Palladacycles bearing tridentate CNS-type benzamidinate ligands as catalysts for cross-coupling reactions

    Get PDF
Three pendant benzamidines, [Ph-C(=NC6H5)-{NH(E)}] [E = -(CH2)(2)SMe (1); -(CH2)(2)(SBu)-Bu-t (2); -o-C6H4SMe (3)], are described. Reactions of 1, 2 or 3 with one molar equivalent of Pd(OAc)(2) in CH2Cl2 give the palladacyclic complexes, [Ph-C{-NH(eta(1)-C6H4)} {=N(E)}]Pd(OAc) [E = -(CH2)(2)SMe (4); -(CH2)(2)(SBu)-Bu-t (5); -o-C6H4SMe (6)], as mononuclear palladium complexes respectively. A minor product described as 5', {[Ph-C{-N(C6H5)} {-N(CH2)(2)(SBu)-Bu-t}]Pd(OAc)}(2), was isolated as benzamidinate-bridged dinuclear palladium complex upon recrystallizing from Et2O/hexane solution. Treatment of 1, 2 or 3 with one molar equivalent of PdCl2 in the presence of NEt3 in CH2Cl2 gives the palladacyclic complexes, [Ph-C{-NH(eta(1)-C6H4)}{=N(E)}]PdCl [E = -(CH2)(2)SMe (7); -(CH2)(2)(SBu)-Bu-t (8); -o-C6H4SMe (9)], as mononuclear palladium complexes respectively. The crystal and molecular structures are reported for compounds 5, 5' and 6-8. The application of these palladacyclic complexes to the Suzuki and Heck coupling reactions was examined

Heat capacity studies of magnetic phase transition in sodium-rich NaxCoO₂ (0.73 ≤ x ≤ 0.87)

    No full text
Specific heat measurements in the temperature region from 2 to 50 K in magnetic field up to 10 T, oriented parallel and perpendicularly to the CoO₂ layers were carried out on a series of high-quality single- crystals of NaxCoO₂ (x = 0.73, 0.76, 0.77, 0.78 and 0.87). Surprisingly, sharp lambda type anomaly was observed only for the concentration x = 0.76 at temperature (21.80 ± 0.02) K, for all the remaining doping levels round anomaly in experimental data was visible at temperature ~ 20 K, indicating a smeared magnetic phase transition. While the magnetic field oriented perpendicularly to the CoO₂ layers shifts the temperature of this anomaly to lower values, parallel magnetic field has no influence on it, what indirectly supports the idea of A-type antiferromagnetic ordering in studied systems

Intelligent tracking control of a DC motor driver using self-organizing TSK type fuzzy neural networks

    Get PDF
[[abstract]]In this paper, a self-organizing Takagi–Sugeno–Kang (TSK) type fuzzy neural network (STFNN) is proposed. The self-organizing approach demonstrates the property of automatically generating and pruning the fuzzy rules of STFNN without the preliminary knowledge. The learning algorithms not only extract the fuzzy rule of STFNN but also adjust the parameters of STFNN. Then, an adaptive self-organizing TSK-type fuzzy network controller (ASTFNC) system which is composed of a neural controller and a robust compensator is proposed. The neural controller uses an STFNN to approximate an ideal controller, and the robust compensator is designed to eliminate the approximation error in the Lyapunov stability sense without occurring chattering phenomena. Moreover, a proportional-integral (PI) type parameter tuning mechanism is derived to speed up the convergence rates of the tracking error. Finally, the proposed ASTFNC system is applied to a DC motor driver on a field-programmable gate array chip for low-cost and high-performance industrial applications. The experimental results verify the system stabilization and favorable tracking performance, and no chattering phenomena can be achieved by the proposed ASTFNC scheme.[[notice]]補正完畢[[incitationindex]]SCI[[booktype]]紙本[[booktype]]電子

    Axion Radiation from Strings

    Get PDF
This paper revisits the problem of the string decay contribution to the axion cosmological energy density. We show that this contribution is proportional to the average relative increase when axion strings decay of a certain quantity NaxN_{\rm ax} which we define. We carry out numerical simulations of the evolution and decay of circular and non-circular string loops, of bent strings with ends held fixed, and of vortex-antivortex pairs in two dimensions. In the case of string loops and of vortex-antivortex pairs, NaxN_{\rm ax} decreases by approximately 20%. In the case of bent strings, NaxN_{\rm ax} remains constant or increases slightly. Our results imply that the string decay contribution to the axion energy density is of the same order of magnitude as the well-understood contribution from vacuum realignment.Comment: 29 pages, 10 figure

    Extremal Bundles on Calabi-Yau Threefolds

    Get PDF
We study constructions of stable holomorphic vector bundles on Calabi–Yau threefolds, especially those with exact anomaly cancellation which we call extremal. By going through the known databases we find that such examples are rare in general and can be ruled out for the spectral cover construction for all elliptic threefolds. We then introduce a general Hartshorne–Serre construction and use it to find extremal bundles of general ranks and study their stability, as well as computing their Chern numbers. Based on both existing and our new constructions, we revisit the DRY conjecture for the existence of stable sheaves on Calabi–threefolds, and provide theoretical and numerical evidence for its correctness. Our construction can be easily generalized to bundles with no extremal conditions imposed

Search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos in events with three leptons and missing transverse momentum in √s = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

    Get PDF
A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with three electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum is presented. The analysis is based on 4.7 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded with the ATLAS detector. Observations are consistent with Standard Model expectations in three signal regions that are either depleted or enriched in Z-boson decays. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in R-parity conserving phenomenological minimal supersymmetric models and in simplified models, significantly extending previous results

Observation of a new chi_b state in radiative transitions to Upsilon(1S) and Upsilon(2S) at ATLAS

    Get PDF
The chi_b(nP) quarkonium states are produced in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector. Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.4 fb^-1, these states are reconstructed through their radiative decays to Upsilon(1S,2S) with Upsilon->mu+mu-. In addition to the mass peaks corresponding to the decay modes chi_b(1P,2P)->Upsilon(1S)gamma, a new structure centered at a mass of 10.530+/-0.005 (stat.)+/-0.009 (syst.) GeV is also observed, in both the Upsilon(1S)gamma and Upsilon(2S)gamma decay modes. This is interpreted as the chi_b(3P) system.Comment: 5 pages plus author list (18 pages total), 2 figures, 1 table, corrected author list, matches final version in Physical Review Letter

Search for displaced vertices arising from decays of new heavy particles in 7 TeV pp collisions at ATLAS

    Get PDF
We present the results of a search for new, heavy particles that decay at a significant distance from their production point into a final state containing charged hadrons in association with a high-momentum muon. The search is conducted in a pp-collision data sample with a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV and an integrated luminosity of 33 pb^-1 collected in 2010 by the ATLAS detector operating at the Large Hadron Collider. Production of such particles is expected in various scenarios of physics beyond the standard model. We observe no signal and place limits on the production cross-section of supersymmetric particles in an R-parity-violating scenario as a function of the neutralino lifetime. Limits are presented for different squark and neutralino masses, enabling extension of the limits to a variety of other models.Comment: 8 pages plus author list (20 pages total), 8 figures, 1 table, final version to appear in Physics Letters

Jet size dependence of single jet suppression in lead-lead collisions at sqrt(s(NN)) = 2.76 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

    Get PDF
Measurements of inclusive jet suppression in heavy ion collisions at the LHC provide direct sensitivity to the physics of jet quenching. In a sample of lead-lead collisions at sqrt(s) = 2.76 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 7 inverse microbarns, ATLAS has measured jets with a calorimeter over the pseudorapidity interval |eta| < 2.1 and over the transverse momentum range 38 < pT < 210 GeV. Jets were reconstructed using the anti-kt algorithm with values for the distance parameter that determines the nominal jet radius of R = 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5. The centrality dependence of the jet yield is characterized by the jet "central-to-peripheral ratio," Rcp. Jet production is found to be suppressed by approximately a factor of two in the 10% most central collisions relative to peripheral collisions. Rcp varies smoothly with centrality as characterized by the number of participating nucleons. The observed suppression is only weakly dependent on jet radius and transverse momentum. These results provide the first direct measurement of inclusive jet suppression in heavy ion collisions and complement previous measurements of dijet transverse energy imbalance at the LHC.Comment: 15 pages plus author list (30 pages total), 8 figures, 2 tables, submitted to Physics Letters B.
