Annealing studies of visible light emission from silicon nanocrystals produced by implantation
The annealing behavior of silicon implanted SiO{sub 2} layers is studied using continuous and time-gated photoluminescence (PL). Two PL emission bands are observed. A band centered at 560 nm is present in as implanted samples and it is still observed after 1000 {degrees}C annealing. The emission time is fast (0.2 -2 ns). A second band centered at 780 nm further increases when hydrogen annealing was performed. The emission time is long (1 {mu}s - 0.3 ms)
Electronic transport and vibrational modes in the smallest molecular bridge: H2 in Pt nanocontacts
We present a state-of-the-art first-principles analysis of electronic
transport in a Pt nanocontact in the presence of H2 which has been recently
reported by Smit et al. in Nature 419, 906 (2002). Our results indicate that at
the last stages of the breaking of the Pt nanocontact two basic forms of bridge
involving H can appear. Our claim is, in contrast to Smit et al.'s, that the
main conductance histogram peak at G approx 2e^2/h is not due to molecular H2,
but to a complex Pt2H2 where the H2 molecule dissociates. A first-principles
vibrational analysis that compares favorably with the experimental one also
supports our claim .Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Lattice gauge theory with baryons at strong coupling
We study the effective Hamiltonian for strong-coupling lattice QCD in the
case of non-zero baryon density. In leading order the effective Hamiltonian is
a generalized antiferromagnet. For naive fermions, the symmetry is U(4N_f) and
the spins belong to a representation that depends on the local baryon number.
Next-nearest-neighbor (nnn) terms in the Hamiltonian break the symmetry to
U(N_f) x U(N_f). We transform the quantum problem to a Euclidean sigma model
which we analyze in a 1/N_c expansion. In the vacuum sector we recover
spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry for the nearest-neighbor and nnn
theories. For non-zero baryon density we study the nearest-neighbor theory
only, and show that the pattern of spontaneous symmetry breaking depends on the

Effects of decoherence and errors on Bell-inequality violation
We study optimal conditions for violation of the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt
form of the Bell inequality in the presence of decoherence and measurement
errors. We obtain all detector configurations providing the maximal Bell
inequality violation for a general (pure or mixed) state. We consider local
decoherence which includes energy relaxation at the zero temperature and
arbitrary dephasing. Conditions for the maximal Bell-inequality violation in
the presence of decoherence are analyzed both analytically and numerically for
the general case and for a number of important special cases. Combined effects
of measurement errors and decoherence are also discussed.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figure
A note on the extensivity of the holographic entanglement entropy
We consider situations where the renormalized geometric entropy, as defined
by the AdS/CFT ansatz of Ryu and Takayanagi, shows extensive behavior in the
volume of the entangled region. In general, any holographic geometry that is
`capped' in the infrared region is a candidate for extensivity provided the
growth of minimal surfaces saturates at the capping region, and the induced
metric at the `cap' is non-degenerate. Extensivity is well-known to occur for
highly thermalized states. In this note, we show that the holographic ansatz
predicts the persistence of the extensivity down to vanishing temperature, for
the particular case of conformal field theories in 2+1 dimensions with a

Measurement of and charged current inclusive cross sections and their ratio with the T2K off-axis near detector
We report a measurement of cross section and the first measurements of the cross section
and their ratio
at (anti-)neutrino energies below 1.5
GeV. We determine the single momentum bin cross section measurements, averaged
over the T2K -flux, for the detector target material (mainly
Carbon, Oxygen, Hydrogen and Copper) with phase space restricted laboratory
frame kinematics of 500 MeV/c. The

Search for the glueball candidates f0(1500) and fJ(1710) in gamma gamma collisions
Data taken with the ALEPH detector at LEP1 have been used to search for gamma
gamma production of the glueball candidates f0(1500) and fJ(1710) via their
decay to pi+pi-. No signal is observed and upper limits to the product of gamma
gamma width and pi+pi- branching ratio of the f0(1500) and the fJ(1710) have
been measured to be Gamma_(gamma gamma -> f0(1500)). BR(f0(1500)->pi+pi-) <
0.31 keV and Gamma_(gamma gamma -> fJ(1710)). BR(fJ(1710)->pi+pi-) < 0.55 keV

Search for supersymmetry with a dominant R-parity violating LQDbar couplings in e+e- collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 130GeV to 172 GeV
A search for pair-production of supersymmetric particles under the assumption
that R-parity is violated via a dominant LQDbar coupling has been performed
using the data collected by ALEPH at centre-of-mass energies of 130-172 GeV.
The observed candidate events in the data are in agreement with the Standard
Model expectation. This result is translated into lower limits on the masses of
charginos, neutralinos, sleptons, sneutrinos and squarks. For instance, for
m_0=500 GeV/c^2 and tan(beta)=sqrt(2) charginos with masses smaller than 81
GeV/c^2 and neutralinos with masses smaller than 29 GeV/c^2 are excluded at the
95% confidence level for any generation structure of the LQDbar coupling.Comment: 32 pages, 30 figure
Search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos in events with three leptons and missing transverse momentum in √s = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with three electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum is presented. The analysis is based on 4.7 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded with the ATLAS detector. Observations are consistent with Standard Model expectations in three signal regions that are either depleted or enriched in Z-boson decays. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in R-parity conserving phenomenological minimal supersymmetric models and in simplified models, significantly extending previous results
