Segregation and Life Satisfaction
IndexaciĂłn: ScopusOur aim is to cast light on socioeconomic residential segregation effects on life satisfaction (LS). In order to test our hypothesis, we use survey data from Chile (Casen) for the years 2011 and 2013. We use the Duncan Index to measure segregation based on income at the municipality level for 324 municipalities. LS is obtained from the CASEN survey, which considers a question about self-reported well-being. Segregationâs impact upon LS is not clear at first glance. On one hand, there is evidence telling that segregationâs consequences are negative due to the spatial concentration of poverty and all the woes related to it. On the other hand, segregation would have positive effects because people may feel stress, unhappiness, and alienation when comparing themselves to better-off households. Additionally, there is previous evidence regarding the fact that people prefer to neighbor people of a similar socioeconomic background. Hence, an empirical test is needed. In order to implement it, we should deal with two problems, first, the survey limited statistical significance at the municipal level, hence we use the small area estimation (SAE) methodology to improve the estimationsâ statistic properties, and second, the double causality between segregation and LS; to deal with the latter, we include lagged LS as a regressor. Our findings indicate that socioeconomic segregation has a positive effect on LS. AVOCADO: A Virtual Observatory Census to Address Dwarfs Origins
Dwarf galaxies are by far the most abundant of all galaxy types, yet their
properties are still poorly understood -especially due to the observational
challenge that their intrinsic faintness represents. AVOCADO aims at
establishing firm conclusions on their formation and evolution by constructing
a homogeneous, multiwavelength dataset for a statistically significant sample
of several thousand nearby dwarfs (-18 < Mi < -14). Using public data and
Virtual Observatory tools, we have built GALEX+SDSS+2MASS spectral energy
distributions that are fitted by a library of single stellar population models.
Star formation rates, stellar masses, ages and metallicities are further
complemented with structural parameters that can be used to classify them
morphologically. This unique dataset, coupled with a detailed characterization
of each dwar's environment, allows for a fully comprehensive investigation of
their origins and to track the (potential) evolutionary paths between the

PopStar Evolutionary Synthesis Models II: Optical emission-line spectra from Giant H{\sc ii} regions
This is the second paper of a series reporting the results from the PopStar
evolutionary synthesis models. Here we present synthetic emission line spectra
of H{\sc ii} regions photoionized by young star clusters, for seven values of
cluster masses and for ages between 0.1 and 5.2 Myr. The ionizing Spectral
Energy Distributions (SEDs) are those obtained by the PopStar code
\citep*{mgb09} for six different metallicities, with a very low metallicity
set, Z=0.0001, not included in previous similar works. We assume that the
radius of the H{\sc ii} region is the distance at which the ionized gas is
deposited by the action of the mechanical energy of the winds and supernovae
from the central ionizing young cluster. In this way the ionization parameter
is eliminated as free argument, since now its value is obtained from the
cluster physical properties (mass, age and metallicity) and from the gaseous
medium characteristics (density and abundances). We discuss our results and
compare them with those from previous models and also with a large and data set
of giant H{\sc ii} regions for which abundances have been derived in a
homogeneous manner. The values of the [OIII] lines (at 4363,
4959, 5007\AA) in the lowest metallicity nebulae are found to be very weak and
similar to those coming from very high metallicity regions (solar or
over-solar). Thus, the sole use of the oxygen lines is not enough to
distinguish between very low and very high metallicity regions. In these cases
we emphasize the need of the additional support of alternative metallicity

The star formation history and metal content of the "Green Peas". New detailed GTC-OSIRIS spectrophotometry of three galaxies
We present deep broad-band imaging and long-slit spectroscopy of three
compact, low-mass starburst galaxies at redshift z\sim0.2-0.3, also referred to
as Green Peas (GP). We measure physical properties of the ionized gas and
derive abundances for several species with high precision. We find that the
three GPs display relatively low extinction, low oxygen abundances, and
remarkably high N/O ratios We also report on the detection of clear signatures
of Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars in these galaxies. We carry out a pilot spectral
synthesis study using a combination of both population and evolutionary
synthesis models. Their outputs are in qualitative agreement, strongly
suggesting a formation history dominated by starbursts. In agreement with the
presence of WR stars, these models show that these GPs currently undergo a
major starburst producing between ~4% and ~20% of their stellar mass. However,
as models imply, they are old galaxies having had formed most of their stellar
mass several Gyr ago. The presence of old stars has been spectroscopically
verified in one of the galaxies by the detection of Mg I 5167, 5173 absorption
line. Additionally, we perform a surface photometry study based on HST data,
that indicates that the three galaxies posses an exponential low-surface
brightness envelope. If due to stellar emission, the latter is structurally
compatible to the evolved hosts of luminous BCD/HII galaxies, suggesting that
GPs are identifiable with major episodes in the assembly history of local BCDs.
These conclusions highlight the importance of these objects as laboratories for

Mapping the ionized gas of the metal-poor HII galaxy PHL 293B with MEGARA
Here we report the first spatially resolved spectroscopic study for the
galaxy PHL293B using the high-resolution GTC/MEGARA IFU. PHL293B is a local,
extremely metal-poor, high ionization galaxy. This makes PHL 293B an excellent
analogue for galaxies in the early Universe. The MEGARA aperture (~12.5''x
11.3'') covers the entire PHL 293B main body and its far-reaching ionized gas.
We created and discussed maps of all relevant emission lines, line ratios and
physical-chemical properties of the ionized ISM. The narrow emission gas
appears to be ionized mainly by massive stars according to the observed
diganostic line ratios, regardless of the position across the MEGARA aperture.
We detected low intensity broad emission components and blueshifted absorptions
in the Balmer lines (H,H) which are located in the brightest
zone of the galaxy ISM. A chemically homogeneity, across hundreds of parsecs,
is observed in O/H. We take the oxygen abundance 12+log(O/H)=7.64 0.06
derived from the PHL293B integrated spectrum as the representative metallicity
for the galaxy. Our IFU data reveal for the first time that the nebular
HeII4686 emission from PHL 293B is spatially extended and coincident with the
ionizing stellar cluster, and allow us to compute its absolute HeII ionizing
photon flux. Wolf-Rayet bumps are not detected excluding therefore Wolf-Rayet
stars as the main HeII excitation source. The origin of the nebular HeII4686 is

Charge separation relative to the reaction plane in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
Measurements of charge dependent azimuthal correlations with the ALICE
detector at the LHC are reported for Pb-Pb collisions at TeV. Two- and three-particle charge-dependent azimuthal correlations in
the pseudo-rapidity range are presented as a function of the
collision centrality, particle separation in pseudo-rapidity, and transverse
momentum. A clear signal compatible with a charge-dependent separation relative
to the reaction plane is observed, which shows little or no collision energy
dependence when compared to measurements at RHIC energies. This provides a new
insight for understanding the nature of the charge dependent azimuthal

Multiplicity dependence of jet-like two-particle correlations in p-Pb collisions at = 5.02 TeV
Two-particle angular correlations between unidentified charged trigger and
associated particles are measured by the ALICE detector in p-Pb collisions at a
nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. The transverse-momentum
range 0.7 5.0 GeV/ is examined,
to include correlations induced by jets originating from low
momen\-tum-transfer scatterings (minijets). The correlations expressed as
associated yield per trigger particle are obtained in the pseudorapidity range
. The near-side long-range pseudorapidity correlations observed in
high-multiplicity p-Pb collisions are subtracted from both near-side
short-range and away-side correlations in order to remove the non-jet-like
components. The yields in the jet-like peaks are found to be invariant with
event multiplicity with the exception of events with low multiplicity. This
invariance is consistent with the particles being produced via the incoherent
fragmentation of multiple parton--parton scatterings, while the yield related
to the previously observed ridge structures is not jet-related. The number of
uncorrelated sources of particle production is found to increase linearly with
multiplicity, suggesting no saturation of the number of multi-parton
interactions even in the highest multiplicity p-Pb collisions. Further, the
number scales in the intermediate multiplicity region with the number of binary

Multi-particle azimuthal correlations in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider
Measurements of multi-particle azimuthal correlations (cumulants) for charged
particles in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions are presented. They help address the
question of whether there is evidence for global, flow-like, azimuthal
correlations in the p-Pb system. Comparisons are made to measurements from the
larger Pb-Pb system, where such evidence is established. In particular, the
second harmonic two-particle cumulants are found to decrease with multiplicity,
characteristic of a dominance of few-particle correlations in p-Pb collisions.
However, when a gap is placed to suppress such correlations,
the two-particle cumulants begin to rise at high-multiplicity, indicating the
presence of global azimuthal correlations. The Pb-Pb values are higher than the
p-Pb values at similar multiplicities. In both systems, the second harmonic
four-particle cumulants exhibit a transition from positive to negative values
when the multiplicity increases. The negative values allow for a measurement of
to be made, which is found to be higher in Pb-Pb collisions at
similar multiplicities. The second harmonic six-particle cumulants are also
found to be higher in Pb-Pb collisions. In Pb-Pb collisions, we generally find
which is indicative of a Bessel-Gaussian
function for the distribution. For very high-multiplicity Pb-Pb
collisions, we observe that the four- and six-particle cumulants become
consistent with 0. Finally, third harmonic two-particle cumulants in p-Pb and
Pb-Pb are measured. These are found to be similar for overlapping
