The experimental group consisted of nine female pupils who attended one elementary school in the town of Liptovský Mikuláš and whose age was 13.6 years. We obtained data using the standardized method based on pedagogical and medical practice connected with evaluation of body posture. We used the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to process the obtained qualitative and quantitative data within individual groups. The Wilcoxon-Mann–Whitney test was used to assess the effect of exercise programmes between the two groups (MWWtest p < 0.01; p < 0.05). The test results proved the positive impact of the applied exercise programme on overall posture as well as its individual components. The partial output is part of the: VEGA 1/0376/14

Tourism and outdoor physical activities in the lifestyle of the young generation in Slovakia I. part

Organized activities performed outdoor, in the natural conditions, belonged among the popular ones and regularly practiced leisure activities in the past (Hrčka – Kvapilík, 1977; Zajac – Žiškay, 1987 and Hrčka – Drdácka, 1992). Their main asset is the significant social, health, cognitive and professional and technical character. Currently, their proclaimed all-society importance has even increased, but on the other hand in the leisure time activities of our youth generation they loose their foremost position. Our effort is to contribute to the deepening of knowledge not only about tourism itself, but also about physical activities performed outdoor, help in their organizing and attract the attention of the youth in order to increase their performance

The Primary Pupils’ Knowledge Level about the Winter Olympic Games

The aim of this research was to find out the primary pupils&acute; knowledge level about the Winter Olympic Games in Banska Bystrica. The research file consisted of 261 second stage primary pupils, 145 boys and 116 girls at the age from 10 to 15, who filled in the questionnaire ten days after finishing of the Winter Olympic Games held in Sochi. We used 14 questions in the questionnaire, consisting of the closed, half-open and open questions and 3 identification questions related to the sex of a respondent, age and respective school year of individual respondents. We can claim that among the most interesting findings there were: Firstly, more than 95% pupils knew what town was the organiser of the Winter Olympic Games in 2014. Secondly, more than 75% of the pupils were watching these Winter Olympic Games too. The most information about the Winter Olympic Games the pupils gained was via the TV and the internet. The favourite sports watched by the pupilswere ice hockey, biathlon, ski-jump and snowboarding. Almost 60% of the pupils could answer the question: &ldquo;Which town will be the Winter Olympic Games organiser in 2018?&rdquo; What is more, it is really pleasing to note that the Winter Paralympic Games have started to be in the primary pupils&acute; attention as well

Financial, social and sporting aspects of deaf sports worldwide

There is a dynamic increase in the number of international sports competitions aimed for deaf athletes. More than 50 World and European championships are held every year in various sports disciplines. The participationand number of deaf athletes delegated to these sports competitions depend on the budget available to national sports federations (NSFs) of deaf athletes. Many times, NSFs have been forced to withdraw from participation in a competition owing to lack of financial resources. In numerous countries, NSFs have to conduct online fundraising dedicated to their representatives’ involvement in sports competitions. The authors reviewed the source materials in internet on financing the sport of the hearing impaired. No scientific articles covering the funding aspect of national sports federations in the world were found. The authors relied on financial documents provided by the NSF (Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Spain) and on websites indicated by these federations.The aim of the article was to characterize selected national organizations gathering deaf athletes from Europe, Asia and Oceania, and North America in terms of the budget they had at their disposal in years 2013–2017, the number of athletes associated in the NSF, and the number of Olympic competitors and the country’s medal position during the 2013 and 2017 Deaflympics.An overview of NSF websites with reference to “annual reports”, “financial reports”, “financial statements”, “newsletter”, “national teams of”, “number of athletes of”, demonstrated numerous deficiencies in the transparent presentation of the financial situation of NSFs. The content of NSF activity reports also provides limited information on the number of athletes and clubs associated in these federations. Coping strategies and perceiving stress among athletes during different waves of the COVID-19 Pandemic—Data from Poland, Romania, and Slovakia

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, has affected numerous aspects of human functioning. Social contacts, work, education, travel, and sports have drastically changed during the lockdown periods. The pandemic restrictions have severely limited professional athletes’ ability to train and participate in competitions. For many who rely on sports as their main source of income, this represents a source of intense stress. To assess the dynamics of perceived stress as well as coping strategies during different waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, we carried out a longitudinal study using the Perception of Stress Questionnaire and the Brief COPE on a sample of 2020 professional athletes in Poland, Romania, and Slovakia. The results revealed that in all three countries, the highest intrapsychic stress levels were reported during the fourth wave (all, p < 0.01) and the highest external stress levels were reported before the pandemic (p < 0.05). To analyze the data, analyses of variance were carried out using Tukey’s post hoc test and η2 for effect size. Further, emotional tension was the highest among Polish and Slovak athletes in the fourth wave, while the highest among Romanian athletes was in the pre-pandemic period. The coping strategies used by the athletes in the fourth wave were more dysfunctional than during the first wave (independent t test and Cohen’s d were used). The dynamics of the coping strategies—emotion focused and problem focused—were also discussed among Polish, Romanian, and Slovak athletes. Differential cross section measurements for the production of a W boson in association with jets in proton–proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV

Measurements are reported of differential cross sections for the production of a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, in association with jets, as a function of several variables, including the transverse momenta (pT) and pseudorapidities of the four leading jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta (HT), and the difference in azimuthal angle between the directions of each jet and the muon. The data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb[superscript −1]. The measured cross sections are compared to predictions from Monte Carlo generators, MadGraph + pythia and sherpa, and to next-to-leading-order calculations from BlackHat + sherpa. The differential cross sections are found to be in agreement with the predictions, apart from the pT distributions of the leading jets at high pT values, the distributions of the HT at high-HT and low jet multiplicity, and the distribution of the difference in azimuthal angle between the leading jet and the muon at low values.United States. Juxtaposing BTE and ATE – on the role of the European insurance industry in funding civil litigation

One of the ways in which legal services are financed, and indeed shaped, is through private insurance arrangement. Two contrasting types of legal expenses insurance contracts (LEI) seem to dominate in Europe: before the event (BTE) and after the event (ATE) legal expenses insurance. Notwithstanding institutional differences between different legal systems, BTE and ATE insurance arrangements may be instrumental if government policy is geared towards strengthening a market-oriented system of financing access to justice for individuals and business. At the same time, emphasizing the role of a private industry as a keeper of the gates to justice raises issues of accountability and transparency, not readily reconcilable with demands of competition. Moreover, multiple actors (clients, lawyers, courts, insurers) are involved, causing behavioural dynamics which are not easily predicted or influenced. Against this background, this paper looks into BTE and ATE arrangements by analysing the particularities of BTE and ATE arrangements currently available in some European jurisdictions and by painting a picture of their respective markets and legal contexts. This allows for some reflection on the performance of BTE and ATE providers as both financiers and keepers. Two issues emerge from the analysis that are worthy of some further reflection. Firstly, there is the problematic long-term sustainability of some ATE products. Secondly, the challenges faced by policymakers that would like to nudge consumers into voluntarily taking out BTE LEI

Search for stop and higgsino production using diphoton Higgs boson decays

Results are presented of a search for a "natural" supersymmetry scenario with gauge mediated symmetry breaking. It is assumed that only the supersymmetric partners of the top-quark (stop) and the Higgs boson (higgsino) are accessible. Events are examined in which there are two photons forming a Higgs boson candidate, and at least two b-quark jets. In 19.7 inverse femtobarns of proton-proton collision data at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV, recorded in the CMS experiment, no evidence of a signal is found and lower limits at the 95% confidence level are set, excluding the stop mass below 360 to 410 GeV, depending on the higgsino mass
