Radiative Corrections to the Decay τ→πντ\tau\to\pi\nu_\tau

We have calculated the radiative corrections to the decay τ→π(K)ντ\tau\to \pi(K) \nu_\tau, taking to account internal bremsstrahlung and structure dependent radiation in the radiative decay and point meson, hadronic structure dependent and short distance contributions in the virtual corrections. We display the spectra of the photon energy and of the pion-photon invariant mass in the decay τ→πντγ\tau\to\pi\nu_\tau\gamma and compare with the PHOTOS Monte-Carlo. Our result for the radiative correction to the ratio Γ(τ→πντ(γ))/Γ(π→μνμ(γ))\Gamma(\tau\to\pi\nu_\tau(\gamma))/ \Gamma(\pi\to\mu\nu_\mu(\gamma)) is δRτ/π=(0.16±0.14)%\delta R_{\tau/\pi} = \left(0.16 \pm 0.14 \right) \% and for the ratio Γ(τ→Kντ(γ))/Γ(K→μνμ(γ))\Gamma(\tau\to K\nu_\tau(\gamma))/ \Gamma(K\to\mu\nu_\mu(\gamma)), we obtain δRτ/K=(0.90±0.22)%\delta R_{\tau/K } = \left(0.90 \pm 0.22 \right) \%.Comment: 12 pages, Latex, using: epsfig, subfigure, rotating. 9 figures not included, complete Postscript file (including the figures) available via e-mail on request. Twisted split-ring-resonator photonic metamaterial with huge optical activity

Coupled split-ring-resonator metamaterials have previously been shown to exhibit large coupling effects, which are a prerequisite for obtaining large effective optical activity. By a suitable lateral arrangement of these building blocks, we completely eliminate linear birefringence and obtain pure optical activity and connected circular optical dichroism. Experiments at around 100-THz frequency and corresponding modeling are in good agreement. Rotation angles of about 30 degrees for 205nm sample thickness are derived.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

While still in the midst of their study abroad experiences, students at Linfield College write reflective essays. Their essays address issues of cultural similarity and difference, compare lifestyles, mores, norms, and habits between their host countries and home, and examine changes in perceptions about their host countries and the United States. In this essay, Jackson Decker describes his observations during his study abroad program at Kanto Gakuin University in Yokohama, Japan

Who Is The American League MVP On a Per Dollar Basis?

    Get PDF
This study will look at the value of MLB players in the American League on a per dollar basis. It will be based on the 2011 statistics and will use a linear regression model to create a value for each player. The value will be based on a variety of statistics based upon position. For all players: age, team wins, and years in the league will be accounted for. For field players: games played, hits, runs, doubles, triples, home runs, runs batted in, walks, strike outs, stolen bases, on base percentage, slugging percentage, fielding percentage and errors will be accounted for as well. Pitchers will be based on stats on a per inning basis of: innings, strike outs, walks, earned run average, walks hits per inning pitched, quality starts, saves and wins above replacement. The general public sees players as stars based on their giant contracts, and who is paid the most. There are players in the league who play better on a per dollar basis that the famous stars who have massive contracts. I will discover who those players are

Radiative Corrections to πl2\pi_{l2} and Kl2K_{l2} Decays

We reexamine radiative corrections to πl2\pi_{l2} and Kl2K_{l2} decays. We perform a matching calculation, including vector and axial vector resonances as explicit degrees of freedom in the long distance part. By considering the dependence on the matching scale and on the hadronic parameters, and by comparing with model independent estimates, we scrutinize the model dependence of the results. For the pseudoscalar meson decay constants, we extract the values f_pi = (92.1 \pm 0.3) MeV and f_K = (112.4 \pm 0.9) MeV. For the ratios R_pi and R_K of the electronic and muonic decay modes, we predict R_pi = (1.2354 \pm 0.0002) 10^{-4} and R_K = (2.472 \pm 0.001) 10^{-5}.Comment: 8 pages, Latex, uses epsfig. Revised version: Major changes in the presentaion, but no changes in the results. To appear in Phys. Lett.
