Current Information Technology Infrastructure for E-Business

    Get PDF
The e-business application can be considered as a new generation of computer information systems in the Internet era that needs the support from a solid information technology infrastructure including strategic objectives, physical components, and operational management. A survey was conducted to investigate some current practices and its implications of the information technology infrastructure existed in thirty organizations from ten different industries located in California. These organizations reported that they have implemented two or more e-business applications using the different types of the network operating systems and network security protections. The most used e-business development method is still the traditional in-house development method that offers the best management planning and controlling strategy to align the overall business and information technology objectives together. The system integration, e-mail system management, and customer relation management have gained their importance in the routine operating functions at the information technology department

E-Government and Lessons from E-Commerce: A Preliminary Study

    Get PDF
As businesses become more involved and savvy with electronic commerce (e-commerce), electronic government (e-government) can learn many lessons from them. The tremendous growth in e-commerce will spur many governments to launch comparable e-government services. The recent passage of federal law in the US has institutionalized e-government. Thus, many government bodies will become greatly involved with the Internet and its associated technologies in providing an array of government services that were once confined to brick and mortar operations. However, in deciding which applications will be most effective in serving their constituents and given their limited resources, governments might learn from the practices of businesses. As in the case of business to business (B2B) e-commerce, the exchange of information within and between government agencies will comprise the bulk of interactions or transactions. The results of a preliminary e-commerce survey suggest several areas that may prove to be more effective for e-government Extranet and Intranet applications

Theoretical prediction of CNT-CF/PP composite tensile properties using various numerical modeling methods

    Get PDF
Development of effective models to predict tensile properties of ‘carbon nanotube coated carbon fibre reinforced polypropylene (CNT-CF/PP)’ composites is briefly discussed. The composite taken as the reference is based on the highest growth mechanism of CNTs over carbon fibres. Halpin-Tsai and Combined Voigt-Reuss model has been implemented. Young's modulus for CNT-CF/PP composites has been found 4.5368 GPa and the tensile strength has been estimated 45.367 MPa considering the optimum operating condition of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technique. Stiffness of the composite is represented through the stress-strain plots; stiffness is proportional to the steepness of the slope. There are slight deviations of results that have been found theoretically over the experimental issues

Purpose: To assess whether polymorphisms of genes related to estrogen biosynthesis and metabolism are associated with EGFR mutations. Experimental Design: We studied 617 patients with lung adenocarcinoma, including 302 never-smoking women. On the basis of multiple candidate genes approach, the effects of polymorphisms of CYP17, CYP19A1, ER alpha, and COMT in association with the occurrence of EGFR mutations were evaluated using logistic regression analysis. Results: In female never-smokers, significant associations with EGFR L858R mutation were found for the tetranucleotide (TTTA)(n) repeats in CYP19A1 (odds ratio, 2.6; 95%CI, 1.2-5.7 for 1 or 2 alleles with (TTTA)(n) repeats > 7 compared with both alleles with (TTTA) n repeats <= 7), and the rs2234693 in ERa (OR, 2.1; 95% CI, 1.1-4.0 for C/T and C/C genotypes compared with T/T genotype). The C/C genotype (vs. T/T genotype) of ERa was significantly associated with EGFR L858R mutation (OR, 3.0; 95% CI, 1.1-8.1), in-frame deletion (OR, 2.9; 95% CI, 1.1-7.6) and other mutations (OR, 4.3; 95% CI, 1.3-14.0). The genotype of COMT rs4680 was significantly associated with EGFR L858R mutation in female and male never-smokers showing OR's (95% CI) of 1.8 (1.0-3.2) and 3.6 (1.1-11.3), respectively, for genotypes G/A and G/G compared with genotype A/A. The number of risk alleles of CYP17, CYP19A1, ERa, and COMT was associated with an increasing OR of EGFR L858R mutation in female never-smokers (P = 0.0002 for trend). Conclusions: The L858R mutation of EGFR is associated with polymorphisms of genes related to estrogen biosynthesis and metabolism in never-smoking female lung adenocarcinoma patients. Azimuthal anisotropy of K0s and Lambda prduction at mid-rapidity from Au+Au collisions at root s = 130 GeV

We report STAR results on the azimuthal anisotropy parameter v2 for strange particles K0S, L and Lbar at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at sNN = 130 GeV at RHIC. The value of v2 as a function of transverse momentum of the produced particles pt and collision centrality is presented for both particles up to pt 3.0 GeV/c. A strong pt dependence in v2 is observed up to 2.0 GeV/c. The v2 measurement is compared with hydrodynamic model calculations. The physics implications of the pt integrated v2 magnitude as a function of particle mass are also discussed.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, by the STAR collaboratio

Assessment of variation in immunosuppressive pathway genes reveals TGFBR2 to be associated with risk of clear cell ovarian cancer.

BACKGROUND: Regulatory T (Treg) cells, a subset of CD4+ T lymphocytes, are mediators of immunosuppression in cancer, and, thus, variants in genes encoding Treg cell immune molecules could be associated with ovarian cancer. METHODS: In a population of 15,596 epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) cases and 23,236 controls, we measured genetic associations of 1,351 SNPs in Treg cell pathway genes with odds of ovarian cancer and tested pathway and gene-level associations, overall and by histotype, for the 25 genes, using the admixture likelihood (AML) method. The most significant single SNP associations were tested for correlation with expression levels in 44 ovarian cancer patients. RESULTS: The most significant global associations for all genes in the pathway were seen in endometrioid ( p = 0.082) and clear cell ( p = 0.083), with the most significant gene level association seen with TGFBR2 ( p = 0.001) and clear cell EOC. Gene associations with histotypes at p < 0.05 included: IL12 ( p = 0.005 and p = 0.008, serous and high-grade serous, respectively), IL8RA ( p = 0.035, endometrioid and mucinous), LGALS1 ( p = 0.03, mucinous), STAT5B ( p = 0.022, clear cell), TGFBR1 ( p = 0.021 endometrioid) and TGFBR2 ( p = 0.017 and p = 0.025, endometrioid and mucinous, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Common inherited gene variation in Treg cell pathways shows some evidence of germline genetic contribution to odds of EOC that varies by histologic subtype and may be associated with mRNA expression of immune-complex receptor in EOC patients

K(892)0K^{\star}(892)^{0} Production in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions at sNN=130\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=130 GeV

We report the first observation of K(892)0πKK^{\star}(892)^{0}\to\pi K in relativistic heavy ion collisions. The transverse momentum spectrum of (K0+Kˉ0)/2(K^{\star0}+\bar{K}^{\star0})/2 from central Au+Au collisions at sNN=130\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=130 GeV is presented. The ratios of the K0K^{\star0} yield derived from these data to the yields of negative hadrons, charged kaons, and ϕ\phi mesons have been measured in central and minimum bias collisions and compared with model predictions and comparable e+ee^{+}e^{-}, pppp, and pˉp\bar{p}p results. The data indicate no dramatic reduction of K0K^{\star0} production in relativistic heavy ion collisions despite expected losses due to rescattering effects.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, To be published in PRC
