Wine tourism, in Spain and Portugal, has been gaining ground among the more traditional forms of tourism. At the same time, the adoption of technological tools by the tourism sector is a continuous and significant process that is reflected in an increasing online presence of consumers planning their trips, with websites being crucial for companies as they function as a bridge between tourist organizations and tourists. In order to understand how the wineries belonging to three wine routes in Extremadura (Spain), Alentejo and Região Centro (Portugal) use the internet to strengthen their activity and promote wine tourism, this article presents the results obtained from applying a website evaluation matrix developed for this purpose. From the analysis of 121 websites, it was verified that most of the wineries have very static websites, which offer the minimum amount of information, demonstrating that most wineries do not understand the real potential of the Internet as a marketing tool to increase their wine tourism activity, its services and its presence in the market.NECE-UBI, Reserach Centre for Business Sciences, Research Centre and this work are funded by FCT –Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, IP, project UIDB/ 04630/2020

Juxtaposing BTE and ATE – on the role of the European insurance industry in funding civil litigation

One of the ways in which legal services are financed, and indeed shaped, is through private insurance arrangement. Two contrasting types of legal expenses insurance contracts (LEI) seem to dominate in Europe: before the event (BTE) and after the event (ATE) legal expenses insurance. Notwithstanding institutional differences between different legal systems, BTE and ATE insurance arrangements may be instrumental if government policy is geared towards strengthening a market-oriented system of financing access to justice for individuals and business. At the same time, emphasizing the role of a private industry as a keeper of the gates to justice raises issues of accountability and transparency, not readily reconcilable with demands of competition. Moreover, multiple actors (clients, lawyers, courts, insurers) are involved, causing behavioural dynamics which are not easily predicted or influenced. Against this background, this paper looks into BTE and ATE arrangements by analysing the particularities of BTE and ATE arrangements currently available in some European jurisdictions and by painting a picture of their respective markets and legal contexts. This allows for some reflection on the performance of BTE and ATE providers as both financiers and keepers. Two issues emerge from the analysis that are worthy of some further reflection. Firstly, there is the problematic long-term sustainability of some ATE products. Secondly, the challenges faced by policymakers that would like to nudge consumers into voluntarily taking out BTE LEI

Differential cross section measurements for the production of a W boson in association with jets in proton–proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV

Measurements are reported of differential cross sections for the production of a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, in association with jets, as a function of several variables, including the transverse momenta (pT) and pseudorapidities of the four leading jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta (HT), and the difference in azimuthal angle between the directions of each jet and the muon. The data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb[superscript −1]. The measured cross sections are compared to predictions from Monte Carlo generators, MadGraph + pythia and sherpa, and to next-to-leading-order calculations from BlackHat + sherpa. The differential cross sections are found to be in agreement with the predictions, apart from the pT distributions of the leading jets at high pT values, the distributions of the HT at high-HT and low jet multiplicity, and the distribution of the difference in azimuthal angle between the leading jet and the muon at low values.United States. Further distribution of this work must maintain attribution to the author(s) and the published articles title, journal citation, and DOI.A search for physics beyond the standard model in events with at least three leptons is presented. The data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5fb-1 of proton-proton collisions with center-of-mass energy s=8TeV, was collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC during 2012. The data are divided into exclusive categories based on the number of leptons and their flavor, the presence or absence of an opposite-sign, same-flavor lepton pair (OSSF), the invariant mass of the OSSF pair, the presence or absence of a tagged bottom-quark jet, the number of identified hadronically decaying τ leptons, and the magnitude of the missing transverse energy and of the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta. The numbers of observed events are found to be consistent with the expected numbers from standard model processes, and limits are placed on new-physics scenarios that yield multilepton final states. In particular, scenarios that predict Higgs boson production in the context of supersymmetric decay chains are examined. We also place a 95% confidence level upper limit of 1.3% on the branching fraction for the decay of a top quark to a charm quark and a Higgs boson (t→cH), which translates to a bound on the left- and right-handed top-charm flavor-violating Higgs Yukawa couplings, λtcH and λctH, respectively, of |λtcH|2+|λctH|2<0.21

    No full text
Agri-food products whose quality is differentiated are configured as main axes in political and programmatic promotion strategies in territories that are considered marginal from an economic, social, and environmental point of view. These activities, such as the creation of territorial brands, are injecting new dynamics into the territories, strengthening them economically and socially. In Spain and Portugal, and in Extremadura and the Região Centro in particular, there is a long tradition of protecting the quality of agri-food products linked to their origin. Among the existing geographical indications in these two regions, this doctoral thesis has focused on the vital role played by Cereza del Jerte PGI and Torta del Casar PDO, from Extremadura, and Cereja do Fundão PGI and Queijo Serra da Estrela PDO, from the Região Centro, in the sustainability and territorial development of their territories of origin. Methodologically, quantitative and qualitative tools have been used in the period between June 2018 and September 2021, treating the data obtained with different statistical and econometric techniques, providing evidence that allowed a better understanding of the implementation and evolution of the quality policy of the European Union. This analysis has made it possible to verify whether the contribution of the synergistic effects produced by the combination between quality agri-food products and the establishment of territorial brands, exert a positive effect on the tourism sector and contribute to sustainable territorial development in the regions of Extremadura and Centro
