Constraining spacetime torsion with LAGEOS
We compute the corrections to the orbital Lense-Thirring effect (or
frame-dragging) in the presence of spacetime torsion. We derive the equations
of motion of a test body in the gravitational field of a rotating axisymmetric
massive body, using the parametrized framework of Mao, Tegmark, Guth and Cabi.
We calculate the secular variations of the longitudes of the node and of the
pericenter. We also show how the LAser GEOdynamics Satellites (LAGEOS) can be
used to constrain torsion parameters. We report the experimental constraints
obtained using both the nodes and perigee measurements of the orbital
Lense-Thirring effect. This makes LAGEOS and Gravity Probe B (GPB)
complementary frame-dragging and torsion experiments, since they constrain
three different combinations of torsion parameters
Observation of Orbitally Excited B_s Mesons
We report the first observation of two narrow resonances consistent with
states of orbitally excited (L=1) B_s mesons using 1 fb^{-1} of ppbar
collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the
Fermilab Tevatron. We use two-body decays into K^- and B^+ mesons reconstructed
as B^+ \to J/\psi K^+, J/\psi \to \mu^+ \mu^- or B^+ \to \bar{D}^0 \pi^+,
\bar{D}^0 \to K^+ \pi^-. We deduce the masses of the two states to be m(B_{s1})
= 5829.4 +- 0.7 MeV/c^2 and m(B_{s2}^*) = 5839.7 +- 0.7 MeV/c^2.Comment: Version accepted and published by Phys. Rev. Let
Cardiac electrophysiologic interactions of bepridil, a new calcium antagonist, with enflurane, halothane, and isoflurane
Bepridil is an investigational calcium antagonist that also has fast sodium channel blocking and antidysrhythmic properties. In the present study, the potential interactions of bepridil with volatile anesthetics on cardiac electrophysiologic parameters were evaluated ] in open-chest dogs. Twenty-four dogs anesthetized with enflurane (n = 6), halothane (n = 6), isoflurane (n = 6), or chloralose (n = 6) received 2.5 mg/kg of bepridil intravenously (IV). Twenty-five additional dogs anesthetized with enflurane (n = 7), halothane (n = 6), isoflurane (n = 6), or chloralose (n = 6), received bepridil, 5.0 mg/kg, IV. Dogs anesthetized with cloralose served as controls. Cardiac electrophysiologic parameters were measured after the dogs were anesthetized and were repeated 5, 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes after bepridil infusion. Plasma bepridil concentrations were also determined at the above time points. Synergy between bepridil and enflurane was demonstrated in the following cardiac electrophysiologic parameters: depression of sinus node function as evidenced by severe depression of sinus node automaticity and conduction; depression of atrioventricular function as evidenced by prolongation of the atrial--His bundle interval and the Wenckebach R-R interval; and, prolongation of the atrial effective refractory period. No synergy was demonstrated between bepridil and halothane or isoflurane when compared to bepridil's effects during chloralose anesthesia. It is concluded that significant synergistic cardiac electrophysiologic effects exist between bepridil and enflurane in dogs. It is recommended that caution be used when anesthetizing patients receiving bepridil with enflurane until human data on the use of this combination of pharmacologic agents is available.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/27283/1/0000299.pd
Measurement of CP observables in B± â D(â)K± and B± â D(â)ϱ decays
Measurements of CP observables in B ± âD (â) K ± and B ± âD (â) Ï Â± decays are presented, where D (â) indicates a neutral D or D â meson that is an admixture of D (â)0 and DÂŻ (â)0 states. Decays of the D â meson to the DÏ 0 and DÎł final states are partially reconstructed without inclusion of the neutral pion or photon, resulting in distinctive shapes in the B candidate invariant mass distribution. Decays of the D meson are fully reconstructed in the K ± Ï â , K + K â and Ï + Ï â final states. The analysis uses a sample of charged B mesons produced in pp collisions collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0, 1.0 and 2.0 fb â1 taken at centre-of-mass energies of s=7, 8 and 13 TeV, respectively. The study of B ± âD â K ± and B ± âD â Ï Â± decays using a partial reconstruction method is the first of its kind, while the measurement of B ± âDK ± and B ± âDÏ Â± decays is an update of previous LHCb measurements. Measurement of the ttbar Production Cross Section in ppbar collisions at sqrt s = 1.96 TeV in the All Hadronic Decay Mode
We report a measurement of the ttbar production cross section using the
CDF-II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The analysis is performed using 311
pb-1 of ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. The data consist of events
selected with six or more hadronic jets with additional kinematic requirements.
At least one of these jets must be identified as a b-quark jet by the
reconstruction of a secondary vertex. The cross section is measured to be
sigma(tbart)=7.5+-2.1(stat.)+3.3-2.2(syst.)+0.5-0.4(lumi.) pb, which is
consistent with the standard model prediction.Comment: By CDF collaboratio
Search for long-lived doubly charged Higgs bosons in p(p)over-bar collisions at root s=1.96 TeV
We present a search for long-lived doubly charged Higgs bosons (H+/-+/-), with signatures of high ionization energy loss and muonlike penetration. We use 292 pb(-1) of data collected in p (p) over bar collisions at root s=1.96 TeV by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. Observing no evidence of long-lived doubly charged particle production, we exclude H-L(+/-+/-) and H-R(+/-+/-) bosons with masses below 133 GeV/c(2) and 109 GeV/c(2), respectively. In the degenerate case we exclude H+/-+/- mass below 146 GeV/c(2). All limits are quoted at the 95% confidence level
Search for chargino-neutralino production in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV
We present the results of a search for associated production of the chargino
and neutralino supersymmetric particles using up to 1.1 fb-1 of integrated
luminosity collected by the CDF II experiment at the Tevatron ppbar collider at
a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. The search is conducted by analyzing
events with a large transverse momentum imbalance and either three charged
leptons or two charged leptons of the same electric charge. The numbers of
observed events are found to be consistent with standard model expectations.
Upper limits on the production cross section are derived in different
theoretical models. In one of these models a lower limit on the mass of the
chargino is set at 129 GeV/c^2 at the 95% confidence level.Comment: To be submitted to Phys.Rev.Let
Search for charged Higgs bosons in decays of top quarks in p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV

This is the first attempt to search for charged Higgs using fully reconstructed mass assuming H->c-sbar in small tan beta region. No evidence of a charged Higgs is observed in the CDF data, hence 95% upper limits are placed at B(t->H+b)We report on the first direct search for charged Higgs bosons decaying into csÌ
in ttÌ
events produced by ppÌ
collisions at âs=1.96ââTeV. The search uses a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.2ââfb-1 collected by the CDF II detector at Fermilab and looks for a resonance in the invariant mass distribution of two jets in the lepton+jets sample of ttÌ
candidates. We observe no evidence of charged Higgs bosons in top quark decays. Hence, 95% upper limits on the top quark decay branching ratio are placed at B(tâH+b)< 0.1 to 0.3 for charged Higgs boson masses of 60 to 150ââGeV/c2 assuming B(H+âcsÌ
)=1.0. The upper limits on B(tâH+b) are also used as model-independent limits on the decay branching ratio of top quarks to generic scalar charged bosons beyond the standard model.Peer reviewe
Measurement of the W+W- Production Cross Section in ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV using Dilepton Events
We present a measurement of the W+W- production cross section using 184/pb of
ppbar collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV collected with the
Collider Detector at Fermilab. Using the dilepton decay channel W+W- ->
l+l-vvbar, where the charged leptons can be either electrons or muons, we find
17 candidate events compared to an expected background of 5.0+2.2-0.8 events.
The resulting W+W- production cross section measurement of sigma(ppbar -> W+W-)
= 14.6 +5.8 -5.1 (stat) +1.8 -3.0 (syst) +-0.9 (lum) pb agrees well with the

Observation of and search for decays
The first observation of the decay is reported
using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of
recorded by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies
of 7 and 8 TeV. The resonance is produced in the decay . The product of branching fractions normalised to that for
the intermediate state, , is measured to be
\begin{align*} {\cal R}_{\eta_{c}(2S)}\equiv\frac{{\mathcal B}(B^{+} \to
\eta_{c}(2S) K^{+}) \times {\mathcal B}(\eta_{c}(2S) \to p \bar p)}{{\mathcal

\pm 0.33 \pm 0.09)\times 10^{-2}, \end{align*} where the first uncertainty is
statistical and the second systematic. No signals for the decays and
are seen, and the 95\% confidence level upper limits on their relative
branching ratios are % found to be and
