    The maximum entropy state

We give an algorithm for calculating the maximum entropy state as the least fixed point of a Scott continuous mapping on the domain of classical states in their Bayesian order.Comment: 15 page

A domain of spacetime intervals in general relativity

    Get PDF
Beginning from only a countable dense set of events and the causality relation, it is possible to reconstruct a globally hyperbolic spacetime in a purely order theoretic manner. The ultimate reason for this is that globally hyperbolic spacetimes belong to a category that is equivalent to a special category of domains called interval domains.Comment: 25 page

Compactness of the space of causal curves

We prove that the space of causal curves between compact subsets of a separable globally hyperbolic poset is itself compact in the Vietoris topology. Although this result implies the usual result in general relativity, its proof does not require the use of geometry or differentiable structure.Comment: 15 page

Algebraic information theory for binary channels

    Get PDF
AbstractWe study the algebraic structure of the monoid of binary channels and show that it is dually isomorphic to the interval domain over the unit interval with the operation from Martin (2006) [4]. We show that the capacity of a binary channel is Scott continuous as a map on the interval domain and that its restriction to any maximally commutative submonoid of binary channels is an order isomorphism onto the unit interval. These results allows us to solve an important open problem in the analysis of covert channels: a provably correct method for injecting noise into a covert channel which will reduce its capacity to any level desired in such a way that the practitioner is free to insert the noise at any point in the system

Margarita de Sossa, Sixteenth-Century Puebla de los Ángeles, New Spain (Mexico)

Margarita de Sossa’s freedom journey was defiant and entrepreneurial. In her early twenties, still enslaved in Portugal, she took possession of her body; after refusing to endure her owner’s sexual demands, he sold her, and she was transported to Mexico. There, she purchased her freedom with money earned as a healer and then conducted an enviable business as an innkeeper. Sossa’s biography provides striking insights into how she conceptualized freedom in terms that included – but was not limited to – legal manumission. Her transatlantic biography offers a rare insight into the life of a free black woman (and former slave) in late sixteenth-century Puebla, who sought to establish various degrees of freedom for herself. Whether she was refusing to acquiesce to an abusive owner, embracing entrepreneurship, marrying, purchasing her own slave property, or later using the courts to petition for divorce. Sossa continued to advocate on her own behalf. Her biography shows that obtaining legal manumission was not always equivalent to independence and autonomy, particularly if married to an abusive husband, or if financial successes inspired the envy of neighbors

    Epistemic Motion in Quantum Searching

    No full text
We formalize elementary kinematics of motion on domains with measurements, and then use these ideas to calculate the complexity of Grover's algorithm for quantum searching. In particular, it is now possible to analyze classical and quantum searching in a single semantic framework

Domain Theoretic Models of Topological Spaces

    Get PDF
A model of a space X is simply a continuous dcpo D and a homeomorphism OE : X ! max D, where max D is given its inherited Scott topology. We show that a space has a coherent model iff it has a Scott domain model and investigate the topological structure of spaces which have G ffi models

Informatic vs. classical differentiation on the real line

    No full text
We study the relationship between informatic and classical differentiation on the real line. The former arises when considering the interval domain over the reals equipped with the Lebesgue measurement. We show that informatic differentiation is a strict generalization of its classical counterpart, and wonder if it can provide a springboard towards extending techniques and results from calculus to certain non classically differentiable functions.© 2004 Elsevier B.V.
