MHD Flow with Slip Effects and Temperature-dependent Heat Source in a Viscous Incompressible Fluid Confined between a Long Vertical Wavy Wall and a Parallel Flat Wall
This study examines the problem of an MHD free convection flow in the presence of a temperaturedependent heat source in a viscous incompressible fluid between a long vertical wavy wall and a parallel flat wall with constant heatflux and slip flow boundary condition. A uniform magnetic field is assumed to be applied perpendicular to the walls. It is assumed that the flow consists of two parts; amean part and aperturbedpart. Expressions for the zeroth-order and first-order velocity, temperature, skin friction, and Nusselt number at the wal lr ;ire obtained. The effects of different parameters entering into the problem, viz., free convection parameter, magnetic parameter, and heat source parameter on the zeroth-order and first-order velocity fields, temperature field, skin friction, and Nusselt number at the walls are shown graphically and discussed numerically
The scaling attractor and ultimate dynamics for Smoluchowski's coagulation equations
We describe a basic framework for studying dynamic scaling that has roots in
dynamical systems and probability theory. Within this framework, we study
Smoluchowski's coagulation equation for the three simplest rate kernels
, and . In another work, we classified all self-similar
solutions and all universality classes (domains of attraction) for scaling
limits under weak convergence (Comm. Pure Appl. Math 57 (2004)1197-1232). Here
we add to this a complete description of the set of all limit points of
solutions modulo scaling (the scaling attractor) and the dynamics on this limit
set (the ultimate dynamics). The main tool is Bertoin's L\'{e}vy-Khintchine
representation formula for eternal solutions of Smoluchowski's equation (Adv.
Appl. Prob. 12 (2002) 547--64). This representation linearizes the dynamics on
the scaling attractor, revealing these dynamics to be conjugate to a continuous
dilation, and chaotic in a classical sense. Furthermore, our study of scaling
limits explains how Smoluchowski dynamics ``compactifies'' in a natural way
that accounts for clusters of zero and infinite size (dust and gel)
Spin glass behavior of frustrated 2-D Penrose lattice in the classical planar model
Via extensive Monte Carlo studies we show that the frustrated XY Hamiltonian
on a 2-D Penrose lattice admits of a spin glass phase at low temperature.
Studies of the Edwards-Anderson order parameter, spin glass susceptibility, and
local (linear) susceptibility point unequivocally to a paramagnetic to spin
glass transition as the temperature is lowered. Specific heat shows a rounded
peak at a temperature above the spin glass transition temperature, as is
commonly observed in spin glasses. Our results strongly suggest that the
critical point exponents are the same as obtained by Bhatt and Young in the
Ising model on a square lattice. However, unlike in the latter case,
the critical temperature is clearly finite (nonzero). The results imply that a
quasiperiodic 2-D array of superconducting grains in a suitably chosen
transverse magnetic field should behave as a superconducting glass at low
temperature.Comment: RevTex, 4 pages Including 4 figures. To appear in the June 1 1996

Comparison of immune response to lipopolysaccharide of rabbit does selected for litter size at weaning or founded for reproductive longevity
To evaluate differences in maternal lines to the immune response of reproductive rabbit does, a total of 64 animals of two different lines: (1) founded for hyper-longevity and litter size criteria (LP) and (2) selected for litter size at weaning (V) were used. Females were subjected to three different reproductive efforts: post-partum (PP) mating at first lactation and 9 kits during the second; post-weaning (PW) mating at first lactation and 9 kits during the second; and PW mating at first lactation and 5 kits during the second. At second weaning (30 days PP), an acute response was induced by intravenous infusion of lipopolysaccharide (LPS). LP females seemed to be lower affected during the hyper-acute phase than V females, showing lower plasma glucose content at 1.5 h post infusion (pi) and rectal temperature at 6 h pi; and showed higher ulterior immune response, with higher levels of C-reactive protein at 48 h pi and haptoglobin in plasma from 24 h pi. Survival test conferred a higher risk of culling for V than for LP females during the first hours after challenge. These results may suggest that, regarding immune response to LPS challenge, foundation by hyper-longevity productive criteria lead to obtain a more robust population of rabbit does, characterized by improved response ability. Search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos in events with three leptons and missing transverse momentum in √s = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with three electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum is presented. The analysis is based on 4.7 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded with the ATLAS detector. Observations are consistent with Standard Model expectations in three signal regions that are either depleted or enriched in Z-boson decays. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in R-parity conserving phenomenological minimal supersymmetric models and in simplified models, significantly extending previous results
