Stability of critical behaviour of weakly disordered systems with respect to the replica symmetry breaking

A field-theoretic description of the critical behaviour of the weakly disordered systems is given. Directly, for three- and two-dimensional systems a renormalization analysis of the effective Hamiltonian of model with replica symmetry breaking (RSB) potentials is carried out in the two-loop approximation. For case with 1-step RSB the fixed points (FP's) corresponding to stability of the various types of critical behaviour are identified with the use of the Pade-Borel summation technique. Analysis of FP's has shown a stability of the critical behaviour of the weakly disordered systems with respect to RSB effects and realization of former scenario of disorder influence on critical behaviour.Comment: 10 pages, RevTeX. Efficient Raman Sideband Generation in a Coherent Atomic Medium

    Get PDF
We demonstrate the efficient generation of Raman sidebands in a medium coherently prepared in a dark state by continuous-wave low-intensity laser radiation. Our experiment is performed in sodium vapor excited in Λ\Lambda configuration on the D1_{1} line by two laser fields of resonant frequencies ω1\omega_{1} and ω2\omega_{2}, and probed by a third field % \omega_{3}. First-order sidebands for frequencies ω1\omega_{1}, ω2\omega_{2} and up to the third-order sidebands for frequency ω3\omega_{3} are observed. The generation starts at a power as low as 10 microwatt for each input field. Dependencies of the intensities of both input and generated waves on the frequency difference (ω1ω2\omega_{1}-\omega_{2}), on the frequency ω3\omega_{3} and on the optical density are investigated.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure

Landscape equivalent of the shoving model

    Get PDF
It is shown that the shoving model expression for the average relaxation time of viscous liquids follows largely from a classical "landscape" estimation of barrier heights from curvature at energy minima. The activation energy involves both instantaneous bulk and shear moduli, but the bulk modulus contributes less than 8% to the temperature dependence of the activation energy. This reflects the fact that the physics of the two models are closely related.Comment: 4 page

Continuous-time statistics and generalized relaxation equations

    Get PDF
Using two simple examples, the continuous-time random walk as well as a two state Markov chain, the relation between generalized anomalous relaxation equations and semi-Markov processes is illustrated. This relation is then used to discuss continuous-time random statistics in a general setting, for statistics of convolution-type. Two examples are presented in some detail: the sum statistic and the maximum statistic

Letter of interest for a neutrino beam from Protvino to KM3NeT/ORCA

The Protvino accelerator facility located in the Moscow region, Russia, is in a good position to offer a rich experimental research program in the field of neutrino physics. Of particular interest is the possibility to direct a neutrino beam from Protvino towards the KM3NeT/ORCA detector, which is currently under construction in the Mediterranean Sea 40 km offshore Toulon, France. This proposal is known as P2O. Thanks to its baseline of 2595 km, this experiment would yield an unparalleled sensitivity to matter effects in the Earth, allowing for the determination of the neutrino mass ordering with a high level of certainty after only a few years of running at a modest beam intensity of ≈ 90 kW. With a prolonged exposure (≈1500 kWyear), a 2σ sensitivity to the leptonic CP-violating Dirac phase can be achieved. A second stage of the experiment, comprising a further intensity upgrade of the accelerator complex and a densified version of the ORCA detector (Super-ORCA), would allow for up to a 6σ sensitivity to CP violation and a 10º−17º resolution on the CP phase after 10 years of running with a 450 kW beam, competitive with other planned experiments. The initial composition and energy spectrum of the neutrino beam would need to be monitored by a near detector, to be constructed several hundred meters downstream from the proton beam target. The same neutrino beam and near detector set-up would also allow for neutrino-nucleus cross section measurements to be performed. A short-baseline sterile neutrino search experiment would also be possible

Search for the Xb and other hidden-beauty states in the π+π−ϒ(1S) channel at ATLAS

This Letter presents a search for a hidden-beauty counterpart of the X(3872) in the mass ranges of 10.05–10.31 GeV and 10.40–11.00 GeV, in the channel Xb→π+π−ϒ(1S)(→μ+μ−), using 16.2 fb−1 of pp   collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. No evidence for new narrow states is found, and upper limits are set on the product of the Xb cross section and branching fraction, relative to those of the ϒ(2S), at the 95% confidence level using the CLS approach. These limits range from 0.8% to 4.0%, depending on mass. For masses above 10.1 GeV, the expected upper limits from this analysis are the most restrictive to date. Searches for production of the ϒ(13DJ), , and states also reveal no significant signals
