Event Syntax and Event Semantics as Constraints on Availability of Discourse
The understanding of how temporal information constrains situation models is far from complete. In tehse two experiments participants read short stories, where the antecedent sentence was manipulated with respect to varying tense, grammatical and lexical verb aspect (Experiment 1), and then by varying grammatical and lexical verb aspect in conjunction with long and short duration events (Experiment 2). We used electrophysiological measures time-locked to the anaphoric referent to investigate how the brain responds to these temporal constraints. The purpose was to investigate teh possibility that these variables have an influence on the availability of discourse concepts in situation models. In Experiment 1, the anaphoric referent elicited a larger N400 when it was presented previously in a perfective antecedent sentence than an imperfective sentence. This N400 difference for grammatical aspect was limited to antecdent sentences with accomplishments as there was no statistical evidence for activities. Tense did not influence availability regardless of lexical aspect. In Experiment 2, N400 amplitudes were again modulated by grammatical aspect and this effect was also found to be limited to when antecedent sentences contained accomplishments. Furthermore, the results demonstrated that the imperfective advantage observed for accomplishments is not present after an intervening event with a long time shift. The implications of these findings are discussed in terms of theories of situation models
Olivine or Impact Melt: Nature of the "Orange" Material on Vesta from Dawn
NASA's Dawn mission observed a great variety of colored terrains on asteroid
(4) Vesta during its survey with the Framing Camera (FC). Here we present a
detailed study of the orange material on Vesta, which was first observed in
color ratio images obtained by the FC and presents a red spectral slope. The
orange material deposits can be classified into three types, a) diffuse ejecta
deposited by recent medium-size impact craters (such as Oppia), b) lobate
patches with well-defined edges, and c) ejecta rays from fresh-looking impact
craters. The location of the orange diffuse ejecta from Oppia corresponds to
the olivine spot nicknamed "Leslie feature" first identified by Gaffey (1997)
from ground-based spectral observations. The distribution of the orange
material in the FC mosaic is concentrated on the equatorial region and almost
exclusively outside the Rheasilvia basin. Our in-depth analysis of the
composition of this material uses complementary observations from FC, the
visible and infrared spectrometer (VIR), and the Gamma Ray and Neutron Detector
(GRaND). Combining the interpretations from the topography, geomorphology,
color and spectral parameters, and elemental abundances, the most probable
analog for the orange material on Vesta is impact melt
Tri-bimaximal mixing, discrete family symmetries, and a conjecture connecting the quark and lepton mixing matrices
Neutrino oscillation experiments (excluding the LSND experiment) suggest a
tri-bimaximal form for the lepton mixing matrix. This form indicates that the
mixing matrix is probably independent of the lepton masses, and suggests the
action of an underlying discrete family symmetry. Using these hints, we
conjecture that the contrasting forms of the quark and lepton mixing matrices
may both be generated by such a discrete family symmetry. This idea is that the
diagonalisation matrices out of which the physical mixing matrices are composed
have large mixing angles, which cancel out due to a symmetry when the CKM
matrix is computed, but do not do so in the MNS case. However, in the cases
where the Higgs bosons are singlets under the symmetry, and the family symmetry
commutes with SU(2)L, we prove a no-go theorem: no discrete unbroken family
symmetry can produce the required mixing patterns. We then suggest avenues for

The Returns to Criminal Capital
Human capital theory (Becker 1962; Mincer 1958; Schultz 1960; 1961) posits that individuals can increase their labor market returns through investments in education and training. This concept has been studied extensively across several disciplines. An analog concept of criminal capital, while the focus of speculation and limited empirical study, remains considerably less developed theoretically and methodologically. This paper offers a formal theoretical model of criminal capital indicators and tests for greater illegal wage returns using a sample of serious adolescent offenders, many of whom participate in illegal income-generating activities. Our results reveal that, consistent with human capital theory, there are important illegal wage premiums associated with investments in criminal capital, notably an increasing but declining marginal return to experience and a premium for specialization. Further, as in studies of legal labor markets, we find strong evidence that, if left unaccounted for, non-random sample selection causes severe bias in models of illegal wages. Theoretical and practical implications of these results, along with directions for future research, are discussed
Nature of the "Orange" Material on Vesta From Dawn
From ground-based observations of Vesta, it is well-known that the vestan surface has a large variation in albedo. Analysis of images acquired by the Hubble Space Telescope allowed production of the first color maps of Vesta and showed a diverse surface in terms of reflectance. Thanks to images collected by the Dawn spacecraft at Vesta, it became obvious that these specific units observed previously can be linked to geological features. The presence of the darkest material mostly around impact craters and scattered in the Western hemisphere has been associated with carbonaceous chondrite contamination [4]; whereas the brightest materials are believed to result from exposure of unaltered material from the subsurface of Vesta (in fresh looking impact crater rims and in Rheasilvia's ejecta and rim remants). Here we focus on a distinct material characterized by a steep slope in the near-IR relative to all other kinds of materials found on Vesta. It was first detected when combining Dawn Framing Camera (FC) color images in Clementine false-color composites [5] during the Approach phase of the mission (100000 to 5200 km from Vesta). We investigate the mineralogical and elemental composition of this material and its relationship with the HEDs (Howardite-Eucrite- Diogenite group of meteorites)
The Relation Between the Surface Brightness and the Diameter for Galactic Supernova Remnants
In this work, we have constructed a relation between the surface brightness
() and diameter (D) of Galactic C- and S-type supernova remnants
(SNRs). In order to calibrate the -D dependence, we have carefully
examined some intrinsic (e.g. explosion energy) and extrinsic (e.g. density of
the ambient medium) properties of the remnants and, taking into account also
the distance values given in the literature, we have adopted distances for some
of the SNRs which have relatively more reliable distance values. These
calibrator SNRs are all C- and S-type SNRs, i.e. F-type SNRs (and S-type SNR
Cas A which has an exceptionally high surface brightness) are excluded. The
Sigma-D relation has 2 slopes with a turning point at D=36.5 pc: (at 1
GHz)=8.4 D

basis for the -D dependence and particularly the reasons for the change
in slope of the relation were stated. Added to this, we have shown the
dependence between the radio luminosity and the diameter which seems to have a
slope close to zero up to about D=36.5 pc. We have also adopted distance and
diameter values for all of the observed Galactic SNRs by examining all the
available distance values presented in the literature together with the

Occupational Learning, Financial Knowledge, and the Accumulation of Retirement Wealth
This study explores the relationship between general human capital investment, financial
knowledge, occupational spillovers, and the accumulation of wealth in a primarily
descriptive manner. Drawing upon human capital theory and following previous related
work by Delavande, Rohwedder and Willis (2008), we hypothesized that individuals with
daily exposure to financial knowledge through their occupation would benefit by having greater financial knowledge that would translate into greater wealth accumulation than individuals who do not enjoy such spillovers from their occupation. Using data from the Cognitive Economics Study and the Health and Retirement Study, we find strong evidence that individuals in financial occupations tend to have greater financial knowledge and moderate evidence that they also have greater wealth accumulation.Social Security Administrationhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/78354/1/wp237.pd
Measurement of χ c1 and χ c2 production with s√ = 7 TeV pp collisions at ATLAS
The prompt and non-prompt production cross-sections for the χ c1 and χ c2 charmonium states are measured in pp collisions at s√ = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using 4.5 fb−1 of integrated luminosity. The χ c states are reconstructed through the radiative decay χ c → J/ψγ (with J/ψ → μ + μ −) where photons are reconstructed from γ → e + e − conversions. The production rate of the χ c2 state relative to the χ c1 state is measured for prompt and non-prompt χ c as a function of J/ψ transverse momentum. The prompt χ c cross-sections are combined with existing measurements of prompt J/ψ production to derive the fraction of prompt J/ψ produced in feed-down from χ c decays. The fractions of χ c1 and χ c2 produced in b-hadron decays are also measured
Single hadron response measurement and calorimeter jet energy scale uncertainty with the ATLAS detector at the LHC
The uncertainty on the calorimeter energy response to jets of particles is
derived for the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). First, the
calorimeter response to single isolated charged hadrons is measured and
compared to the Monte Carlo simulation using proton-proton collisions at
centre-of-mass energies of sqrt(s) = 900 GeV and 7 TeV collected during 2009
and 2010. Then, using the decay of K_s and Lambda particles, the calorimeter
response to specific types of particles (positively and negatively charged
pions, protons, and anti-protons) is measured and compared to the Monte Carlo
predictions. Finally, the jet energy scale uncertainty is determined by
propagating the response uncertainty for single charged and neutral particles
to jets. The response uncertainty is 2-5% for central isolated hadrons and 1-3%

Search for squarks and gluinos in events with isolated leptons, jets and missing transverse momentum at s√=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector
The results of a search for supersymmetry in final states containing at least one isolated lepton (electron or muon), jets and large missing transverse momentum with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider are reported. The search is based on proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy s√=8 TeV collected in 2012, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20 fb−1. No significant excess above the Standard Model expectation is observed. Limits are set on supersymmetric particle masses for various supersymmetric models. Depending on the model, the search excludes gluino masses up to 1.32 TeV and squark masses up to 840 GeV. Limits are also set on the parameters of a minimal universal extra dimension model, excluding a compactification radius of 1/R c = 950 GeV for a cut-off scale times radius (ΛR c) of approximately 30
