), Hla, SspA and SspB are produced following phagocytosis by human neutrophils, thereby linking exoprotein production in vitro with that during host–pathogen interaction. We conclude that the exoproteins identified herein likely account in part for the success of CA-MRSA as a human pathogen
Search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos in events with three leptons and missing transverse momentum in √s = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with three electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum is presented. The analysis is based on 4.7 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded with the ATLAS detector. Observations are consistent with Standard Model expectations in three signal regions that are either depleted or enriched in Z-boson decays. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in R-parity conserving phenomenological minimal supersymmetric models and in simplified models, significantly extending previous results
