Verification of high-level transformations with inductive refinement types
International audienceHigh-level transformation languages like Rascal include expressive features for manipulating large abstract syntax trees: first-class traversals, expressive pattern matching, backtrack-ing and generalized iterators. We present the design and implementation of an abstract interpretation tool, Rabit, for verifying inductive type and shape properties for transformations written in such languages. We describe how to perform abstract interpretation based on operational semantics, specifically focusing on the challenges arising when analyzing the expressive traversals and pattern matching. Finally, we evaluate Rabit on a series of transformations (normaliza-tion, desugaring, refactoring, code generators, type inference, etc.) showing that we can effectively verify stated properties. Performance of the Gemini Planet Imager Non-Redundant Mask and spectroscopy of two close-separation binaries HR 2690 and HD 142527
The Gemini Planet Imager (GPI) contains a 10-hole non-redundant mask (NRM),
enabling interferometric resolution in complement to its coronagraphic
capabilities. The NRM operates both in spectroscopic (integral field
spectrograph, henceforth IFS) and polarimetric configurations. NRM observations
were taken between 2013 and 2016 to characterize its performance. Most
observations were taken in spectroscopic mode with the goal of obtaining
precise astrometry and spectroscopy of faint companions to bright stars. We
find a clear correlation between residual wavefront error measured by the AO
system and the contrast sensitivity by comparing phase errors in observations
of the same source, taken on different dates. We find a typical 5-
contrast sensitivity of at . We explore the
accuracy of spectral extraction of secondary components of binary systems by
recovering the signal from a simulated source injected into several datasets.
We outline data reduction procedures unique to GPI's IFS and describe a newly
public data pipeline used for the presented analyses. We demonstrate recovery
of astrometry and spectroscopy of two known companions to HR 2690 and HD
142527. NRM+polarimetry observations achieve differential visibility precision
of in the best case. We discuss its limitations on
Gemini-S/GPI for resolving inner regions of protoplanetary disks and prospects
for future upgrades. We summarize lessons learned in observing with NRM in
spectroscopic and polarimetric modes.Comment: Accepted to AJ, 22 pages, 14 figure
Measurement of the B0-anti-B0-Oscillation Frequency with Inclusive Dilepton Events
The - oscillation frequency has been measured with a sample of
23 million \B\bar B pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II
asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. In this sample, we select events in which both B
mesons decay semileptonically and use the charge of the leptons to identify the
flavor of each B meson. A simultaneous fit to the decay time difference
distributions for opposite- and same-sign dilepton events gives ps.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, submitted to Physical Review Letter
Measurement of D-s(+) and D-s(*+) production in B meson decays and from continuum e(+)e(-) annihilation at âs=10.6 GeV

continuum events near the ΄(4S) resonance are presented. Using 20.8 fb-1 of data on the ΄(4S) resonance and 2.6 fb-1 off-resonance, we find the inclusive branching fractions B(BâDs+X)=(10.93±0.19±0.58±2.73)% and B(BâDs*+X)=(7.9±0.8±0.7±2.0)%, where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the Ds+âÏÏ+ branching fraction uncertainty. The production cross sections Ï(e+e-âDs+X)ĂB(Ds+âÏÏ+)=7.55±0.20±0.34pb and Ï(e+e-âDs*±X)ĂB(Ds+âÏÏ+)=5.8±0.7±0.5pb are measured at center-of-mass energies about 40 MeV below the ΄(4S) mass. The branching fractions ÎŁB(BâDs(*)+D(*))=(5.07±0.14±0.30±1.27)% and ÎŁB(BâDs*+D(*))=(4.1±0.2±0.4±1.0)% are determined from the Ds(*)+ momentum spectra. The mass difference m(Ds+)-m(D+)=98.4±0.1±0.3MeV/c2 is also measured. This work was supported by DOE and NSF (USA), NSERC (Canada), IHEP (China), CEA and CNRS-IN2P3 (France), BMBF (Germany), INFN (Italy), NFR (Norway), MIST (Russia), and PPARC (United Kingdom). Appetite Enhancement and Weight Gain by Peripheral Administration of TrkB Agonists in Non-Human Primates
Loss of function mutations in the receptor tyrosine kinase TrkB pathway resulted in hyperphagia and morbid obesity in human and rodents. Conversely, peripheral or central stimulation of TrkB by its natural ligands BDNF or NT4 reduced body weight and food intake in mice, supporting the idea that TrkB is a key anorexigenic signal downstream of the melanocortin-4 receptor (Mc4r) system. Here we show that in non-human primates TrkB agonists were anorexigenic when applied centrally, but surprisingly orexigenic, leading to gain in appetite, body weight, fat deposits and serum leptin levels, when given peripherally. The orexigenic and pro-obesity effects of peripherally administered TrkB agonists appear to be dose dependent, not associated with fluid retention nor with evidence of receptor down regulation. Our findings revealed that TrkB signaling exerts dual control on energy homeostasis in the primates that could be targeted for the treatment of either wasting disorders or obesity
Renyi entropy of the totally asymmetric exclusion process
The Renyi entropy is a generalisation of the Shannon entropy that is
sensitive to the fine details of a probability distribution. We present results
for the Renyi entropy of the totally asymmetric exclusion process (TASEP). We
calculate explicitly an entropy whereby the squares of configuration
probabilities are summed, using the matrix product formalism to map the problem
to one involving a six direction lattice walk in the upper quarter plane. We
derive the generating function across the whole phase diagram, using an
obstinate kernel method. This gives the leading behaviour of the Renyi entropy
and corrections in all phases of the TASEP. The leading behaviour is given by
the result for a Bernoulli measure and we conjecture that this holds for all
Renyi entropies. Within the maximal current phase the correction to the leading
behaviour is logarithmic in the system size. Finally, we remark upon a special
property of equilibrium systems whereby discontinuities in the Renyi entropy
arise away from phase transitions, which we refer to as secondary transitions.
We find no such secondary transition for this nonequilibrium system, supporting
the notion that these are specific to equilibrium cases
A Historiometric Examination of Machiavellianism and a New Taxonomy of Leadership
Although researchers have extensively examined the relationship between charismatic leadership and Machiavellianism (Deluga, 2001; Gardner & Avolio, 1995; House & Howell, 1992), there has been a lack of investigation of Machiavellianism in relation to alternative forms of outstanding leadership. Thus, the purpose of this investigation was to examine the relationship between Machiavellianism and a new taxonomy of outstanding leadership comprised of charismatic, ideological, and pragmatic leaders. Using an historiometric approach, raters assessed Machiavellianism via the communications of 120 outstanding leaders in organizations across the domains of business, political, military, and religious institutions. Academic biographies were used to assess twelve general performance measures as well as twelve general controls and five communication specific controls. The results indicated that differing levels of Machiavellianism is evidenced across the differing leader types as well as differing leader orientation. Additionally, Machiavellianism appears negatively related to performance, though less so when type and orientation are taken into account.Yeshttps://us.sagepub.com/en-us/nam/manuscript-submission-guideline
