On the self-consistent spin-wave theory of layered Heisenberg magnets
The versions of the self-consistent spin-wave theories (SSWT) of
two-dimensional (2D) Heisenberg ferro- and antiferromagnets with a weak
interlayer coupling and/or magnetic anisotropy, that are based on the
non-linear Dyson-Maleev, Schwinger, and combined boson-pseudofermion
representations, are analyzed. Analytical results for the temperature
dependences of (sublattice) magnetization and short-range order parameter, and
the critical points are obtained. The influence of external magnetic field is
considered. Fluctuation corrections to SSWT are calculated within a
random-phase approximation which takes into account correctly leading and
next-leading logarithmic singularities. These corrections are demonstrated to
improve radically the agreement with experimental data on layered perovskites
and other systems. Thus an account of these fluctuations provides a
quantitative theory of layered magnets.Comment: 46 pages, RevTeX, 7 figure
Correlated N-boson systems for arbitrary scattering length
We investigate systems of identical bosons with the focus on two-body
correlations and attractive finite-range potentials. We use a hyperspherical
adiabatic method and apply a Faddeev type of decomposition of the wave
function. We discuss the structure of a condensate as function of particle
number and scattering length. We establish universal scaling relations for the
critical effective radial potentials for distances where the average distance
between particle pairs is larger than the interaction range. The correlations
in the wave function restore the large distance mean-field behaviour with the
correct two-body interaction. We discuss various processes limiting the
stability of condensates. With correlations we confirm that macroscopic
tunneling dominates when the trap length is about half of the particle number
times the scattering length.Comment: 15 pages (RevTeX4), 11 figures (LaTeX), submitted to Phys. Rev. A.

Boro-nitriding coating on pure iron by powder-pack boriding and nitriding processes
To alleviate spallation and crack difficulties exhibited by a borided metallic surface when it is subjected to a normal, heavy and sliding load under dry conditions, a boron nitride coating was produced on pure iron in two stages: boriding the iron surface at 950 °C for 6 h and then nitriding the pre-borided iron at 550 °C for 6 h. The powder-pack technique was used in both stages. XRD measurements confirmed that the grown layers were nitrides and duplex borides. The produced diffusion of the layers reached 240 ”m in depth as measured by SEM images. The measured microhardness across the case favoured the interphase cohesion between the iron nitrides and iron borides layers. Consequently, the multicomponent coating exhibited superior wear resistance to an applied normal load under dry sliding contact conditions in comparison to borided iron
Integrated motor drives: state of the art and future trends
With increased need for high power density, high efficiency and high temperature capabilities in Aerospace and Automotive applications, Integrated Motor Drives (IMD) offers a potential solution. However, close physical integration of the converter and the machine may also lead to an increase in components temperature. This requires careful mechanical, structural and thermal analysis; and design of the IMD system.
This paper reviews existing IMD technologies and their thermal effects on the IMD system. The effects of the power electronics (PE) position on the IMD system and its respective thermal management concepts are also investigated. The challenges faced in designing and manufacturing of an IMD along with the mechanical and structural impacts of close physical integration is also discussed and potential solutions are provided. Potential converter topologies for an IMD like the Matrix converter, 2-level Bridge, 3-level NPC and Multiphase full bridge converters are also reviewed. Wide band gap devices like SiC and GaN and their packaging in power modules for IMDs are also discussed. Power modules components and packaging technologies are also presented

Age at first birth in women is genetically associated with increased risk of schizophrenia
Prof. Paunio on PGC:n jÀsenPrevious studies have shown an increased risk for mental health problems in children born to both younger and older parents compared to children of average-aged parents. We previously used a novel design to reveal a latent mechanism of genetic association between schizophrenia and age at first birth in women (AFB). Here, we use independent data from the UK Biobank (N = 38,892) to replicate the finding of an association between predicted genetic risk of schizophrenia and AFB in women, and to estimate the genetic correlation between schizophrenia and AFB in women stratified into younger and older groups. We find evidence for an association between predicted genetic risk of schizophrenia and AFB in women (P-value = 1.12E-05), and we show genetic heterogeneity between younger and older AFB groups (P-value = 3.45E-03). The genetic correlation between schizophrenia and AFB in the younger AFB group is -0.16 (SE = 0.04) while that between schizophrenia and AFB in the older AFB group is 0.14 (SE = 0.08). Our results suggest that early, and perhaps also late, age at first birth in women is associated with increased genetic risk for schizophrenia in the UK Biobank sample. These findings contribute new insights into factors contributing to the complex bio-social risk architecture underpinning the association between parental age and offspring mental health.Peer reviewe
Measurement of the cross section for isolated-photon plus jet production in pp collisions at âs=13 TeV using the ATLAS detector
The dynamics of isolated-photon production in association with a jet in protonâproton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV are studied with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using a dataset with an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fbâ1. Photons are required to have transverse energies above 125 GeV. Jets are identified using the anti- algorithm with radius parameter and required to have transverse momenta above 100 GeV. Measurements of isolated-photon plus jet cross sections are presented as functions of the leading-photon transverse energy, the leading-jet transverse momentum, the azimuthal angular separation between the photon and the jet, the photonâjet invariant mass and the scattering angle in the photonâjet centre-of-mass system. Tree-level plus parton-shower predictions from Sherpa and Pythia as well as next-to-leading-order QCD predictions from Jetphox and Sherpa are compared to the measurements
