    The individually named authors work collectively as The BABAR Collaboration. Copyright @ 2012 American Physical Society.Although CP violation in the B meson system has been well established by the B factories, there has been no direct observation of time-reversal violation. The decays of entangled neutral B mesons into definite flavor states (B0 or B¯¯¯0), and J/ψK0L or cc¯K0S final states (referred to as B+ or B−), allow comparisons between the probabilities of four pairs of T-conjugated transitions, for example, B¯¯¯0→B− and B−→B¯¯¯0, as a function of the time difference between the two B decays. Using 468×106 BB¯¯¯ pairs produced in Υ(4S) decays collected by the BABAR detector at SLAC, we measure T-violating parameters in the time evolution of neutral B mesons, yielding ΔS+T=−1.37±0.14(stat)±0.06(syst) and ΔS−T=1.17±0.18(stat)±0.11(syst). These nonzero results represent the first direct observation of T violation through the exchange of initial and final states in transitions that can only be connected by a T-symmetry transformation.DOE and NSF (USA), NSERC (Canada), CEA and CNRS-IN2P3 (France), BMBF and DFG(Germany), INFN (Italy), FOM (The Netherlands), NFR (Norway), MES (Russia), MINECO (Spain), STFC (United Kingdom). Measurement of the cross-section for electroweak production of dijets in association with a Z boson in pp collisions at s√=13TeV with the ATLAS detector

    Get PDF
    The cross-section for the production of two jets in association with a leptonically decaying Z boson (Zjj) is measured in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, using data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb−1. The electroweak Zjj cross-section is extracted in a fiducial region chosen to enhance the electroweak contribution relative to the dominant Drell–Yan Zjj process, which is constrained using a data-driven approach. The measured fiducial electroweak cross-section is σEW Zjj = 119±16(stat.)±20(syst.)±2(lumi.) fb for dijet invariant mass greater than 250 GeV, and 34.2±5.8(stat.)±5.5(syst.)±0.7(lumi.) fb for dijet invariant mass greater than 1 TeV. Standard Model predictions are in agreement with the measurements. The inclusive Zjj cross-section is also measured in six different fiducial regions with varying contributions from electroweak and Drell–Yan Zjj production

    Measurement of the B -> (D)over-bar(()*()) D(()*()) K branching fractions

    We present a measurement of the branching fractions of the 22 decay channels of the B(0) and B(+) mesons to (D) over bar (()*()) D(()*()) K, where the D(()*()) and (D) over bar (()*()) mesons are fully reconstructed. Summing the 10 neutral modes and the 12 charged modes, the branching fractions are found to be B(B(0) -> (D) over bar (()*()) D(()*()) K) = (3.68 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.24)% and B(B(+) -> (D) over bar (()*()) D(()*()) K) = (4.05 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.28)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The results are based on 429 fb(-1) of data containing 471 X 10(6)B (B) over bar pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory

    15 pages, 6 figures, 6 tables, presented at ICHEP 2010We report preliminary results from a study of the decay B0 --> D0bar pi+ pi- using a data sample of 470.9 +/- 2.8 million BBbar events collected with the BaBar detector at the Y(4S) resonance. Using the Dalitz-plot analysis technique, we find contributions from the intermediate resonances D*_2(2460)-, D*_0(2400)-, rho(770)0 and f_2(1270) as well as a pi+ pi- S-wave term, a D0bar pi- nonresonant S-wave term and a virtual D*(2010)- amplitude. We measure the branching fractions of the contributing decays

    Evidence for B+ --> tau+ nu_tau decays using hadronic B tags

    10 pages, 7 postscript figures, contributed to 35th International Conference on High Energy Physics, July 22-28, Paris (ICHEP 2010)We present a search for the decay B+ --> tau+ nu_tau using 467.8 x 10^6 B B-bar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B-Factory. We select a sample of events with one completely reconstructed B- in an hadronic decay mode (B- --> D{(*)0}X- and B- --> J/psi X-). We examine the rest of the event to search for a B+ --> tau+ nu_tau decay. We identify the tau+ lepton in the following modes: tau+ --> e+ nu nu, tau+ --> mu+ nu nu, tau+ --> pi+ nu and tau+ --> rho nu. We find an excess of events with respect to expected background, which excludes the null signal hypothesis at the level of 3.3 sigma and can be converted to a branching fraction central value of B( B+ --> tau+ nu_tau )=( 1.80 +0.57 -0.54 (stat.) +-0.26 (syst.)) x 10^{-4}

    Search for the Lepton-Flavor Violating Decays Upsilon(3S) -> e tau and Upsilon(3S) -> mu tau

    15 pages, 4 postscript figures, submitted to QWG6Charged lepton-flavor violating processes are extremely rare in the Standard Model, but they may occur in several beyond-the-Standard Model theories, including Supersymmetry or models with leptoquarks or compositeness. We present a search for such processes in a sample of 117M Upsilon(3S) decays recorded with the BaBar detector. We place upper limits on the branching fractions BF(Upsilon(3S) -> e tau) mu tau) < 4.1e-6 at 90% confidence level. These results are used to place lower limits on the mass scale of beyond-the-Standard Model physics contributing to lepton-flavor violating decays of the Upsilon(3S)

    Search for WH production with a light Higgs boson decaying to prompt electron-jets in proton-proton collisions at s\sqrt{s}=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    Get PDF
    A search is performed for WH production with a light Higgs boson decaying to hidden-sector particles resulting in clusters of collimated electrons, known as electron-jets. The search is performed with 2.04 fb-1 of data collected in 2011 with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at s\sqrt{s}=7 TeV. One event satisfying the signal selection criteria is observed, which is consistent with the expected background rate. Limits on the product of the WH production cross section and the branching ratio of a Higgs boson decaying to prompt electron-jets are calculated as a function of a Higgs boson mass in the range from 100 GeV to 140 GeV.Peer Reviewe

    Search for top and bottom squarks from gluino pair production in final states with missing transverse energy and at least three b-jets with the ATLAS detector

    No full text
    This letter reports the results of a search for top and bottom squarks from gluino pair production in 4. 7 fb -1 of pp collisions at √s =7 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The search is performed in events with large missing transverse momentum and at least three jets identified as originating from a b-quark. Exclusion limits are presented for a variety of gluino-mediated models with gluino masses up to 1 TeV excluded. © 2012 CERN for the benefit of the ATLAS collaboration
