    Weyl Algebras and Knots

In this paper we push forward results on the invariant F{\cal F}-module of a virtual knot investigated by the first named author where F{\cal F} is the algebra with two invertible generators A,BA,B and one relation A−1B−1AB−B−1AB=BA−1B−1A−AA^{-1}B^{-1}AB-B^{-1}AB= BA^{-1}B^{-1}A-A. For flat knots and links the two sides of the relation equation are put equal to unity and the algebra becomes the Weyl algebra. If this is perturbed and the two sides of the relation equation are put equal to a general element, qq, of the ground ring, then the resulting module lays claim to be the correct generalization of the Alexander module. Many finite dimensional representations are given together with calculations.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures, accepted by Journal of Geometry and Physic

Practice, Skill Mix, and Education: The Evolving Role of Pharmacy Technicians in Great Britain

    Get PDF
Pharmacy technicians’ roles are rapidly evolving in Great Britain (GB) as they undertake more extended activities with increased autonomy across the different pharmacy sectors. This paper compares the GB pharmacy regulator initial education and training standards recently introduced (2017) with the qualifications currently used in practice and discusses whether future qualifications will be ‘fit for purpose’. In this context, knowledge, skills, and competence are reviewed to assess whether they will meet the expectations and underpin the evolving pharmacy technician role as integral to healthcare provision. Based on drivers, policy change, and the changing GB healthcare landscape, effectiveness of skill mix is analysed to establish whether this is being optimised to support person-centred pharmacy in response to the challenges and pressures faced within the NHS. On this basis and given there is a limited evidence base, this review has highlighted a need for larger scale research to reassure the pharmacy and wider healthcare professions, and the public, that the evolving pharmacy technician role presents no increased risk to patient safety and contributes significantly to releasing pharmacists time for person-centred clinical activities

Language Ideologies, Choices, and Practices in Eastern African Hip Hop

Hip hop emerged as a musical and cultural force during the late 1970s in the United States and has followed a global trajectory ever since. Artists and fans around the world filter North American hip hop styles through their own local musical, social, and linguistic environments, making hip hop a highly visible (and audible) example of the intersection of global and local youth cultures. Young people in Tanzania and Malawi, neighboring African countries in the eastern region of the continent, are no exception to this creative process. Both countries have vibrant hip hop communities that draw on youth knowledge of international, as well as local and national, hip hop music and culture. Youth in the two countries listen to the same popular American stars and hold similar ideas about and interpretations of their lives and music. Yet, Tanzanian and Malawian hip hop scenes diverge in the social and cultural significance of local musical practices, which include performing as well as dancing, dressing, and talking about rap music. This tension between the similar and the different serves as an analytic backdrop for what follows
