El Trabajo Social en la industrialización sustitutiva venezolana: en el caso de Empresas Mendoza

Este artículo analiza las prácticas de bienestar laboral en Empresas Mendoza (1926-1990) —el grupo industrial más importante en la etapa de industrialización sustitutiva venezolana— y la contribución del Trabajo Social a estructurar y profesionalizar el más avanzado sistema asistencial empresarial desde mediados del siglo XX. La autonomía y dinámica alcanzada por las exponentes de esta profesión, sumadas a la puesta en práctica de acciones determinadas por los valores paternalistas y rentísticos de los directivos y las directivas de esta empresa, permitió conformar en el campo empresarial un espacio idóneo para su actividad e hizo posible que se emprendiera un interesante proceso de autocrítica y replanteamiento del Trabajo Social en Venezuela durante los años setenta

Effects of a cognitive-behavioral intervention and physical activity on medical and psychological variables in patients treated with hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

Objetivo: Evaluar el efecto de una intervención cognitivo conductual y un programa de actividad física sobre variables psicológicas y médicas en pacientes sometidos a trasplante de células progenitoras hematopoyéticas (TCPH).Método: Diseño N=1 con grupo control histórico, participaron 14 adultos con quienes se implementó psicoeduación y relajación progresiva muscular pasiva previo a la hospitalización y se realizó un programa de actividad física durante la estancia hospitalaria. Se midieron variables psicológicas mediante la Escala Hospitalaria de Ansiedad y Depresión (HADS) al momento de la evaluación, día de hospitalización, día de alta y primer consulta de seguimiento y con el Termómetro de Estrés (DT) en la evaluación y todos los días durante la hospitalización. Por otro lado se creó un grupo control histórico con 21 pacientes tratados en la misma unidad, con quienes se compararon el número de interconsultas a psiquiatría, el requerimiento farmacológico y los días de estancia hospitalaria.Resultados: En los sujetos que se beneficiaron de la intervención, se observó que ansiedad, depresión y estrés, tuvieron variaciones que se mantuvieron en rangos normales. Al comparar entre grupos se observó que en el grupo de intervención fue menor el número de pacientes que requirieron interconsultas a psiquiatría, menor número de interconsultas y una estancia hospitalaria más corta en comparación con grupo control.Conclusiones: La intervención permitió mantener la estabilidad psicológica de los pacientes, así como menor comorbilidad psiquiátrica y farmacológica que facilita el seguimiento y al reducir la estancia hospitalaria se reducen costos y alteraciones psicosociales en el paciente.Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effect of a cognitive behavioral intervention and a physical activity program on psychological and medical variables in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).Method: The design used was N = 1 with historical control group, participants were 14 adults. The intervention consisted in psicoeducation and passive progressive muscle relaxation training prior to hospitalization, and a program of physical activity during the hospital stay. Psychological variables were measured trough the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) in four different moments: baseline assessment, hospital admission, hospital discharge, and first follow-up consultation. The Distress Thermometer (DT) was also used in the baseline assessment and every day during hospitalization. On the other hand, the historical control group consisted of 21 patients treated in the same unit. We compared: number of interconsultations to psychiatry, drug requirement and number of days in hospitalization.Results: The differences observed were: in the intervention group, the number of patients requiring a psychiatric consultation was lower, the patients who were referred to psychiatry required less interconsultations, and hospital stay was shorter compared with control group.Conclusions: It was concluded that the intervention allowed maintain psychological stability of patients and minor psychiatric and pharmacological comorbidity facilitates monitoring and reduce hospitalization costs and reduced psychosocial distress in the patient

Fragmentation, Space and Rentism in the Neoliberalization of Health: the case of Bogotá

El objetivo del presente artículo es analizar las lógicas de inversión y las modalidades de reconfiguración del sector salud en Bogotá. Las reformas neoliberales de los años 90, profundizadas por reglamentaciones especí ficas en la década de los 2000, han transformado un sistema que nunca reconoció la atención universal como derecho ciudadano. A partir de entrevistas a diversos actores del sistema de salud, revisión bibliográfica, de prensa y de informes corporativos, evidenciamos cómo hoy conviven muy heterogéneas estructuras, desde ruinosos hospitales públicos, entidades rentistas que se apropian de recursos oficiales, y avanzadas clínicas proyectándose a la conformación de clústeres y turismo de salud. Mostramos cómo la coexistencia de varios modelos de negocio conlleva una problemática diferenciación de ámbitos de manejo laboral y modalidades de producción de ciudad

Un acercamiento al cálculo a través de la cinemática del cotidiano usando GeoGebra

La construcción de conceptos matemáticos a partir del uso de diferentes representaciones ha cobrado un gran impulso como consecuencia del desarrollo de herramientas digitales; la importancia del uso de múltiples representaciones estriba en que cada representación de un objeto matemático solo muestra una parte del mismo. En este sentido, el uso del software de acceso libre GeoGebra, que posee elementos de geometría dinámica, capacidades de cálculo simbólico, y el uso simultáneo de los diferentes sistemas de representación, resulta relevante para el aprendizaje del cálculo. En este taller nuestro objetivo es mostrar cómo crear y cómo usar escenarios para el desarrollo de situaciones de aprendizaje basadas en la cinemática a través de GeoGebra, situaciones que corresponden al cotidiano de los estudiantes a fin de evitar el fenómeno de la exclusión social del conocimiento matemático

Accurate reconstruction of insertion-deletion histories by statistical phylogenetics

The Multiple Sequence Alignment (MSA) is a computational abstraction that represents a partial summary either of indel history, or of structural similarity. Taking the former view (indel history), it is possible to use formal automata theory to generalize the phylogenetic likelihood framework for finite substitution models (Dayhoff's probability matrices and Felsenstein's pruning algorithm) to arbitrary-length sequences. In this paper, we report results of a simulation-based benchmark of several methods for reconstruction of indel history. The methods tested include a relatively new algorithm for statistical marginalization of MSAs that sums over a stochastically-sampled ensemble of the most probable evolutionary histories. For mammalian evolutionary parameters on several different trees, the single most likely history sampled by our algorithm appears less biased than histories reconstructed by other MSA methods. The algorithm can also be used for alignment-free inference, where the MSA is explicitly summed out of the analysis. Opsin evolution in the Ambulacraria

Opsins - G-protein coupled receptors involved in photoreception - have been extensively studied in the animal kingdom. The present work provides new insights into opsin-based photoreception and photoreceptor cell evolution with a first analysis of opsin sequence data for a major deuterostome clade, the Ambulacraria. Systematic data analysis, including for the first time hemichordate opsin sequences and an expanded echinoderm dataset, led to a robust opsin phylogeny for this cornerstone superphylum. Multiple genomic and transcriptomic resources were surveyed to cover each class of Hemichordata and Echinodermata. In total, 119 ambulacrarian opsin sequences were found, 22 new sequences in hemichordates and 97 in echinoderms (including 67 new sequences). We framed the ambulacrarian opsin repertoire within eumetazoan diversity by including selected reference opsins from non-ambulacrarians. Our findings corroborate the presence of all major ancestral bilaterian opsin groups in Ambulacraria. Furthermore, we identified two opsin groups specific to echinoderms. In conclusion, a molecular phylogenetic framework for investigating light-perception and photobiological behaviors in marine deuterostomes has been obtained

Though horizontal gene transfer (HGT) is widespread, genes and taxa experience biased rates of transferability. Curiously, independent transmission of homologous DNA to archaea, bacteria, eukaryotes, and viruses is extremely rare and often defies ecological and functional explanations. Here, we demonstrate that a bacterial lysozyme family integrated independently in all domains of life across diverse environments, generating the only glycosyl hydrolase 25 muramidases in plants and archaea. During coculture of a hydrothermal vent archaeon with a bacterial competitor, muramidase transcription is upregulated. Moreover, recombinant lysozyme exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial action in a dose-dependent manner. Similar to bacterial transfer of antibiotic resistance genes, transfer of a potent antibacterial gene across the universal tree seemingly bestows a niche-transcending adaptation that trumps the barriers against parallel HGT to all domains. The discoveries also comprise the first characterization of an antibacterial gene in archaea and support the pursuit of antibiotics in this underexplored group

Search for chargino-neutralino production with mass splittings near the electroweak scale in three-lepton final states in √s=13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

A search for supersymmetry through the pair production of electroweakinos with mass splittings near the electroweak scale and decaying via on-shell W and Z bosons is presented for a three-lepton final state. The analyzed proton-proton collision data taken at a center-of-mass energy of √s=13  TeV were collected between 2015 and 2018 by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139  fb−1. A search, emulating the recursive jigsaw reconstruction technique with easily reproducible laboratory-frame variables, is performed. The two excesses observed in the 2015–2016 data recursive jigsaw analysis in the low-mass three-lepton phase space are reproduced. Results with the full data set are in agreement with the Standard Model expectations. They are interpreted to set exclusion limits at the 95% confidence level on simplified models of chargino-neutralino pair production for masses up to 345 GeV

Valores de referencia de las hormonas tiroideas y TSH en individuos adultos de Maracaibo, Venezuela

Introducción: A nivel mundial, nacional o regional no existe un consenso ampliamente aceptado para los valores de referencia de hormonas tiroideas. Por ello, el objetivo de este estudio fue determinar los valores de referencia de TSH, FT3 libre y FT4 libre en individuos adultos del Municipio Maracaibo, Estado Zulia. Materiales y Métodos: Se realizó historia clínica completa y se determinó la concentración plasmática de TSH, T3L, T4L y anticuerpos anti-tiroideos a 425 individuos seleccionados al azar del Estudio de Prevalencia de Síndrome Metabólico en la ciudad de Maracaibo, un estudio descriptivo, transversal, con muestreo aleatorio multietápico que cuenta con una muestra de 2.230 individuos mayores de 18 años de ambos sexos. Para obtener la población de referencia (n=266) y establecer los intervalos de referencia se excluyeron individuos con antecedentes personales y familiares de enfermedad tiroidea, anticuerpos antitiroideos positivos (anti-tiroglobulina y anti-peroxidasa tiroidea), antecedentes personales de enfermedades cardiovasculares o autoinmunes, diabetes mellitus y uso de medicamentos tales como betabloqueantes, esteroides, anticonceptivos orales, amiodarona y levotiroxina. Resultados: Los valores de referencia de TSH, T3L y T4L  fueron establecidos mediante los percentiles 2,5 y 97,5 para establecer el límite inferior y superior en la población de referencia. De esta manera se obtuvieron los siguientes resultados TSH 0,70-5,52 mUI/L, T3L 1,80-4,40 pg/mL, T4L 0,80-1,80 ng/dL. Conclusiones: Los valores de referencia obtenidos en nuestra población difieren a los reportados en otros países, siendo necesario determinar valores de referencia en cada población con la finalidad de diagnosticar de forma adecuada las patologías relacionadas con hipo e hiperfunción tiroidea.Introduction: Currently there is no consensus regarding reference values for thyroid hormone profile. The purpose of this study was to determine the references values of TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 in adults from the Maracaibo Municipality, Zulia State. Materials and Methods: the Maracaibo city Metabolic Syndrome Prevalence Study is a cross-sectional study which enrolled 2.230 individuals of both sexes over 18 years of age, out of which 425 were selected due to medical history and availability of thyroid function quantification. The reference population subsample was obtained (n=266) by excluding those with personal and family history of thyroid disease, positive anti-thyroid antibodies, cardiovascular or autoimmune diseases, diabetes mellitus and medication usage. Results: the references values for TSH, FT3 and FT4 are between 2.5th and 97.5th to establish an upper and lower limit respectively: TSH 0.70-5.52 mIU/L, FT3 1.80-4.40 pg/ mL, FT4 0.80-1.80 ng/dL. Conclusions: the reference values obtained for our population differ from previous reports from other countries, strengthening the notion that each populace needs their own threshold values, facilitating a proper and efficient diagnosis tool to detect thyroid abnormalities&nbsp
