    Multiplicação e enraizamento in vitro da amoreira preta cv. Xavante

    O presente trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar o efeito da 6-benzilaminopurina (BAP) na multiplicação de brotações e de diferentes meios de cultura no enraizamento in vitro da amoreira-preta cv. Xavante. O primeiro experimento foi constituído por três concentrações de BAP (0, 1 e 5 ?M) em meio de cultura MS. O segundo experimento foi constituído pelo cultivo em meio de cultura com BAP (0, 10 e 20 ?M) por 7 dias, com posterior transferência para meio de cultura isento de reguladores por mais 28 dias. Para o enraizamento in vitro testaram-se quatro meios de cultura (meio MS semissólido; meio MS semissólido com adição de carvão ativado; meio MS líquido com adição de vermiculita; e meio MS líquido com adição de blocos de espuma fenólica). As plantas dos tratamentos de enraizamento in vitro foram submetidas a aclimatização. Concluiu-se que a adição de 5 ?M BAP ao meio de cultura MS é eficaz na multiplicação de brotações da amoreira preta cv. Xavante. Para o enraizamento in vitro recomenda-se o meio de cultura MS líquido com vermiculita. As plantas de amoreira preta cv. Xavante apresentam facilidade para o enraizamento e aclimatização

    White Matter Deterioration May Foreshadow Impairment of Emotional Valence Determination in Early-Stage Dementia of the Alzheimer Type

    In Alzheimer Disease (AD), non-verbal skills often remain intact for far longer than verbally mediated processes. Four (1 female, 3 males) participants with early-stage Clinically Diagnosed Dementia of the Alzheimer Type (CDDAT) and eight neurotypicals (NTs; 4 females, 4 males) completed the emotional valence determination test (EVDT) while undergoing BOLD functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). We expected CDDAT participants to perform just as well as NTs on the EVDT, and to display increased activity within the bilateral amygdala and right anterior cingulate cortex (r-ACC). We hypothesized that such activity would reflect an increased reliance on these structures to compensate for on-going neuronal loss in frontoparietal regions due to the disease. We used diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) to determine if white matter (WM) damage had occurred in frontoparietal regions as well. CDDAT participants had similar behavioral performance and no differences were observed in brain activity or connectivity patterns within the amygdalae or r-ACC. Decreased fractional anisotropy (FA) values were noted, however, for the bilateral superior longitudinal fasciculi and posterior cingulate cortex (PCC). We interpret these findings to suggest that emotional valence determination and non-verbal skill sets are largely intact at this stage of the disease, but signs foreshadowing future decline were revealed by possible WM deterioration. Understanding how non-verbal skill sets are altered, while remaining largely intact, offers new insights into how non-verbal communication may be more successfully implemented in the care of AD patients and highlights the potential role of DTI as a presymptomatic biomarker

    O presente artigo tem por intenção apresentar um plano de unidade realizado nas aulas de Educação Física com turmas do ensino médio integrado de uma instituição federal de ensino, considerando a referência teórico-metodológica do materialismo histórico dialético. Nessa perspectiva, foi desenvolvido um conjunto de aulas para trabalhar o conteúdo das relações e especificidades da atividade física, saúde e as influências da mídia, que impõem, por meio do culto exagerado ao corpo (corpolatria), formas de consumo que vão desde produtos e equipamentos até um estilo de vida idealizado como saudável, de caráter extremamente individualista ou, em outras palavras, a partir da “individualidade em si”. Nesse sentido, foi possível realizar um contraponto, referenciado na pedagogia histórico-crítica, mostrando aos alunos a necessidade de se lutar por uma “individualidade para si”, que só pode ser feita de forma coletiva, na busca da construção da sociedade socialista.http://dx.doi.org/10.14572/nuances.v27i1.395

    Re-theorising the core: a ‘globalized’ business elite in Santiago, Chile

    World systems theory continues to be a widely adopted approach in theorisations of the contemporary world economy. An important epistemological component to world systems theory is the metaphor of core-periphery. Recent work within the approach has sought to transcend earlier criticisms of regional conceptions of cores, peripheries and semi-peripheries by an increasing sensitivity to local differences and an increasing emphasis on Wallerstein's original idea of core-periphery as process, operating at all scales in the contemporary world system. However, this paper argues that the core-periphery metaphor currently used by world systems theorists is founded around a restrictively narrow spatial epistemology. Such a narrow epistemology implements the core-periphery metaphor only as something which produces territorial outcomes in the physical world. This paper contends that recent work within the social services, concerned with the globalization debate and issues of spatial epistemology, should inform world systems theory in producing a reformulated spatial understanding of the core-periphery metaphor, embodying a wider conception of space to include abstract social spaces. This argument is developed in the notion that the world economy must also be understood as having a ‘social core’: a transnational diasporic business elite exercising decision-making power over the capitalist world system.     AnuraSet: A dataset for benchmarking Neotropical anuran calls identification in passive acoustic monitoring

    Global change is predicted to induce shifts in anuran acoustic behavior, which can be studied through passive acoustic monitoring (PAM). Understanding changes in calling behavior requires the identification of anuran species, which is challenging due to the particular characteristics of neotropical soundscapes. In this paper, we introduce a large-scale multi-species dataset of anuran amphibians calls recorded by PAM, that comprises 27 hours of expert annotations for 42 different species from two Brazilian biomes. We provide open access to the dataset, including the raw recordings, experimental setup code, and a benchmark with a baseline model of the fine-grained categorization problem. Additionally, we highlight the challenges of the dataset to encourage machine learning researchers to solve the problem of anuran call identification towards conservation policy.     Prevalence of Therapeutic use of Opioids in Chronic non-Cancer Pain Patients and Associated Factors: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    Objectives: To determine the prevalence and factors associated with the use of opioids among patients with chronic non-cancer pain (CNCP). Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis. Comprehensive literature searches in Medline-PubMed, Embase and SCOPUS databases. Original studies published between 2009 and 2019 with a cross-sectional design were included. The quality of the studies was assessed with Critical Appraisal Checklist for Studies Reporting Prevalence Data from the Joanna Briggs Institute. Protocol registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews with reference number: CRD42019137990. Results: Out of the 1,310 potential studies found, 25 studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Most of the studies were of high quality. High levels of heterogeneity were found in the studies included. In the general population, the prevalence of long-term opioid use was 2.3% (95% CI: 1.5-3.6%), the prevalence of short-term opioid use was 8.1% (95% CI: 5.6-11.6%), and among people with chronic low back pain it was 5.8% (95% CI: 0.5-45.5%). The prevalence of opioid use among patients from the health records or medical surveys was 41% (95% CI: 23.3-61.3%). Finally, in patients with musculoskeletal pain, the prevalence was 20.5% (95% CI: 12.9-30.9%) and in patients with fibromyalgia, 24.5% (95% CI: 22.9-26.2%). A higher prevalence of opioid use was observed among men, younger people, patients receiving prescriptions of different types of drugs, smokers and patients without insurance or with noncommercial insurance. In addition, non-white and Asian patients were less likely to receive opioids than non-Hispanic white patients. Conclusions: The prevalence of opioid use among patients with CNCP was higher in subjects with short or occasional use compared to those with long-term use. Men, younger people, more chronic pain conditions, and patients without insurance or with noncommercial insurance were most related to opioid use. However, non-white and Asian patients, and those treated by a physician trained in complementary medicine were less likely to use opioids

    The Fourteenth Data Release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey: First Spectroscopic Data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey and from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment

    The fourth generation of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-IV) has been in operation since July 2014. This paper describes the second data release from this phase, and the fourteenth from SDSS overall (making this, Data Release Fourteen or DR14). This release makes public data taken by SDSS-IV in its first two years of operation (July 2014-2016). Like all previous SDSS releases, DR14 is cumulative, including the most recent reductions and calibrations of all data taken by SDSS since the first phase began operations in 2000. New in DR14 is the first public release of data from the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS); the first data from the second phase of the Apache Point Observatory (APO) Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2), including stellar parameter estimates from an innovative data driven machine learning algorithm known as "The Cannon"; and almost twice as many data cubes from the Mapping Nearby Galaxies at APO (MaNGA) survey as were in the previous release (N = 2812 in total). This paper describes the location and format of the publicly available data from SDSS-IV surveys. We provide references to the important technical papers describing how these data have been taken (both targeting and observation details) and processed for scientific use. The SDSS website (www.sdss.org) has been updated for this release, and provides links to data downloads, as well as tutorials and examples of data use. SDSS-IV is planning to continue to collect astronomical data until 2020, and will be followed by SDSS-V.Comment: SDSS-IV collaboration alphabetical author data release paper.
