Rubrics and self-assessment scripts effects on self-regulation, learning and self-efficacy in secondary education
This study compares the effects of two different self-assessment tools – rubrics and scripts – on self-regulation, learning and self-efficacy in interaction with two other independent variables (type of instructions and feedback). A total of 120 secondary school students analyzed landscapes – a usual task when studying Geography – in one of twelve experimental conditions (process/performance instructions × control/rubric/script self-assessment tools × mastery/performance feedback) through three trials. Self-regulation was measured through questionnaire and thinking aloud protocols. The results of repeated-measure ANOVA showed that scripts enhanced self-regulation more than rubrics and the control group, and that the use of the two self-assessment tools increased learning over the control group. However, most interactions were not significant. On the nature of motivational orientations: implications of assessed goals and gender differences for motivational goal theory
In a historical revision of the achievement goal construct, Elliot (2005) recognized that there is little consensus on whether
the term “goal” in “achievement goal orientations” (GO) is best represented as an “aim”, as an overarching orientation
encompassing several “aims”, or as a combination of aims and other processes -self-regulation, etc.-. Elliot pointed also
that goal theory research provides evidence for different models of GO. As there were no consensus on these issues, we
decided to get evidence about the nature and structure of GO, about the role of gender differences in the configuration
of such structure, and about relations between GO, expectancies, volitional processes and achievement. A total of 382
university students from different faculties of two public universities of Madrid (Spain) that voluntarily accepted to fill in
a questionnaire that assessed different goals, expectancies and self-regulatory processes participated in the study. Scales
reliability, confirmatory factor analyses, multiple-group analyses, and correlation and regression analyses were carried out.
Results support the trichotomous model of GO, the consideration of GO as a combination of aims and other psychological
processes, showed some gender differences and favour the adoption of a multiple goal perspective for explaining students’

From samples of the Paleozoic Tamatán Group (Huizachal–Peregrina Anticlinorium, Tamaulipas, Mexico), petrographic (qualitative and modal) and geochemical analyses (major, trace, and rare earth elements) were conducted. The first U–Pb geochronological data on detrital zircons of the Tamatán Group were generated using four samples. The data presented here contains a broad overview of photomicrography, recalculated modal point-count data, raw geochemical data, and simple statistics of selected geochemical parameters. The 2011 October Draconids outburst. I. Orbital elements, meteoroid fluxes and 21P/Giacobini-Zinner delivered mass to Earth
On October 8th, 2011 the Earth crossed the dust trails left by comet
21P/Giacobini-Zinner during its XIX and XX century perihelion approaches with
the comet being close to perihelion. The geometric circumstances of that
encounter were thus favorable to produce a meteor storm, but the trails were
much older than in the 1933 and 1946 historical encounters. As a consequence
the 2011 October Draconid display exhibited several activity peaks with
Zenithal Hourly Rates of about 400 meteors per hour. In fact, if the display
had been not forecasted, it could have passed almost unnoticed as was strongly
attenuated for visual observers due to the Moon. This suggests that most meteor
storms of a similar nature could have passed historically unnoticed under
unfavorable weather and Moon observing conditions. The possibility of obtaining
information on the physical properties of cometary meteoroids penetrating the
atmosphere under low-geocentric velocity encounter circumstances motivated us
to set up a special observing campaign. Added to the Spanish Fireball Network
wide-field all-sky and CCD video monitoring, other high-sensitivity 1/2" black
and white CCD video cameras were attached to modified medium-field lenses for
obtaining high resolution orbital information. The trajectory, radiant, and
orbital data of 16 October Draconid meteors observed at multiple stations are
presented. The results show that the meteors appeared from a geocentric radiant
located at R.A.=263.0+-0.4 deg. and Dec.=+55.3+-0.3 deg. that is in close
agreement with the radiant predicted for the 1873-1894 and the 1900 dust
trails. The estimated mass of material from 21P/Giacobini-Zinner delivered to

Proteomic profiling of stallion spermatozoa suggests changes in sperm metabolism and compromised redox regulation after cryopreservation
Proteomic technologies allow the detection of thousands of proteins at the same time, being a powerful technique to reveal molecular regulatory mechanisms in spermatozoa and also sperm damage linked to low fertility or specific biotechnologies. Modifications induced by the cryopreservation in the stallion sperm proteome were studied using UHPLC/MS/MS. Ejaculates from fertile stallions were collected and split in two subsamples, one was investigated as fresh (control) samples, and the other aliquot frozen and thawed using standard procedures and investigated as frozen thawed subsamples. UHPLC/MS/MS was used to study the sperm proteome under these two distinct conditions and bioinformatic enrichment analysis conducted. Gene Ontology (GO) and pathway enrichment analysis were performed revealing dramatic changes as consequence of cryopreservation. The terms oxidative phosphorylation, mitochondrial ATP synthesis coupled electron transport and electron transport chain were significantly enriched in fresh samples (P = 5.50 × 10−12, 4.26 × 10−8 and 7.26 × 10–8, respectively), while were not significantly enriched in frozen thawed samples (P = 1). The GO terms oxidation reduction process and oxidoreductase activity were enriched in fresh samples and the enrichment was reduced in frozen thawed samples (1.40 × 10−8, 1.69 × 10−6 versus 1.13 × 10−2 and 2-86 × 10−2 respectively). Reactome pathways (using human orthologs) significantly enriched in fresh sperm were TCA cycle and respiratory electron transport (P = 1.867 × 10−8), Respiratory electron transport ATP synthesis by chemiosmosis coupling (P = 2.124 × 10−5), Citric acid cycle (TCA cycle)(P = 8.395 × 10−4) Pyruvate metabolism and TCA cycle (P = 3.380 × 10−3), Respiratory electron transport (P = 2.764 × 10−2) and Beta oxidation of laurolyl-CoA to decanoyl CoA-CoA (P = 1.854 × 10−2) none of these pathways were enriched in thawed samples (P = 1). We have provided the first detailed study on how the cryopreservation process impacts the stallion sperm proteome. Our findings identify the metabolic proteome and redoxome as the two key groups of proteins affected by the procedure. Significance: In the present manuscript we investigated how the cryopreservation of stallion spermatozoa impacts the proteome of these cells. This procedure is routinely used in horse breeding and has a major impact in the industry, facilitating the trade of genetic material. This is still a suboptimal biotechnology, with numerous unresolved problems. The limited knowledge of the molecular insults occurring during cryopreservation is behind these problems. The application and development of proteomics to the spermatozoa, allow to obtain valuable information of the specific mechanisms affected by the procedure. In this paper, we report that cryopreservation impacts numerous proteins involved in metabolism regulation (mainly mitochondrial proteins involved in the TCA cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation) and also affects proteins with oxidoreductase activity. Moreover, specific proteins involved in the sperm-oocyte interaction are also affected by the procedure. The information gathered in this study, opens interesting questions and offer new lines of research for the improvement of the technology focusing the targets here identified, and the specific steps in the procedure (cooling, toxicity of antioxidants etc.) to be modified to reduce the damage

Observations of the dust and gas around embedded stellar clusters reveal some
of the processes involved in their formation and evolution. Large scale mass
infall with rates dM/dt=4e-4 solar masses/year is found to be disrupted on
small scales by protostellar outflows. Observations of the size and velocity
dispersion of clusters suggest that protostellar migration from their
birthplace begins at very early times and is a potentially useful evolutionary

Structured feedback on students’ concept maps: the proverbial path to learning?
Good conceptual knowledge is an essential requirement for health professions students, in that they are required to apply concepts learned in the classroom to a variety of different contexts. However, the use of traditional methods of assessment limits the educator’s ability to correct students’ conceptual knowledge prior to altering the educational context. Concept mapping (CM) is an educational tool for evaluating conceptual knowledge, but little is known about its use in facilitating the development of richer knowledge frameworks. In addition, structured feedback has the potential to develop good conceptual knowledge. The purpose of this study was to use Kinchin’s criteria to assess the impact of structured feedback on the graphical complexity of CM’s by observing the development of richer knowledge frameworks. Fifty-eight physiotherapy students created CM’s targeting the integration of two knowledge domains within a case-based teaching paradigm. Each student received one round of structured feedback that addressed correction, reinforcement, forensic diagnosis, benchmarking, and longitudinal development on their CM’s prior to the final submission. The concept maps were categorized according to Kinchin’s criteria as either Spoke, Chain or Net representations, and then evaluated against defined traits of meaningful learning. The inter-rater reliability of categorizing CM’s was good. Pre-feedback CM’s were predominantly Chain structures (57%), with Net structures appearing least often. There was a significant reduction of the basic Spoke- structured CMs (P = 0.002) and a significant increase of Net-structured maps (P < 0.001) at the final evaluation (post-feedback). Changes in structural complexity of CMs appeared to be indicative of broader knowledge frameworks as assessed against the meaningful learning traits. Feedback on CM’s seemed to have contributed towards improving conceptual knowledge and correcting naive conceptions of related knowledge. Educators in medical education could therefore consider using CM’s to target individual student development

Ambient Intelligence (AmI), based on ubiquitous computing, represents the most promising approach between people and technology to solve the challenge of developing strategies that allow the early detection and prevention of problems in automated dependence environments. One of the most influenced areas by AmI-based systems will be security and, more specifically, the protection of people under risk situations, including cases of mistreatment or loss. This will contribute to improve important aspects of the quality of life of these people, specially their safety. Measurement of the cross-section and charge asymmetry of bosons produced in proton-proton collisions at TeV with the ATLAS detector
This paper presents measurements of the and cross-sections and the associated charge asymmetry as a
function of the absolute pseudorapidity of the decay muon. The data were
collected in proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with
the ATLAS experiment at the LHC and correspond to a total integrated luminosity
of 20.2~\mbox{fb^{-1}}. The precision of the cross-section measurements
varies between 0.8% to 1.5% as a function of the pseudorapidity, excluding the
1.9% uncertainty on the integrated luminosity. The charge asymmetry is measured
with an uncertainty between 0.002 and 0.003. The results are compared with
predictions based on next-to-next-to-leading-order calculations with various
parton distribution functions and have the sensitivity to discriminate between

Search for chargino-neutralino production with mass splittings near the electroweak scale in three-lepton final states in √s=13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for supersymmetry through the pair production of electroweakinos with mass splittings near the electroweak scale and decaying via on-shell W and Z bosons is presented for a three-lepton final state. The analyzed proton-proton collision data taken at a center-of-mass energy of √s=13 TeV were collected between 2015 and 2018 by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1. A search, emulating the recursive jigsaw reconstruction technique with easily reproducible laboratory-frame variables, is performed. The two excesses observed in the 2015–2016 data recursive jigsaw analysis in the low-mass three-lepton phase space are reproduced. Results with the full data set are in agreement with the Standard Model expectations. They are interpreted to set exclusion limits at the 95% confidence level on simplified models of chargino-neutralino pair production for masses up to 345 GeV
