    Get PDF
An 800nm band fiber Bragg grating sensing interrogation system using TFBG as the core wavelength division component is presented. A charge coupled device (CCD) linear array is put on the focal plane of the lens to detect the light. TFBG is used to tap light out of the fiber core to fiber cladding. The sensing wavelength is 795 to 830nm, with accuracy of 20pm and scan speed 100Hz. Using FBG sensor, we achieve the temperature sensitivity as 1.8°C and strain sensitivity as 18με

Transcending the Silos through Project Management Office: Knowledge Transactions, Brokerage Roles, and Enabling Factors

    Get PDF
Organisations often suffer from knowledge flow gaps between operational and strategic management levels, leaving much knowledge trapped within operations’ boundaries. Prior studies viewed the project management office (PMO) as a knowledge broker that can enhance the interaction between these levels. However, they take a single-faceted knowledge brokering perspective that fails to define the specific knowledge brokering roles of the PMO and offer highly fragmentary evidence on the associated enabling factors. To fill this void, we draw on the brokerage theory to develop a comprehensive theoretical framework in which we define specific knowledge brokering roles of the PMO and delineate their enabling factors for facilitating multidirectional knowledge transactions. We elaborate on three sets of knowledge brokering roles, each of which corresponds to one of three categories of knowledge transactions. Our model shows how PMOs can broker knowledge trapped in organisational silos by balancing bottom-up experiential learning with top-down deliberate learning while maintaining horizontal knowledge synchronisation

    Get PDF
We present in this letter the fabrication and characterization of thermally stable type II waveguides in Z-cut periodically poled lithium niobate crystals. The waveguides were fabricated by using a femtosecond laser and were utilized for second harmonic generation. Our experiments have shown that a quasiphase matching wavelength of 1548.2nm, a tuning bandwidth of 2nm, and a tuning temperature range of 150.4±1.6°C can be achieved

Establishment of a Method for the Identification of Plant-Derived Ingredients in Mānuka Honey

    Get PDF
To establish a method to identify the authenticity of manuka honey, this study compared different methods of DNA extraction from mānuka honey pollen, and it developed a DNA extraction method for mānuka honey supernatant and a real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) method for the detection of plant-derived ingredients in mānuka honey, including plant internal control, mānuka and kānuka. By analyzing the specificity, sensitivity, detection limit and comparing with the method of the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), the feasibility, accuracy and equivalence of this method were confirmed. The proposed DNA detection method could replace the MPI method, not only shaking off the dependence on kits, but also making up for the deficiency of identifying mānuka honey pollen only. It has an important application value and scientific significance for the identification of mānuka honey

Antifatigue Effects of Antrodia cinnamomea Cultured Mycelium via Modulation of Oxidative Stress Signaling in a Mouse Model

    Get PDF
Antrodia cinnamomea, a folk medicinal mushroom, has numerous biological effects. In this study, we aim to assess whether the antifatigue effects of A. cinnamomea mycelia (AC) and its underlying mechanisms are related to oxidative stress signaling using behavioral mouse models and biochemical indices detection. Mice were orally treated with AC at doses of 0.1, 0.3, and 0.9 g/kg for three weeks. AC had no effect on the spontaneous activities of mice indicating its safety on central nervous system. Furthermore, results obtained from weight-loaded forced swimming test, rotary rod test, and exhausted running test confirmed that AC significantly enhanced exercise tolerance of mice. Biochemical indices levels showed that these effects were closely correlated with inhibiting the depletion of glycogen and adenosine triphosphate stores, regulating oxidative stress-related parameters (superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, reactive oxygen species, and malondialdehyde) in serum, skeletal muscle, and liver of mice. Moreover, the effects of AC may be related with its regulation on the activations of AMP-activated protein kinase, protein kinase B, and mammalian target of rapamycin in liver and skeletal muscle of mice. Altogether, our data suggest that the antifatigue properties of AC may be one such modulation mechanism via oxidative stress-related signaling in mice

Bufei Yishen Granules Combined with Acupoint Sticking Therapy Suppress Inflammation in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Rats: Via JNK/p38 Signaling Pathway

    Get PDF
The present study was initiated to explore the mechanism of the effects of Bufei Yishen granules combined with acupoint sticking therapy (Shu-Fei Tie) on inflammation regulated by c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and p38 MAPK signaling in COPD rats. Seventy-two rats were divided into healthy control (Control), Model, Bufei Yishen (BY), acupoint sticking (AS), Bufei Yishen + acupoint sticking (BY + AS), and aminophylline (APL) groups (n=12 each). COPD rats were exposed to cigarette smoke and bacteria and were given the various treatments from weeks 9 through 20; all animals were sacrificed at the end of week 20. MCP-1, IL-2, IL-6, and IL-10 concentrations in BALF and lung tissue as well as JNK and p38 mRNA and protein levels in lung were measured. The results showed that all the four treatment protocols (BY, AS, BY + AS, and APL) markedly reduced the concentrations of IL-2, IL-6, and MCP-1 and levels of JNK and p38 MAPK mRNA, and the effects of Bufei Yishen granules combined with acupoint sticking therapy were better than acupoint sticking therapy only and aminophylline. In conclusion, the favorable effect of Bufei Yishen granules combined with Shu-Fei Tie may be due to decreased inflammation through regulation of the JNK/p38 signaling pathways

Measurement of the photon identification efficiencies with the ATLAS detector using LHC Run-1 data

    Get PDF
© 2016, CERN for the benefit of the ATLAS collaboration. The algorithms used by the ATLAS Collaboration to reconstruct and identify prompt photons are described. Measurements of the photon identification efficiencies are reported, using 4.9 fb- 1 of pp collision data collected at the LHC at s=7 TeV and 20.3 fb- 1 at s=8 TeV. The efficiencies are measured separately for converted and unconverted photons, in four different pseudorapidity regions, for transverse momenta between 10 GeV and 1.5 TeV. The results from the combination of three data-driven techniques are compared to the predictions from a simulation of the detector response, after correcting the electromagnetic shower momenta in the simulation for the average differences observed with respect to data. Data-to-simulation efficiency ratios used as correction factors in physics measurements are determined to account for the small residual efficiency differences. These factors are measured with uncertainties between 0.5% and 10% in 7 TeV data and between 0.5% and 5.6% in 8 TeV data, depending on the photon transverse momentum and pseudorapidity

Measurement of the tt̄W and tt̄Z production cross sections in pp collisions at √s = 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    Get PDF
The production cross sections of top-quark pairs in association with massive vector bosons have been measured using data from pp collisions at s√ = 8 TeV. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb−¹ collected by the ATLAS detector in 2012 at the LHC. Final states with two, three or four leptons are considered. A fit to the data considering the tt̄W and tt̄Z processes simultaneously yields a significance of 5.0σ (4.2σ) over the background-only hypothesis for tt¯Wtt¯W (tt̄Z) production. The measured cross sections are σtt̄W = 369 + 100−91 fb and σtt̄Z = 176 + 58−52 fb. The background-only hypothesis with neither tt̄W nor tt̄Z production is excluded at 7.1σ. All measurements are consistent with next-to-leading-order calculations for the tt̄W and tt̄Z processes
