Anyonic physical observables and spin phase transition

The quantization of charged matter system coupled to Chern-Simons gauge fields is analyzed in a covariant gauge fixing, and gauge invariant physical anyon operators satisfying fractional statistics are constructed in a symmetric phase, based on Dirac's recipe performed on QED. This method provides us a definite way of identifying physical spectrums free from gauge ambiguity and constructing physical anyon operators under a covariant gauge fixing. We then analyze the statistical spin phase transition in a symmetry-broken phase and show that the Higgs mechanism transmutes an anyon satisfying fractional statistics into a canonical boson, a spin 0 Higgs boson or a topologically massive photon.Comment: 14 pages, added references, a few improvement

Historia geográfica, natural y civil del Reino de Chile (1782) del jesuita expulso Felipe Gómez de Vidaurre: una obra injustamente desvalorizada por la historiografía chilena

This paper will attempt to present the Historia geográfica, natural y civil del Reino de Chile by the Chilean Jesuit expelled Felipe Gómez de Vidaurre, that despite being forgotten by the Chilean historiography it contains interesting descriptions of the inhabitants of Chile in the late eighteenth century. It also offers some proposals to improve aspects of Chilean society, which makes it a valuable text for understanding the period preceding the independence of Chile.

Search for lepton flavour violating decays of the Higgs boson to eτand eμin proton–proton collisions at √s=8TeV

    Get PDF
A direct search for lepton flavour violating decays of the Higgs boson (H) in the H →eτand H →eμchannels is described. The data sample used in the search was collected in proton–proton collisions at √s=8TeVwith the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7fb−1. No evidence is found for lepton flavour violating decays in either final state. Upper limits on the branching fractions, B(H →eτ) <0.69%and B(H →eμ) <0.035%, are set at the 95% confidence level. The constraint set on B(H →eτ)is an order of magnitude more stringent than the existing indirect limits. The limits are used to constrain the corresponding flavour violating Yukawa couplings, absent in the standard model

Lakeside View: Sociocultural Responses to Changing Water Levels of Lake Turkana, Kenya

Throughout the Holocene, Lake Turkana has been subject to drastic changes in lake levels and the subsistence strategies people employ to survive in this hot and arid region. In this paper, we reconstruct the position of the lake during the Holocene within a paleoclimatic context. Atmospheric forcing mechanisms are discussed in order to contextualize the broader landscape changes occurring in eastern Africa over the last 12,000 years. The Holocene is divided into five primary phases according to changes in the strand-plain evolution, paleoclimate, and human subsistence strategies practiced within the basin. Early Holocene fishing settlements occurred adjacent to high and relatively stable lake levels. A period of high-magnitude oscillations in lake levels ensued after 9,000 years BP and human settlements appear to have been located close to the margins of the lake. Aridification and a final regression in lake levels ensued after 5,000 years BP and human communities were generalized pastoralists-fishers-foragers. During the Late Holocene, lake levels may have dropped below their present position and subsistence strategies appear to have been flexible and occasionally specialized on animal pastoralism. Modern missionary and government outposts have encouraged the construction of permanent settlements in the region, which are heavily dependent on outside resources for their survival. Changes in the physical and cultural environments of the Lake Turkana region have been closely correlated, and understanding the relationship between the two variables remains a vital component of archaeological research
