Chat agents respond more empathetically by using hearsay experience

As the responses of chat dialogue systems have become more natural, the empathy skill of dialogue systems has become an important new issue. In text-based chat dialogue systems, the definition of empathy is not precise, and how to design the kind of utterance that improves the user’s impression of receiving empathy is not clear since the main method used is to imitate utterances and dialogues that humans consider empathetic. In this study, we focus on the necessity of grasping an agent as an experienceable Other, which is considered the most important factor when empathy is performed by an agent, and propose an utterance design that directly conveys the fact that the agent can experience and feel empathy through text. Our system has an experience database including the system’s pseudo-experience and feelings to show empathetic feelings. Then, the system understands the user’s experiences and empathizes with the user on the basis of the system’s experience database, in line with the dialogue content. As a result of developing and evaluating several systems with different ways of conveying the aforementioned rationale, we found that conveying the rationale as a hearsay experience improved the user’s impression of receiving empathy more than conveying it as the system’s own experience. Moreover, an exhaustive evaluation shows that our empathetic utterance design using hearsay experience is effective to improve the user’s impression about the system’s cognitive empathy

We studied how precisely images reflect tracer uptake .in the myocardium, and examined what degree technetium-99m-tetrofosmin (c-tetrofosmin) in the liver and gastrointestine gave the effect to a myocardial image. After administering dipyridamole and 99m Tc tetrofosmin to normal rats, we compared the myocardial uptakes obtained using a gamma camera with the actual uptakes in the excised organs. Methods : Thirty-seven rats were used. Following imaging the anterior view at 5, 10, 15, 30, 60 and 90 min after admini stration of the tracer, uptakes in the heart, lung, liver and blood were estimated with a well-type scintillation counter (WC) and represented as percentage of the injected dose per gram of tissue (%ID/g). The regions of interest (ROis) were placed on planar images (PI) and the uptake in each organ was estimated as percentage of the injected dose per pixel (%ID/pixel). The ratios of PI-to-WC and heart-to-organ were also evaluated. Results : Cardiac uptake with WC was 1.688%± 0.395% at 10 min post-injection. On the other hand, that with PI was 1.855%±0.965% at 10 min post-injection. There were particularly great differences from 15 min post-injection between both measurements (PI/WC ratio : about 1.2 times). Pulmonary uptake with WC was the maximum at 15 min (0.861%± 0.387%) post-injection, and there was. hardly a variation in the activity later than 15 min. However, PI measurement showed the maximum value at 15 min (0.777%±0.163%), and decreased gradually. Hepatic uptake with WC was the maximum at 5 min (1.545%±0.563 %), and rapidly decreased. On the other hand, PI measurement showed higher value than WC as" the whole. Conclusion : Pl measurement showed higher uptakes in each organ than WC measurement. There were great differences between both measurements, at late phase particularly. As one of these causes, it was considered that the decrease of activity in blood was different from that in each organ with increasing time

Mesenchymal Stem Cells from Bone Marrow Enhance Neovascularization and Stromal Cell Proliferation in Rat Ischemic Limb in the Early Phase after plantation

Accumulating evidence from animal studies shows that the administration of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from adult bone marrow ameliorates tissue damage after ischemic injury. In the present study we investigated the efficacy of MSC implantation into a hindlimb ischemia model over a short-term period to elucidate the effects conferred within the early phase after treatment. MSCs from rats expressing green fluorescence protein (GFP) were injected into rat ischemic limbs. Laser Doppler perfusion imaging revealed significantly higher blood perfusion recovery in the MSC group than in the control group on days 3 and 7 after the treatment. The capillary / muscle fiber ratio in ischemic muscle was also significantly higher in the MSC group than in the controls in a histological study. In spite of these benefits, we found no evident engraftment of the GFP-positive cells, and instead, the MSC treatment induced a proliferation of resident stromal cells in the perivascular area of the ischemic muscle, some of which produced vascular endothelial growth factor. The present study suggested that MSC therapy promotes neovascularization even in the early phase, both directly through endothelial proliferation and indirectly through activation of the resident stromal cells

Association between mental health and bone mass among community-dwelling adults: Nagasaki Islands Study on bone health

Osteoporosis and its related fractures are important public health issues. This study examined the association between the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K6) and low bone mass in middle-aged community-dwelling men and women. A crosssectional study was nested in a prospective observational study of 1,101 participants (median age: 57 [49-62] years in men and 58 [50-62] years in women) residing in a rural city in western Japan. Participants were recruited during medical check-ups in 2016 and 2017 from the community-dwelling population. The bone mass of the calcaneus was evaluated using quantitative ultrasound. Of the participants, 56 men (14.9%) and 144 women (19.9%) had a bone mass of less than 70% of the mean of young adults. Univariate analysis revealed that there was a trend toward lower body mass index (BMI) and higher prevalence of low bone mass with an increase in K6 scores in men but not in women. Logistic regression analysis, adjusting for possible confounders(age, BMI, smoking, drinking habits, exercise habits, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension), showed significant associations between the K6 scores and low bone mass (odds ratio (OR) = 2.66 for the men with 5 to 12 points of K6, OR = 7.51 for men with ≥ 13 of K6, not for women). We showed an association between psychological distress and low bone mass independent of cofounders among community-dwelling middle-aged men but not women. This suggests that healthy mental health in middle-aged men may be a possible target for the prevention of consequent osteoporosis or fragile bone fractures

Search for dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks in √s = 13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

A search for weakly interacting massive particle dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks is presented. Final states containing third-generation quarks and miss- ing transverse momentum are considered. The analysis uses 36.1 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at √s = 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016. No significant excess of events above the estimated backgrounds is observed. The results are in- terpreted in the framework of simplified models of spin-0 dark-matter mediators. For colour- neutral spin-0 mediators produced in association with top quarks and decaying into a pair of dark-matter particles, mediator masses below 50 GeV are excluded assuming a dark-matter candidate mass of 1 GeV and unitary couplings. For scalar and pseudoscalar mediators produced in association with bottom quarks, the search sets limits on the production cross- section of 300 times the predicted rate for mediators with masses between 10 and 50 GeV and assuming a dark-matter mass of 1 GeV and unitary coupling. Constraints on colour- charged scalar simplified models are also presented. Assuming a dark-matter particle mass of 35 GeV, mediator particles with mass below 1.1 TeV are excluded for couplings yielding a dark-matter relic density consistent with measurements
