    Percepção da assistência pré-natal em gestantes hipertensas durante a pandemia de COVID-19: Perception of prenatal assistance in hypertensive pregnant women during the COVID-19 pandemic

    Objetivo: Descrever a percepção de gestantes hipertensas sobre sua assistência pré-natal durante o período de pandemia de COVID-19. Método: Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva exploratória com abordagem qualitativa, realizada com onze gestantes que vivenciam distúrbios hipertensivos na gestação, durante a pandemia da COVID-19. Resultados: O estudo evidenciou que as gestantes se sentiram seguras, acolhidas e bem orientadas durante o atendimento, contudo apontaram ainda desafios da assistência como a adequação dos espaços e a presença do companheiro, fundamentais para uma assistência mais integral e qualificada às gestantes. Considerações finais: Readequações no modelo de assistência às gestantes hipertensas são necessárias, diante dos desafios da pandemia, fundamentais para uma atenção integral à gestante e sua família

    A Hipomineralização Molar Incisivo (HMI) consiste num defeito qualitativo do esmalte dental caracterizado por lesões que variam de cor branca a marrom e que acomete, principalmente, os primeiros molares e incisivos permanentes. Sua etiologia está relacionada a fatores genéticos e ambientais. O método de estudo de associação em que se utiliza o polimorfismo como marcador para localização de genes candidatos a doenças tem sido comumente empregado na busca de evidências que relacionam a HMI a fatores genéticos. O objetivo deste trabalho é relatar aspectos clínicos, pré, peri e pós-natais de uma paciente de 21 anos diagnosticada com HMI, além de realizar avaliação clínica e genética (polimorfismos no gene ENAM) familiar. Foi realizado avaliação clínica dos pais e coleta de material biológico (saliva) para avaliação e análise do DNA familiar. O pai foi diagnosticado com HMI enquanto a mãe não. As amostras coletadas foram analisadas em PCR em tempo real, sendo genotipado o polimorfismo rs7664896 (C>G) localizado no gene ENAM. A paciente apresentou genótipo CG com herança da condição pelo pai. A paciente apresentou genótipo CG com herança da condição pelo pai. Pode-se inferir a interação entre aspectos ambientais e genéticos na etiologia da HMI da paciente do presente relato. Estudos com amostras maiores, de diferentes etnias e com avaliação de diferentes genes são estimulados para aumentar a robustez das evidências científicas

    ANÁLISE FÍSICO-QUIMICA COMPARATIVA DE SABONETES LÍQUIDOS

    O presente trabalho teve como objetivo realizar testes físico-químicos de duas amostras de sabonete líquido diferentes, a fim de compará-las. As análises foram realizadas no laboratório de química das Faculdades Ponta Grossa (FacPG) e no laboratório de produção de medicamentos (LAPMED) da Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa (UEPG). Os parâmetros físico-químicos analisados foram: densidade através do método da picnometria, viscosidade pelo método do viscosímetro rotacional (Brookfield) e verificação do pH com o auxílio de um peagâmetro digital. As análises das amostras A e B foram realizadas em triplicatas e os resultados obtidos foram comparados com a literatura. Os valores de densidade encontrados foram 1,003 g/cm 3 para a amostra A e 0,6207 g/cm 3 para a amostra B. Os valores de pH e viscosidade encontrados foram, respectivamente 5,76, 6RPM/s 10,69Pa.s, 12RPM/s 8,28Pa.s para a amostra A, e 6,56, 6RPM/s 4,68Pa.s, 12RPM/s 3,59Pa.s para a amostra B. Com a realização das análises físico-químicas pode ser observado uma diferença significativa entre as amostras, sendo a amostra A mais densa, mais viscosa e com o pH mais ácido que a amostra B

    Long-term thermal sensitivity of Earth’s tropical forests

    The sensitivity of tropical forest carbon to climate is a key uncertainty in predicting global climate change. Although short-term drying and warming are known to affect forests, it is unknown if such effects translate into long-term responses. Here, we analyze 590 permanent plots measured across the tropics to derive the equilibrium climate controls on forest carbon. Maximum temperature is the most important predictor of aboveground biomass (−9.1 megagrams of carbon per hectare per degree Celsius), primarily by reducing woody productivity, and has a greater impact per °C in the hottest forests (>32.2°C). Our results nevertheless reveal greater thermal resilience than observations of short-term variation imply. To realize the long-term climate adaptation potential of tropical forests requires both protecting them and stabilizing Earth’s climate

    The global abundance of tree palms

    Aim Palms are an iconic, diverse and often abundant component of tropical ecosystems that provide many ecosystem services. Being monocots, tree palms are evolutionarily, morphologically and physiologically distinct from other trees, and these differences have important consequences for ecosystem services (e.g., carbon sequestration and storage) and in terms of responses to climate change. We quantified global patterns of tree palm relative abundance to help improve understanding of tropical forests and reduce uncertainty about these ecosystems under climate change. Location Tropical and subtropical moist forests. Time period Current. Major taxa studied Palms (Arecaceae). Methods We assembled a pantropical dataset of 2,548 forest plots (covering 1,191 ha) and quantified tree palm (i.e., ≥10 cm diameter at breast height) abundance relative to co‐occurring non‐palm trees. We compared the relative abundance of tree palms across biogeographical realms and tested for associations with palaeoclimate stability, current climate, edaphic conditions and metrics of forest structure. Results On average, the relative abundance of tree palms was more than five times larger between Neotropical locations and other biogeographical realms. Tree palms were absent in most locations outside the Neotropics but present in >80% of Neotropical locations. The relative abundance of tree palms was more strongly associated with local conditions (e.g., higher mean annual precipitation, lower soil fertility, shallower water table and lower plot mean wood density) than metrics of long‐term climate stability. Life‐form diversity also influenced the patterns; palm assemblages outside the Neotropics comprise many non‐tree (e.g., climbing) palms. Finally, we show that tree palms can influence estimates of above‐ground biomass, but the magnitude and direction of the effect require additional work. Conclusions Tree palms are not only quintessentially tropical, but they are also overwhelmingly Neotropical. Future work to understand the contributions of tree palms to biomass estimates and carbon cycling will be particularly crucial in Neotropical forests

    Taking the pulse of Earth's tropical forests using networks of highly distributed plots

    Tropical forests are the most diverse and productive ecosystems on Earth. While better understanding of these forests is critical for our collective future, until quite recently efforts to measure and monitor them have been largely disconnected. Networking is essential to discover the answers to questions that transcend borders and the horizons of funding agencies. Here we show how a global community is responding to the challenges of tropical ecosystem research with diverse teams measuring forests tree-by-tree in thousands of long-term plots. We review the major scientific discoveries of this work and show how this process is changing tropical forest science. Our core approach involves linking long-term grassroots initiatives with standardized protocols and data management to generate robust scaled-up results. By connecting tropical researchers and elevating their status, our Social Research Network model recognises the key role of the data originator in scientific discovery. Conceived in 1999 with RAINFOR (South America), our permanent plot networks have been adapted to Africa (AfriTRON) and Southeast Asia (T-FORCES) and widely emulated worldwide. Now these multiple initiatives are integrated via ForestPlots.net cyber-infrastructure, linking colleagues from 54 countries across 24 plot networks. Collectively these are transforming understanding of tropical forests and their biospheric role. Together we have discovered how, where and why forest carbon and biodiversity are responding to climate change, and how they feedback on it. This long-term pan-tropical collaboration has revealed a large long-term carbon sink and its trends, as well as making clear which drivers are most important, which forest processes are affected, where they are changing, what the lags are, and the likely future responses of tropical forests as the climate continues to change. By leveraging a remarkably old technology, plot networks are sparking a very modern revolution in tropical forest science.     Mass spectrometry applied to the dereplication of crude extracts from rhizosphere actinomycetes

    O objetivo deste trabalho é isolar e identificar os compostos que apresentem atividade fitotóxica presente nos extratos produzidos por actinobactérias isoladas da rizosfera do milho. Para isso foram realizados estudos de derreplicação, baseados nas informações estruturais obtidas por diversas técnicas analíticas. Em especial foi aplicada a espectrometria de massas acoplada a técnicas de purificação, como HPLC e UPLC, com a finalidade de acelerar as análises dos estudos de caracterização estrutural. Com os resultados obtidos foi possível concluir que os extratos oriundos de processos fermentativos apresentam potencial aplicação herbicida, uma vez que mais de 60% das amostras ensaiadas apresentaram atividade fitotóxica. Além disso, foi possível identificar nestes extratos vários compostos com atividades biológicas e estruturas diversas, já descritos na literatura. No extrato da actinobactéria 36 (50 PL) foram encontradas as leucinostatinas que apresentam diversas atividades biológicas como antiviral e antitumoral, além da atividade fitotóxica. Já no extrato da actinobactéria 17 (39 PL) foram encontradas as julicromas, descritas como pigmentos intensos e em geral amarelos, com atividade antibiótica, porém não apresentaram atividade fitotóxica. O composto ativo presente neste extrato pertence à classe das luminacinas, que inibem a formação de tubos capilares, interrompendo o ciclo celular, podendo ser utilizada no tratamento de angiogêneses. A luminacina C, composta por dois epímeros (C1 e C2), apresentou excelente atividade fitotóxica que foi verificada nos bioensaios de fitotoxicidade realizados com Lemna minnor.Microorganisms, in particular actinomycetes are known to produce a vast number of bioactive secondary metabolites of interesting pharmaceuticals and agrochemical industry. Bioherbicides, especially the micoherbicides, which are highly effective on weed control and are environmentally friendly as well, are very attractive for research and application. This means that direct metabolite profiling techniques such as direct injection mass spectrometry or LC-MS/MS can easily be used for chemotyping/metabolomics of strains from culture collections. In this report we discuss metabolomics as part of intelligent screening for the discovery of phytotoxic compounds when used in combination with modern methods for dereplication. As result, two microorganisms were studied and 23 metabolite peaks were identified. The metabolite profiling was then conducted using the m/z value, and MS/MS fragmentation pattern analyses. Among the peaks, one unknown compound peak was identified and it was analogous to the Luminacins series. In order to render this approach in a more rapid and efficient way, the dereplication of crude microbial extracts with LC-hyphenated techniques (LC/UV-DAD and LC/MS) represented a strategic element to avoid finding known constituents and to target the isolation of new bioactive compounds. The development of simple and rapid phytotoxic bioassays which employed Lemna minor was also crucial to find the active principles efficiently

The effectiveness of noninvasive therapy still remains lacking in a scientific basis to support their evidence-based applicability. Objective: Evaluate the effects of non-invasive interventions in spine lateral inclination in IS through a systematic literature review. Methods: The search of studies in MEDLINE, SCOPUS and COCHRANE databases was performed on 24th March, 2014. The terms used were: Scoliosis, therapeutic exercise, physical therapy. Clinical trials with scoliotic patients undergoing some type of non-invasive intervention were included. The outcome was spine lateral inclination. Results: The research found 941 studies, seven of these were included after a screening performed by two independent reviewers. Six studies (85.7%) have adopted some sort of kinesiotherapeutic technic, and three studies (42.8%) used corrective orthosis. The average intervention time in kinesiotherapeutic technique studies was of 37.6 weeks and 91.6 weeks in the studies of corrective brace. The progression improvement of the spine lateral inclination was reported by 83.3% (5 of 6) of the kinesiotherapeutic technique studies and in 66.6% (2 of 3) of studies with corrective brace. Conclusion: An improvement was found, in general, in the progression of spine lateral inclination in IS subjects of both sexes from 11 to 25 years of age undergoing non-invasive interventions

    OBJETIVO: Identificar sintomas em nível clínico de ansiedade, disforia e depressão em mães de neonatos pré-termo, comparando dois momentos, durante e após a hospitalização do bebê em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal (UTIN). MÉTODOS: 43 mães de neonatos pré-termo de muito baixo peso, sem antecedentes psiquiátricos, foram avaliadas através dos Inventários de Ansiedade Traço-Estado e de Depressão de Beck. Foram realizadas duas avaliações, uma durante a hospitalização do bebê e outra após a alta hospitalar. RESULTADOS: Na primeira avaliação, 44% das mães apresentaram sintomas clínicos de ansiedade, disforia e/ou depressão. Após a alta hospitalar do bebê, houve redução significativa do número de mães (26%) com esses sintomas clínicos em relação à primeira avaliação (pOBJECTIVE: To identify clinical level of anxiety, dysphoria and depression symptoms of pre-term infants' mothers between two moments, during and after hospitalization in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). METHODS: Previously, mothers with psychiatric background were excluded of the study. Forty-three pre-term and very low birthweight infants' mothers were assessed through State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and Beck Depression Inventory. The assessments were done during and after hospitalization, respectively. RESULTS: In the first assessment, 44% mothers showed clinical level in one or more of the emotional symptoms, such as anxiety, dysphoria or depression. After infants' discharge, the number of mothers with clinical level of emotional symptoms decreased significantly (26%) in comparison of the first assessment (p<0.008). The anxiety-state level decreased significantly from the first to the second assessment (from 35% to 12%; p<0.006). No difference in depression and dysphoria symptoms between two assessments were found. CONCLUSION:The pre-term infants' mothers presented situational anxiety and required emotional support to cope with the infants' hospitalization
