APPLICATION OF PHOTOGRAMMETRY TO BRAIN ANATOMY

This paper presents an on-going interdisciplinary collaboration to advance brain connectivity studies. Despite the evolution of noninvasive methods to investigate the brain connectivity structure using the diffusion magnetic resonance, in the neuroscientific community there is an open debate how to collect quantitative information of the main neuroanatomical tracts. Information on the structure and main pathways of brain's white matter are generally derived by manual dissection of the brain ex-vivo. This paper wants to present a photogrammetric method developed to support the collection of metric information of the main pathways, or set of fibres, of the white matter of brain. For this purpose, multi-temporal photogrammetric acquisitions, with a resolution better than 100 microns, are performed at different stages of the brain's dissection, and the derived dense point clouds are used to annotate the stem, i.e., the region where there is a greater density of fibres of a given pathway, and termination points of several neuroanatomical tracts, i.e. fibres

Association between thyroid function and regorafenib efficacy in patients with relapsed wild-type IDH glioblastoma: a large multicenter study

Purpose: Regorafenib demonstrated encouraging results in recurrent glioblastoma patients. Some studies showed that changes in circulating thyroid hormones (fT3, fT4, fT3/fT4 ratio) can be considered as prognostic factors in patients with various types of tumors. We designed this study to investigate the relationship between baseline thyroid variables and outcome in IDH-wild type GBM patients who were treated with regorafenib. Methods: This multicenter retrospective study included recurrent IDH-wild-type glioblastoma patients treated with regorafenib. Only patients with baseline thyroid function values (TSH, fT3, fT4, fT3/fT4 ratio) available were evaluated. RANO criteria were used to analyze neuroradiological response. Survival curves were estimated using the Kaplan–Meier method. The relationships between baseline thyroid variables (TSH, fT3, fT4, fT3/fT4) and survival (PFS, OS) were investigated with Cox regression models. Results: From November 2015 to April 2022, 134 recurrent IDH-wildtype GBM patients were treated with regorafenib and 128 of these had information on baseline thyroid function value. Median follow-up was 8 months (IQR 4.7–14.0). Objective Response Rate was 9% and Disease Control Rate was 40.9%. Median PFS was 2.7 months (95%CI 2.2–3.6) and median OS was 10.0 months (95%CI 7.0–13.0). Lower baseline TSH value in the blood was correlated with a higher rate of disease progression to regorafenib (p = 0.04). Multivariable analyses suggested a non-linear relationship between PFS (p = 0.01) and OS (p = 0.03) with baseline fT3/fT4 ratio. Conclusion: In recurrent wild-type IDH glioblastoma patients, baseline fT3/fT4 ratio showed a non-linear relationship with survival, with different impacts across the spectrum of fT3/fT4 ratio. Moreover, baseline TSH may be a predictor of regorafenib activity

I patrimoni dei senatori nel suburbio di Roma : criteri di ricerca epigrafica, primi risultati e nuove acquisizioni

Le uillae dei dintorni di Roma erano tra i beni immobiliari più ambiti dai senatori. Si presentavano come residenze di campagna per possidenti particolarmente facoltosi, quasi sempre ai vertici della piramide sociale. Si differenziavano dalle domus, abitazioni cittadine dei medesimi, sia in quanto centri di produzione economica, sia per una specifica monumentalità, alternativa e non subalterna a quella della città, personalizzata da scelte decorative accessorie, che esaltavano la piacevolezza di un priuatum esclusivo, in cui il dominus esercitava in pieno le funzioni inerenti al titolo. Il loro studio rientra in un lavoro d’indagine, avviato già da qualche tempo. Utilizzando le iscrizioni, s’intende esaminare le diverse articolazioni •residenziali, produttive e sacre •delle proprietà terriere, allo scopo di ricostruire una mappa catastale della fascia intorno a Roma, che sia compresa tra le mura aureliane e il limite massimo di 20 chilometri di distanza dal centro. Dai risultati finora ottenuti appare che tali beni furono intestati in percentuale maggiore a membri del senato o a loro famigliari ma solo per una minoranza di costoro si può essere sicuri di avere sovrapposto con buon grado di probabilità l’onomastica all’evidenza archeologica; nella maggioranza dei casi l’ubicazione rimane necessariamente indicativa. Qualche novità si è aggiunta analizzando il rapporto tra possessores e sacra. Il totale raggiunto finora comprende 68 senatori titolari di praedia nei dintorni di Roma, dai quali è possibile estrapolare 12 clarissimae feminae.Les uillae des alentours de Rome comptaient parmi les biens immobiliers les plus recherchés des sénateurs. Résidences de campagne des propriétaires particulièrement riches, presque toujours au sommet de la pyramide sociale, elles se différenciaient des domus, maisons de ville des mêmes personnages, par leur rôle de centre de production et par un faste monumental spécifique, différent mais non inférieur à celui de la ville, caractérisé par le choix de décors qui exaltaient l’agrément d’un priuatum réservé à une élite, où le dominus exercait pleinement les fonctions liées à son titre. Une enquête, engagée déjà depuis un certain temps, examine, en utilisant les inscriptions, les différents aspects - résidentiels, économiques, sacrés - d’une propriété rurale. Elle a pour objectif de dresser la carte cadastrale d’une couronne autour de Rome comprise entre les murs auréliens et un rayon maximal de 20 km à partir du centre. Les résultats obtenus jusqu’ici montrent que, si les membres du Sénat ou leur famille représentaient le plus grand pourcentage des titulaires de ces biens, c’est seulement pour une minorité d’entre eux que l’on peut faire correspondre avec un bon degré de probabilité onomastique et vestiges archéologiques: dans la plupart des cas, la localisation est de l’ordre de l’indication. L’analyse des rapports entre possessores et sacra a produit récemment quelques nouveautés. Richiamando l’attenzione su un’iscrizione già nota, se ne riesamina il contenuto per approfondire  il significato dei vocaboli gemella e soror.  L’analisi porta a stabilire una relazione tra le Clodiae, sorelle gemellecitate nel testo, ed il culto oracolare praticato ad Anzio dalle sorores menzionate da Marziale, identificabili con le Fortunae Antiatinae, di cui parla Svetonio. La successiva rassegna delle fonti letterarie sull’argomento conduce a formulare l’ipotesi che un simulacrum di queste dee, impersonate da giovani profetesse, possa riconoscersi nella famosa statua della “Fanciulla di Anzio”
