    Two-gluon form factor of the nucleon and J/ψJ/\psi photoproduction

    We argue that the t-dependence of the two-gluon form factor of the nucleon should be given by Γ(t)=(1−t/m2g2)−2\Gamma(t)=(1-t/m_{2g}^2)^{-2} with m2g2≈1GeV2m_{2g}^2\approx 1 GeV^2. We demonstrate that this form provides a good description of the t-dependence of the cross section of the elastic photoproduction of J/ψJ/\psi-mesons between the threshold region of EÎł=11GeVE_{\gamma}=11 GeV (Cornell), EÎł=19GeVE_{\gamma}=19 GeV (SLAC) and EÎł=100GeVE_{\gamma}=100 GeV (FNAL) including the strong energy dependence of the t-slope. It is also well matched with the recent HERA data. The same assumption explains also the t-dependence of ϕ\phi-meson electroproduction near threshold at W=2.3GeV,Q2=1.0GeV2W=2.3 GeV, Q^2=1.0 GeV^2.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure

    Consistent treatment of spin-1 mesons in the light-front formalism

    We analyze the matrix element of the electroweak current between q \qb vector meson states in the framework of a covariant extension of the light-front formalism. The light-front matrix element of a one-body current is naturally associated with zero modes, which affect some of the form factors that are necessary to represent the Lorentz structure of the light-front integral. The angular condition contains some information on zero modes, i.e., only if the effect of zero modes is accounted for correctly, is it satisfied. With plausible assumptions we derive from the angular condition several consistency conditions which can be used quite generally to determine the zero mode contribution of form factors. The correctness of this method is tested by the phenomenological success of the derived form factors. We compare the predictions of our formalism with those of the standard light-front approach and with available data. As examples we discuss the magnetic moment of the ρ\rho, the coupling constant gD∗Dπg_{D^\ast D \pi}, and the coupling constants of the pseudoscalar density, gπg_\pi and gKg_K, which provide a phenomenological link between constituent and current quark masses.Comment: 36 pages, figure 1 is include

    A new approach is introduced to study QCD amplitudes at high energy and comparatively small momentum transfer. Novel cut diagrams, representing resummation of Feynman diagrams, are used to simplify calculation and to avoid delicate cancellations encountered in the usual approach.     Efficacy of menthol as an anesthetic for tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum, Characiformes: Characidae)

    Anesthetics are important in fish culture to reduce handling stress and mortality. The objective of this work is to investigate menthol as an anesthetic for tambaqui. In the first series of tests, fish were exposed to various concentrations of menthol to evaluate induction time and stress responses. The second series examined the effect of exposure period to menthol at 150 mg/L on recovery time. The third assessed the best dosage for juveniles in larger tambaqui. The best concentration for surgical anesthesia is 150 mg/L. At this concentration the induction time is short, but their recovery time is significantly longer than that for lower concentrations. For biometry procedures, the best concentration is 100 mg/L. At this concentration the induction time is prolonged, but the recovery time is within the desired period. Recovery time for fish exposed to 150 mg/L is equal for 10, 20 or 30 minutes of exposure. The results confirmed that menthol is an adequate anesthetic for tambaqui.Os anestĂ©sicos sĂŁo importantes na piscicultura para reduzir o estresse e a mortalidade no manejo. Este trabalho tem como objetivo determinar a eficĂĄcia do mentol para tambaqui durante o manejo. Na primeira sĂ©rie de testes, foi examinado o efeito da concentração de anestĂ©sico sobre indução Ă  anestesia e o estresse de tambaqui. Na segunda sĂ©rie de testes, foi avaliada a recuperação dos peixes apĂłs a exposição a uma concentração de 150 mg/L de mentol por diferentes tempos. Na terceira sĂ©rie, foi avaliada se a melhor concentração encontrada para juvenil (150 mg/L) tambĂ©m era adequada para peixes maiores. A melhor concentração para uma anestesia cirĂșrgica foi 150 mg/L, pois o tempo de indução Ă© rĂĄpido, porĂ©m a recuperação Ă© significativamente mais demorada do que para as menores concentraçÔes testadas. Para uma anestesia, com finalidade de biometria, a melhor concentração foi 100 mg/L. Nesta concentração o tempo de indução Ă  anestesia Ă© prolongado, porĂ©m o tempo de recuperação estĂĄ dentro da faixa considerada adequada. O tempo de recuperação do tambaqui quando exposto a 150 mg/L Ă© significativamente igual para 10, 20 e 30 minutos de anestesia. Os resultados obtidos mostram que o mentol Ă© um anestĂ©sico eficiente para o tambaqui

    Customer emotions in service failure and recovery encounters

    Emotions play a significant role in the workplace, and considerable attention has been given to the study of employee emotions. Customers also play a central function in organizations, but much less is known about customer emotions. This chapter reviews the growing literature on customer emotions in employee–customer interfaces with a focus on service failure and recovery encounters, where emotions are heightened. It highlights emerging themes and key findings, addresses the measurement, modeling, and management of customer emotions, and identifies future research streams. Attention is given to emotional contagion, relationships between affective and cognitive processes, customer anger, customer rage, and individual differences

    Health Impairments in Children and Adolescents After Hospitalization for Acute COVID-19 or MIS-C

    OBJECTIVES: To evaluate risk factors for postdischarge sequelae in children and adolescents hospitalized for acute coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) or multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). METHODS: Multicenter prospective cohort study conducted in 25 United States pediatric hospitals. Patients <21-years-old, hospitalized May 2020 to May 2021 for acute COVID-19 or MIS-C with follow-up 2 to 4 months after admission. We assessed readmissions, persistent symptoms or activity impairment, and new morbidities. Multivariable regression was used to calculate adjusted risk ratios (aRR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). RESULTS: Of 358 eligible patients, 2 to 4 month survey data were available for 119 of 155 (76.8%) with acute COVID-19 and 160 of 203 (78.8%) with MIS-C. Thirteen (11%) patients with acute COVID-19 and 12 (8%) with MIS-C had a readmission. Thirty-two (26.9%) patients with acute COVID-19 had persistent symptoms (22.7%) or activity impairment (14.3%) and 48 (30.0%) with MIS-C had persistent symptoms (20.0%) or activity impairment (21.3%). For patients with acute COVID-19, persistent symptoms (aRR, 1.29 [95% CI, 1.04-1.59]) and activity impairment (aRR, 1.37 [95% CI, 1.06-1.78]) were associated with more organ systems involved. Patients with MIS-C and pre-existing respiratory conditions more frequently had persistent symptoms (aRR, 3.09 [95% CI, 1.55-6.14]) and those with obesity more frequently had activity impairment (aRR, 2.52 [95% CI, 1.35-4.69]). New morbidities were infrequent (9% COVID-19, 1% MIS-C). CONCLUSIONS: Over 1 in 4 children hospitalized with acute COVID-19 or MIS-C experienced persistent symptoms or activity impairment for at least 2 months. Patients with MIS-C and respiratory conditions or obesity are at higher risk of prolonged recovery

    The performance of the jet trigger for the ATLAS detector during 2011 data taking

    The performance of the jet trigger for the ATLAS detector at the LHC during the 2011 data taking period is described. During 2011 the LHC provided proton–proton collisions with a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV and heavy ion collisions with a 2.76 TeV per nucleon–nucleon collision energy. The ATLAS trigger is a three level system designed to reduce the rate of events from the 40 MHz nominal maximum bunch crossing rate to the approximate 400 Hz which can be written to offline storage. The ATLAS jet trigger is the primary means for the online selection of events containing jets. Events are accepted by the trigger if they contain one or more jets above some transverse energy threshold. During 2011 data taking the jet trigger was fully efficient for jets with transverse energy above 25 GeV for triggers seeded randomly at Level 1. For triggers which require a jet to be identified at each of the three trigger levels, full efficiency is reached for offline jets with transverse energy above 60 GeV. Jets reconstructed in the final trigger level and corresponding to offline jets with transverse energy greater than 60 GeV, are reconstructed with a resolution in transverse energy with respect to offline jets, of better than 4 % in the central region and better than 2.5 % in the forward direction

    Measurement of the cross section for isolated-photon plus jet production in pp collisions at √s=13 TeV using the ATLAS detector

    The dynamics of isolated-photon production in association with a jet in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV are studied with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using a dataset with an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb−1. Photons are required to have transverse energies above 125 GeV. Jets are identified using the anti- algorithm with radius parameter and required to have transverse momenta above 100 GeV. Measurements of isolated-photon plus jet cross sections are presented as functions of the leading-photon transverse energy, the leading-jet transverse momentum, the azimuthal angular separation between the photon and the jet, the photon–jet invariant mass and the scattering angle in the photon–jet centre-of-mass system. Tree-level plus parton-shower predictions from Sherpa and Pythia as well as next-to-leading-order QCD predictions from Jetphox and Sherpa are compared to the measurements

    Measurement of the View the tt production cross-section using eÎŒ events with b-tagged jets in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    This paper describes a measurement of the inclusive top quark pair production cross-section (σttÂŻ) with a data sample of 3.2 fb−1 of proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 13 TeV, collected in 2015 by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. This measurement uses events with an opposite-charge electron–muon pair in the final state. Jets containing b-quarks are tagged using an algorithm based on track impact parameters and reconstructed secondary vertices. The numbers of events with exactly one and exactly two b-tagged jets are counted and used to determine simultaneously σttÂŻ and the efficiency to reconstruct and b-tag a jet from a top quark decay, thereby minimising the associated systematic uncertainties. The cross-section is measured to be: σttÂŻ = 818 ± 8 (stat) ± 27 (syst) ± 19 (lumi) ± 12 (beam) pb, where the four uncertainties arise from data statistics, experimental and theoretical systematic effects, the integrated luminosity and the LHC beam energy, giving a total relative uncertainty of 4.4%. The result is consistent with theoretical QCD calculations at next-to-next-to-leading order. A fiducial measurement corresponding to the experimental acceptance of the leptons is also presented
