Design of the Test Section for the Experimental Validation of Antipermeation and Corrosion Barriers for WCLL BB
Tritium permeation into the Primary Heat Transfer System (PHTS) of DEMO and ITER reactors is one of the challenging issues to be solved in order to demonstrate the feasibility of nuclear fusion power plants construction. Several technologies were investigated as antipermeation and corrosion barriers to reduce the tritium permeation flux from the breeder into the PHTS. Within this frame, alumina coating manufactured by Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) and Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) are two of the main candidates for the Water Cooled Lithium Lead (WCLL) Breeder Blanket (BB). In order to validate the performance of the coatings on relevant WCLL BB geometries, a mock-up was designed and will be characterized in an experimental facility operating with flowing lithium-lead, called TRIEX-II. The present work aims to illustrate the preliminary engineering design of a WCLL BB mock-up in order to deeply investigate permeation of hydrogen isotopes through PHTS water pipes. The permeation tests are planned in the temperature range between 330 and 500 °C, with hydrogen and deuterium partial pressure in the range of 1–1000 Pa. The hydrogen isotopes transport analysis carried out for the design and integration of the mock-up in TRIEX-II facility is also shown
Intermittent Claudication: The Importance of Non-Invasive Treatment in the Femoro-Popliteal Tract
The prevalence of intermittent claudication is around 4.5% in general population aged between 55 to 74 years [1]. Even if this condition has a profound and negative impact on patients' quality of life [2,3], because of a sense of limitation of mobility and the fear of the progression of the disease and limb loss, patient should be reassured on the relatively benign prognosis of the pathology in case of intermittent claudication. Leng et al. [4] reported a remission of symptoms in more than 60% of the patients examined after a period of 5 years. A progression of the disease in only 25%; deterioration is more likely to appear on the first year after diagnosis (7%-9%) compared with 2% to 3% per year thereafter [5] and can be related to poor adherence to treatments and exercise programs
Transcatheter embolization with Squid, combined with other embolic agents or alone, in different abdominal diseases: a single-center experience in 30 patients
BACKGROUND: Squid, as Onyx, is an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH)-based liquid embolic agent developed for neuroradiologic interventions with poor application in abdominal district. Our aim was to evaluate safety, complications, and efficacy of transcatheter embolization using the two available formulations Squid-18 and 12, in 30 patients affected by different abdominal diseases.RESULTS: Transcatheter embolization with Squid, combined with other embolic agents, as poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) particles, coils and amplatzer plugs, or alone (type 2 endoleak), was performed in 30 patients, as follows: 10 portal vein embolizations (PVEs), 6 arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), 5 visceral artery aneurysms (VAAs), 4 type 2 endoleaks, 3 preoperative embolizations, 1 acute arterial bleeding, 1 female varicocele. Squid was always administered using dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) compatible microcatheters. Technical success, 30-day clinical success and complications were assessed. Technical success was 90%. 3 patients (2 AVMs, 1 VAA) required re-intervention successfully performed in all cases. Major complications, cases of microcatheter entrapment and DMSO-related poor pain control were not recorded. 30-day clinical success was 93.3%: in 2 patients submitted to PVE a sufficient future liver remnant (FLR) hypertrophy was not achieved.CONCLUSION: Squid was successfully used with low complication rate in many abdominal diseases showing a valid embolic action either combined with other embolic agents or alone in type 2 endoleak. The availability of different formulations (Squid-18 and Squid-12) variable for viscosity makes Squid preferable to Onyx as EVOH-based liquid embolic agent, even though comparable studies in different abdominal districts with a larger cohort of patients will be necessary
Exosomes from astrocyte processes: Signaling to neurons
open13It is widely recognized that extracellular vesicles subserve non-classical signal transmission in the central nervous system. Here we assess if the astrocyte processes, that are recognized to play crucial roles in intercellular communication at the synapses and in neuron-astrocyte networks, could convey messages through extracellular vesicles. Our findings indicate, for the first time that freshly isolated astrocyte processes prepared from adult rat cerebral cortex, can indeed participate to signal transmission in central nervous system by releasing exosomes that by volume transmission might target near or longdistance sites. It is noteworthy that the exosomes released from the astrocyte processes proved ability to selectively target neurons. The astrocyte-derived exosomes were proven positive for neuroglobin, a protein functioning as neuroprotectant against cell insult; the possibility that exosomes might transfer neuroglobin to neurons would add a mechanism to the potential astrocytic neuroprotectant activity. Notably, the exosomes released from the processes of astrocytes maintained markers, which prove their parental astrocytic origin. MONIKULTTUURINEN KASVATUSKUMPPANUUS VARHAISKASVATUKSESSA : Monikulttuuristen perheiden vanhempien näkemyksiä
Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on kuvailla monikulttuuristen perheiden vanhempien kokemuksia ja toiveita kasvatuskumppanuudesta varhaiskasvatuksessa. Opinnäytetyö on kvalitatiivinen ja se on toteutettu teemahaastatteluiden avulla. Haastattelut on tehty yksilöhaastatteluina. Opinnäytetyön toimeksiantajana toimi oululainen päiväkoti.
Teoreettinen viitekehys opinnäytetyössä pohjautuu vahvasti kasvatuskumppanuuden periaatteisiin, joita ovat kuuleminen, kunnioitus, luottamus ja dialogi. Lisäksi opinnäytetyössä on teoriaa kulttuurista ja monikulttuurisuudesta.
Haastattelurunko sisälsi lähinnä avoimia kysymyksiä, jotka pohjautuivat tietoperustaan. Haastattelut on analysoitu teemoittelun avulla. Teemat olivat samat kuin tietoperustassa. Opinnäytetyön pääteemoja ovat kasvatuskumppanuus ja monikulttuurisuus, jotka sisältävät vielä alateemoja.
Tuloksissa nousee esiin pääosin positiiviset kokemukset kasvatuskumppanuudesta varhaiskasvatuksessa. Kasvatuskumppanuus koetaan tärkeänä ja kasvatusvastuuta jaetaan mielellään. Kulttuurieroja ei arjessa huomata juurikaan, mutta perheen kulttuuritausta toivotaan huomioitavan hienovaraisesti, liikaa korostamatta.
Johtopäätöksenä voidaan sanoa, että varhaiskasvatukseen ja kasvatuskumppanuuden toteutumiseen ollaan tyytyväisiä.The purpose of this thesis is to describe experiences and wishes of parents of multicultural families about educational partnership in early childhood education. This thesis is qualitative and the material for it was collected with individual theme interviews. The thesis was commissioned by a certain kindergarten from Oulu.
The theoretical frame of this thesis includes principles of educational partnership such as hearing, respect, trust and dialog. There is also theory of culture and multiculturalism in this thesis.
Open questions of the interview were based on the theoretical frame. The interviews were analyzed by thematic analyzing. Themes were same as in theoretical frame. The main themes of this thesis are educational partnership and multiculturalism which includes subthemes.
The results of our thesis show positive experiences in educational partnership and early childhood education. The parents feel the importance of educational partnership and responsibility of raising a child is shared gladly. The parents do not feel cultural differences in everyday life, but there is a wish for sensitive consideration of culture which does not overemphasize the culture.
In summary it can be said, that the parents are satisfied with educational partnership and early childhood education
Time, intersubjectivity, and musical relationship in Alfred Schutz
In questo lavoro, affronto alcuni aspetti della relazione tra tempo e intersoggettività in Alfred Schutz . Presento una sintesi dell’architettura metodologica del sociologo austriaco, delineando la specificità della relazione tra tempo e coscienza. Prendo in esame la trattazione dell’esperienza musicale come esempio di declinazione peculiare di una serie di dinamiche temporali connesse alla costituzione intersoggettiva dei significati. Infine, espongo alcune tesi di autori che si sono occupati della relazione tra tempo, intersoggettività e musica in Schutz.
La relazione musicale è un esempio di contesto dotato di senso, non oggetto di concettualizzazione, che esemplifica la relazione tra senso soggettivo ed esperienza dell’altro. La teoria dell’appresentazione di Schutz è il centro del processo di costituzione dei significati della prensione dell’altro. L’emersione dei significati è legata alle dinamiche dei poli passivi e attivi della coscienza e alla costituzione, nella we-relation, di una dimensione radicalmente intersoggettiva nella quale si supera la distinzione cartesiana tra interno ed esterno.Time, intersubjectivity, and musical relationship in Alfred Schutz

In this work I tackle certain aspects of the relationship between time and intersubjectivity in Alfred
Schutz. I present a summary of the methodological architecture of the Austrian sociologist, outlining
the specificity of the relationship between time and consciousness. I discuss the treatment of the musical
experience as an example of the peculiar declination of a series of temporal dynamics connected to the
intersubjective creation of meanings. Finally, I set out some thoughts related to the debate on the relationship
between time, intersubjectivity and music in Schutz.
The musical relationship is a context endowed with meaning, not the object of conceptualization, that
allows us to identify in a paradigmatic way the relationship between the subjective sense and experience
of the other. The theory of appresentation of Schutz is the center of the process of constitution of meaning
of the understanding of the other. The emergence of meaning is related to the dynamics of the passive and
active poles of the consciousness and the constitution, in the we-relation, of a radically intersubjective
dimension that exceeds the Cartesian distinction between inside and outside
In Vitro Control of Post-Harvest Fruit Rot Fungi by Some Plant Essential Oil Components
Eight substances that are main components of the essential oils from three Mediterranean aromatic plants (Verbena officinalis, Thymus vulgaris and Origanum vulgare), previously found active against some phytopathogenic Fungi and Stramenopila, have been tested in vitro against five etiological agents of post-harvest fruit decay, Botrytis cinerea, Penicillium italicum, P. expansum, Phytophthora citrophthora and Rhizopus stolonifer. The tested compounds were β-fellandrene, β-pinene, camphene, carvacrol, citral, o-cymene, γ-terpinene and thymol. Citral exhibited a fungicidal action against P. citrophthora; carvacrol and thymol showed a fungistatic activity against P. citrophthora and R. stolonifer. Citral and carvacrol at 250 ppm, and thymol at 150 and 250 ppm stopped the growth of B. cinerea. Moreover, thymol showed fungistatic and fungicidal action against P. italicum. Finally, the mycelium growth of P. expansum was inhibited in the presence of 250 ppm of thymol and carvacrol. These results represent an important step toward the goal to use some essential oils or their components as natural preservatives for fruits and foodstuffs, due to their safety for consumer healthy and positive effect on shelf life extension of agricultural fresh products
How to integrate surgery and targeted therapy with biologics for the treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa: Delphi consensus statements from an Italian expert panel
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by recurrent and painful nodules and abscesses in intertriginous skin areas, which can progress to sinus tract formation, tissue destruction, and scarring. HS is highly debilitating and severely impairs the psychological well-being and quality of life of patients. The therapeutic approach to HS is based on medical therapy and surgery. First-line medical therapy includes topical antibiotics, systemic antibiotics, and biologics. Main surgical procedures include deroofing, local excision, and wide local excision. Despite the availability of multiple therapeutic options, the rates of disease recurrence and progression continue to be high. In recent years, the possibility of combining biologic therapy and surgery has raised considerable interest. In a clinical trial, the perioperative use of adalimumab has been associated with greater response rates and improved inflammatory load and pain, with no increased risk of postoperative infectious complications. However, several practical aspects of combined biologic therapy and surgery are poorly defined. In June 2022, nine Italian HS experts convened to address issues related to the integration of biologic therapy and surgery in clinical practice. To this purpose, the experts identified ten areas of interest based on published evidence and personal experience: 1) patient profiling (diagnostic criteria, disease severity classification, assessment of response to treatment, patient-reported outcomes, comorbidities); 2) tailoring surgery to HS characteristics; 3) wide local excision; 4) pre-surgery biologic treatment; 5) concomitant biologic and surgical treatments; 6) pre- and post-surgery management; 7) antibiotic systemic therapy; 8) biologic therapy after radical surgery; 9) management of adverse events to biologics; 10) management of postoperative infectious complications. Consensus between experts was reached using the Estimate-Talk-Estimate method (Delphi Method). The statements were subsequently presented to a panel of 27 HS experts from across Italy, and their agreement was assessed using the UCLA Appropriateness Method. Comparative effectiveness of tildrakizumab 200 mg versus tildrakizumab 100 mg in psoriatic patients with high disease burden or above 90 kg of body weight: a 16-week multicenter retrospective study - IL PSO (Italian landscape psoriasis)
Purpose: Tildrakizumab is a selective inhibitor of IL-23 approved for the treatment of moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in two dosages. We conducted a 16-week multicenter retrospective study to compare the effectiveness and safety of tildrakizumab 200 mg versus tildrakizumab 100 mg in patients with a high disease burden or high body weight. Materials and methods: Our retrospective study included 134 patients treated with tildrakizumab 200 mg and 364 patients treated with tildrakizumab 100 mg from 28 Italian Dermatology Units affected by moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. The patients had a body weight above 90 kg or a high disease burden (Psoriasis Area and Severity Index [PASI] ≥ 16 or the involvement of difficult-to-treat areas). We evaluated the effectiveness of tildrakizumab at the week-16 visit in terms of PASI90, PASI100 and absolute PASI ≤ 2. Results: After 16 weeks of treatment with tildrakizumab 200 mg, PASI90 was reached by 57.5% of patients and PASI100 by 39.6% of patients. At the same time point, 34.3% and 24.2% of patients treated with tildrakizumab 100 mg achieved PASI90 and PASI100, respectively. Conclusions: Our data suggest that tildrakizumab 200 mg has better effectiveness than tildrakizumab 100 mg in patients with a body weight ≥ 90 kg and a high disease burden
Search for dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks in √s = 13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for weakly interacting massive particle dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks is presented. Final states containing third-generation quarks and miss- ing transverse momentum are considered. The analysis uses 36.1 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at √s = 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016. No significant excess of events above the estimated backgrounds is observed. The results are in- terpreted in the framework of simplified models of spin-0 dark-matter mediators. For colour- neutral spin-0 mediators produced in association with top quarks and decaying into a pair of dark-matter particles, mediator masses below 50 GeV are excluded assuming a dark-matter candidate mass of 1 GeV and unitary couplings. For scalar and pseudoscalar mediators produced in association with bottom quarks, the search sets limits on the production cross- section of 300 times the predicted rate for mediators with masses between 10 and 50 GeV and assuming a dark-matter mass of 1 GeV and unitary coupling. Constraints on colour- charged scalar simplified models are also presented. Assuming a dark-matter particle mass of 35 GeV, mediator particles with mass below 1.1 TeV are excluded for couplings yielding a dark-matter relic density consistent with measurements
