    Factors shaping young tourists' intentions to travel to Greece, Israel and Portugal: Universal or idisyncratic perceptions of young Greeks, Israelis and Portugese?

    Tourism constitutes an important branch of economy, especially in countries experiencing economic crisis and harsh socio-political events. The current study compares the intention of young people from three different countries – Greece, Israel and Portugal - to travel to two selected destinations. For each country of origin the other two countries were the destination of interest. This research examined the factors affecting young tourists' intention to travel to different destinations assuming that those determinants depend on the country of origin as well as on the destination country. The sample comprised of 648 students: Israelis (277), Portuguese (200), Greeks (171). The research questionnaire was distributed in Israeli, Greek and Portuguese academic institutions in 2014. The results indicate that over half of the Israelis intend to visit Greece or Portugal. The majority of the Portuguese anticipate visiting Greece, while only 32.5% expect to visit Israel. Among the Greeks nearly 50% intend to visit Portugal and do not intend to visit Israel. The study showed that the main factors affecting the decisions of young Portuguese to travel to Israel were: the image of Israel, the perceived risk of traveling to a country with political unrest and the number of trips abroad. The main factors affecting the decisions of young Greeks were the perceived risk of traveling to a country with political unrest and Israel's image. Israelis' decision to travel to Greece was affected by their image of Greece; the Portuguese also took into account the perceived risk regarding economic situation. For Israelis, considering Portugal as a traveling destination was related to the destination's image. The Greeks were affected by the number of Facebook friends and the Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Digital Ecosystems perceived economic risk.     Big data innovation and diffusion in projects teams: Towards a conflict prevention culture

    Despite the enormous literature on how team conflicts can be managed and resolved, this study diverges, by examining factors that facilitate conflict prevention culture in project teams, especially when introducing Big Data Technology. Relying on findings from relevant literatures and focus group discussions, 28 attributes for embedding conflict prevention culture were identified and put together in questionnaire survey. Series of statistical tests including reliability analysis and exploratory factor-analysis. The results identified five critical success factors for entrenching the culture of conflict prevention in project teams introducing big data driving innovations. The five-factor solution include “building effective relationship”, “effective project communications”, “project team efficacy”, “pro-active conflict management approach” and “effectual project documentation”. Result of this study presents a Conceptual framework for effective management of human resource in relation to conflict prevention among project teams, as an effective strategy for facilitating seamless adoption and diffusion of big data innovation in organisations

    ‘It is not fair that you do not know we have problems’: Perceptual distance and the consequences of male leaders' conflict avoidance behaviours

    This study investigates perceptual distance in terms of managers' conflict avoidance behaviour and its consequences for subordinates. We argue that perceptual distance, or the disagreement between a manager's perception and that of his or her subordinates of his or her conflict avoidance, is a genuine phenomenon. We examine the extent to which the perceptual distance regarding managers' avoidance behaviour influences a team's justice climate as well as the role of gender. The data collected from three multinational companies in China show that the perceptual distance of a male manager's avoidance behaviour exists and that it is associated with a negative justice climate within the team. These findings provide evidence of gender's effect on leadership and highlight the benefits of female leadership

    Decision -making patterns of young tourists regarding risky destinations

    Abstract The current study examines how exposure to terrorism and past foreign travel experiences influence attitudes and perceptions regarding travel to risky destinations. Specifically, it examines the impact of these attitudes and risk perceptions on Israeli students' intentions to travel to four destinations: Egypt, Turkey, Japan and India. According to the model tested by the study, an individual's risk perceptions mediate how past travel experience and exposure to terror affect intention to travel to various destinations. The results show that a greater number of previous trips abroad and past exposure to terrorism (with no adverse personal consequences) tend to diminish perceptions of travel risk and positively affect attitudes toward travel to risky destinations. In addition, intentions to travel to risky destinations rise as perceived risks decrease and as attitudes toward travel to risky destinations become more positive. Moreover, Israelis are less likely to travel to adversary countries (such as Turkey or Egypt) than to other countries (such as Japan or India). This research shows that prior experience with foreign travel and exposure to harsh experiences (such as terrorist acts) with no adverse personal consequences mitigate risk perceptions, which in turn positively affect intention to travel to destinations with various types of risks.
