Productivity and economic benefits of coconut based vegetable cropping systems under central dry zone of Karnataka
Coconut based cropping systems with vegetables i.e., okra-fallow (2012-13) and tomato-fallow (2013-14), green manure-cucumber,baby corn-gherkin and coconut monocropping as control with four integrated nutrient management (INM) practices viz., inorganicfertilizer alone (100%), 5 ton farm yard mannure (FYM)+75% NPK+25% N by vermicompost (VC), 5 ton FYM+50% NPK+25%N by vermicompost+25% N by composted coir pith (CCP)+ Indian Institute of Horticulture Research (IIHR) micronutrient sprayand 5 ton FYM+50% N by vermicompost+50% N by CCP+vermiwash spray+Azatobacter were evaluated at HRS, Arsikere,Karnataka during the year 2012 to 2014 by adopting factorial RBD with five replications. All the vegetable crops gave the highestyield under integration of organic and inorganic manure treatments, viz., 5 tonne FYM+74% NPK +25% N by VC and 5 tonFYM+50% NPK+25% N by vermicompost+25% N by CCP+IIHR micronutrient spray, whereas the lowest vegetables yield wasnoticed with 5 ton FYM+50% N by vermicompost+50% N by CCP + vermiwash spray + Azatobacter. Cropping sequence, babycorn-gherkin resulted in the highest coconut equivalent yield of intercrops and cropping system (33,548 nuts ha-1 and 44,414 nutsha-1, respectively). Pooled economic analysis indicated that, okra-fallow and tomato-fallow sequence resulted in significantlyhigher net income (` 4,03,551 ha-1) compared to other sequences and it was on par with baby corn-gherkin sequence(` 3,60,365 ha-1)
Statistical mechanics of semiflexible ribbon polymers
The statistical mechanics of a ribbon polymer made up of two semiflexible
chains is studied using both analytical techniques and simulation. The system
is found to have a crossover transition at some finite temperature, from a type
of short range order to a fundamentally different sort of short range order. In
the high temperature regime, the 2-point correlation functions of the object
are identical to worm-like chains, while in the low temperature regime they are
different due to a twist structure. The crossover happens when the persistence
length of individual strands becomes comparable to the thickness of the ribbon.
In the low temperature regime, the ribbon is observed to have a novel
``kink-rod'' structure with a mutual exclusion of twist and bend in contrast to
smooth worm-like chain behaviour. This is due to its anisotropic rigidity and
corresponds to an {\it infinitely} strong twist-bend coupling. The
double-stranded polymer is also studied in a confined geometry. It is shown
that when the polymer is restricted in a particular direction to a size less
than the bare persistence length of the individual strands, it develops zigzag
conformations which are indicated by an oscillatory tangent-tangent correlation
function in the direction of confinement. Increasing the separation of the
confining plates leads to a crossover to the free behaviour, which takes place
at separations close to the bare persistence length. These results are expected
to be relevant for experiments which involve complexation of two or more stiff

Scarred Patterns in Surface Waves
Surface wave patterns are investigated experimentally in a system geometry
that has become a paradigm of quantum chaos: the stadium billiard. Linear waves
in bounded geometries for which classical ray trajectories are chaotic are
known to give rise to scarred patterns. Here, we utilize parametrically forced
surface waves (Faraday waves), which become progressively nonlinear beyond the
wave instability threshold, to investigate the subtle interplay between
boundaries and nonlinearity. Only a subset (three main types) of the computed
linear modes of the stadium are observed in a systematic scan. These correspond
to modes in which the wave amplitudes are strongly enhanced along paths
corresponding to certain periodic ray orbits. Many other modes are found to be
suppressed, in general agreement with a prediction by Agam and Altshuler based
on boundary dissipation and the Lyapunov exponent of the associated orbit.
Spatially asymmetric or disordered (but time-independent) patterns are also
found even near onset. As the driving acceleration is increased, the
time-independent scarred patterns persist, but in some cases transitions
between modes are noted. The onset of spatiotemporal chaos at higher forcing
amplitude often involves a nonperiodic oscillation between spatially ordered
and disordered states. We characterize this phenomenon using the concept of
pattern entropy. The rate of change of the patterns is found to be reduced as
the state passes temporarily near the ordered configurations of lower entropy.
We also report complex but highly symmetric (time-independent) patterns far

Amplitude measurements of Faraday waves
A light reflection technique is used to measure quantitatively the surface
elevation of Faraday waves. The performed measurements cover a wide parameter
range of driving frequencies and sample viscosities. In the capillary wave
regime the bifurcation diagrams exhibit a frequency independent scaling
proportional to the wavelength. We also provide numerical simulations of the
full Navier-Stokes equations, which are in quantitative agreement up to
supercritical drive amplitudes of 20%. The validity of an existing perturbation
analysis is found to be limited to 2.5% overcriticaly.Comment: 7 figure
Constraints on the Nucleon Strange Form Factors at Q^2 ~ 0.1 GeV^2
We report the most precise measurement to date of a parity-violating
asymmetry in elastic electron-proton scattering. The measurement was carried
out with a beam energy of 3.03 GeV and a scattering angle =6
degrees, with the result A_PV = -1.14 +/- 0.24 (stat) +/- 0.06 (syst) parts per
million. From this we extract, at Q^2 = 0.099 GeV^2, the strange form factor
combination G_E^s + 0.080 G_M^s = 0.030 +/- 0.025 (stat) +/- 0.006 (syst) +/-
0.012 (FF) where the first two errors are experimental and the last error is
due to the uncertainty in the neutron electromagnetic form factor. This result
significantly improves current knowledge of G_E^s and G_M^s at Q^2 ~0.1 GeV^2.
A consistent picture emerges when several measurements at about the same Q^2
value are combined: G_E^s is consistent with zero while G_M^s prefers positive
values though G_E^s=G_M^s=0 is compatible with the data at 95% C.L.Comment: minor wording changes for clarity, updated references, dropped one

Centrality dependence of charged particle production at large transverse momentum in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
The inclusive transverse momentum () distributions of primary
charged particles are measured in the pseudo-rapidity range as a
function of event centrality in Pb-Pb collisions at
TeV with ALICE at the LHC. The data are presented in the range
GeV/ for nine centrality intervals from 70-80% to 0-5%.
The Pb-Pb spectra are presented in terms of the nuclear modification factor
using a pp reference spectrum measured at the same collision
energy. We observe that the suppression of high- particles strongly
depends on event centrality. In central collisions (0-5%) the yield is most
suppressed with at -7 GeV/. Above
GeV/, there is a significant rise in the nuclear modification
factor, which reaches for GeV/. In
peripheral collisions (70-80%), the suppression is weaker with almost independently of . The measured nuclear

Measurement of charm production at central rapidity in proton-proton collisions at TeV
The -differential production cross sections of the prompt (B
feed-down subtracted) charmed mesons D, D, and D in the rapidity
range , and for transverse momentum GeV/, were
measured in proton-proton collisions at TeV with the ALICE
detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis exploited the hadronic
decays DK, DK, DD, and their charge conjugates, and was performed on a
nb event sample collected in 2011 with a
minimum-bias trigger. The total charm production cross section at TeV and at 7 TeV was evaluated by extrapolating to the full phase space
the -differential production cross sections at TeV
and our previous measurements at TeV. The results were compared
to existing measurements and to perturbative-QCD calculations. The fraction of

Upper limits from five years of blazar observations with the VERITAS Cherenkov telescopes
Between the beginning of its full-scale scientific operations in 2007 and 2012, the VERITAS Cherenkov telescope array observed more than 130 blazars; of these, 26 were detected as very-high-energy (VHE; E > 100 GeV) γ-ray sources. In this work, we present the analysis results of a sample of 114 undetected objects. The observations constitute a total live-time of ~570 hr. The sample includes several unidentified Fermi-Large Area Telescope (LAT) sources (located at high Galactic latitude) as well as all the sources from the second Fermi-LAT catalog that are contained within the field of view of the VERITAS observations. We have also performed optical spectroscopy measurements in order to estimate the redshift of some of these blazars that do not have spectroscopic distance estimates. We present new optical spectra from the Kast instrument on the Shane telescope at the Lick observatory for 18 blazars included in this work, which allowed for the successful measurement or constraint on the redshift of four of them. For each of the blazars included in our sample, we provide the flux upper limit in the VERITAS energy band. We also study the properties of the significance distributions and we present the result of a stacked analysis of the data set, which shows a 4σ excess
Simultaneous determination of ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone in oral contraceptive by high performance liquid chromatography
A simple, rapid, economical and reliable high performance liquid chromatographic method has been developed and successfully applied in simultaneous determination of ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone in coated tablets. The HPLC method was performed on a LiChroCART® 100RP column (125x4 mm i.d., 5 µm) with acetonitrile:water 50:50 (v/v) as mobile phase, pumped at a flow rate of 1.0 mL.min-1. The fluorescence detection for ethinyl estradiol was made at λex= 280 nm and λem= 310 nm and a UV detection for drospirenone was made at 200 nm. The elution time for ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone were 4.0 and 5.7 min, respectively. The method was validated in accordance to USP 34 guidelines. The proposed HPLC method presented advantages over reported methods and is suitable for quality control assays of ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone in coated tablets
