The Laplace transform is an analysis tool widely used in the engineering professions. This work focuses on a first study of a corpus of texts - teaching books and articles from technical journals - produced by actors, including former professionals and teachers, for technical training and education. The applications put forward give indications of adaptation and even appropriation of knowledge for certain professions, such as the production of original tables that are much more complete than the very synthetic ones in strictly mathematical texts

    [Departement_IRSTEA]Territoires [TR1_IRSTEA]SYNERGIEInternational audienceAnalyzing microarrays data is still a great challenge since existing methods produce huge amounts of useless results. We propose a new method called NoDisco for discovering novelties in gene sequences obtained by applying data-mining techniques to microarray data. Method: We identify popular genes, which are often cited in the literature, and innovative genes, which are linked to the popular genes in the sequences but are not mentioned in the literature. We also identify popular and innovative sequences containing these genes. Biologists can thus select interesting sequences from the two sets and obtain the k-best documents. Results: We show the efficiency of this method by applying it on real data used to decipher the mechanisms underlying Alzheimer disease. Conclusion: The first selection of sequences based on popularity and innovation help experts focus on relevant sequences while the top-k documents help them understand the sequences

    Search for the standard model Higgs boson in tau final states

    Get PDF
    We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson using hadronically decaying tau leptons, in 1 inverse femtobarn of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider. We select two final states: tau plus missing transverse energy and b jets, and tau+ tau- plus jets. These final states are sensitive to a combination of associated W/Z boson plus Higgs boson, vector boson fusion and gluon-gluon fusion production processes. The observed ratio of the combined limit on the Higgs production cross section at the 95% C.L. to the standard model expectation is 29 for a Higgs boson mass of 115 GeV.Comment: publication versio

    Measurement of the p-pbar -> Wgamma + X cross section at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV and WWgamma anomalous coupling limits

    Full text link
    The WWgamma triple gauge boson coupling parameters are studied using p-pbar -> l nu gamma + X (l = e,mu) events at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV. The data were collected with the DO detector from an integrated luminosity of 162 pb^{-1} delivered by the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The cross section times branching fraction for p-pbar -> W(gamma) + X -> l nu gamma + X with E_T^{gamma} > 8 GeV and Delta R_{l gamma} > 0.7 is 14.8 +/- 1.6 (stat) +/- 1.0 (syst) +/- 1.0 (lum) pb. The one-dimensional 95% confidence level limits on anomalous couplings are -0.88 < Delta kappa_{gamma} < 0.96 and -0.20 < lambda_{gamma} < 0.20.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Rev. D Rapid Communication

    Search for W' bosons decaying to an electron and a neutrino with the D0 detector

    This Letter describes the search for a new heavy charged gauge boson W' decaying into an electron and a neutrino. The data were collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton Collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of about 1 inverse femtobarn. Lacking any significant excess in the data in comparison with known processes, an upper limit is set on the production cross section times branching fraction, and a W' boson with mass below 1.00 TeV can be excluded at the 95% C.L., assuming standard-model-like couplings to fermions. This result significantly improves upon previous limits, and is the most stringent to date.Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev. Let

    Search for the associated production of a b quark and a neutral supersymmetric Higgs boson which decays to tau pairs

    Get PDF
    We report results from a search for production of a neutral Higgs boson in association with a bb quark. We search for Higgs decays to τ\tau pairs with one τ\tau subsequently decaying to a muon and the other to hadrons. The data correspond to 2.7fb1^{-1} of \ppbar collisions recorded by the D0 detector at s=1.96\sqrt{s} = 1.96TeV. The data are found to be consistent with background predictions. The result allows us to exclude a significant region of parameter space of the minimal supersymmetric model.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Rev. Letter

    Septin 9 isoform expression, localization and epigenetic changes during human and mouse breast cancer progression

    International audienceABSTRACT: INTRODUCTION: Altered expression of Septin 9 (SEPT9), a septin coding for multiple isoform variants, has been observed in several carcinomas including colorectal, head and neck, ovarian and breast, compared to normal tissue. Mechanisms regulating its expression during tumor initiation and progression in vivo and the oncogenic function of its different isoforms remain elusive. METHODS: Using an integrative approach, we investigated SEPT9 at the genetic, epigenetic, mRNA, and protein levels in breast cancer. We analyzed a panel of breast cancer cell lines, human primary tumors and corresponding tumor-free areas, normal breast from reduction mammoplasty patients, as well as primary mammary gland adenocarcinomas derived from the Polyoma Virus Middle T antigen mouse model (PyMT). MCF7 clones expressing individual GFP-tagged SEPT9 isoforms were used to determine their respective intracellular distribution and affect on cell migration. RESULTS: An overall increase in gene amplification and altered expression of SEPT9 was observed during breast tumorigenesis. We identified an intragenic alternative promoter whose methylation regulates SEPT9_v3 expression. Transfection of specific GFP-SEPT9 isoforms in MCF7 cells indicates that these isoforms exhibit differential localization and affect migration rates. Additionally, the loss of an uncharacterized SEPT9 nucleolar localization is observed during tumorigenesis. CONCLUSIONS: In this study we found conserved in vivo changes of SEPT9 gene amplification and overexpression during human and mouse breast tumorigenesis. We show that DNA methylation is a prominent mechanism responsible for regulating differential SEPT9 isoform expression and that breast tumor samples exhibit distinctive SEPT9 intracellular localization. Together, these findings support the significance of SEPT9 as a promising tool in breast cancer detection and further emphasize the importance of analyzing and targeting SEPT9 isoform specific expression and function

    A measurement of the ratio of inclusive cross sections σ(ppˉZ+bjet)/σ(ppˉZ+jet)\sigma(p\bar{p}\rightarrow Z+b{\rm\, jet})/ \sigma(p\bar{p}\rightarrow Z+{\rm jet}) at s=1.96\sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV

    The ratio of the cross section for ppˉp\bar{p} interactions producing a ZZ boson and at least one bb quark jet to the inclusive Z+jetZ+{\rm jet} cross section is measured using 4.2 fb14.2\ {\rm fb}^{-1} of ppˉp\bar{p} collisions collected with the \dzero\ detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider at s=1.96\sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV. The Z+Z\rightarrow\ell^+\ell^- candidate events with at least one bb jet are discriminated from Z+Z+ charm and light jet(s) events by a novel technique that exploits the properties of the tracks associated to the jet. The measured ratio is 0.0193±0.00270.0193\pm0.0027 for events having a jet with transverse momentum \pt > 20 \GeV and pseudorapidity η2.5|\eta| \leq 2.5, which is the most precise to date and is consistent with theoretical predictions.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Differential cross section measurements for the production of a W boson in association with jets in proton–proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV

    Get PDF
    Measurements are reported of differential cross sections for the production of a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, in association with jets, as a function of several variables, including the transverse momenta (pT) and pseudorapidities of the four leading jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta (HT), and the difference in azimuthal angle between the directions of each jet and the muon. The data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb[superscript −1]. The measured cross sections are compared to predictions from Monte Carlo generators, MadGraph + pythia and sherpa, and to next-to-leading-order calculations from BlackHat + sherpa. The differential cross sections are found to be in agreement with the predictions, apart from the pT distributions of the leading jets at high pT values, the distributions of the HT at high-HT and low jet multiplicity, and the distribution of the difference in azimuthal angle between the leading jet and the muon at low values.United States.
