A Compact Printed Monopole Antenna for Dual-band RFID and WLAN Applications

Design of a simple and compact microstrip-fed printed monopole antenna (PMA) for applications in wireless local area network (WLAN) and radio frequency identification (RFID) is presented. The dual-band operation is achieved from the 9-shaped folded antenna which is printed on a non-conductor backed dielectric. Measured percentage impedance bandwidth of the PMA at the center frequencies of 2.43 GHz and 5.24 GHz are 33.13 (2.14 GHz to 2.99 GHz) and 36.43 (4.40 GHz to 6.36 GHz) respectively. Consistent omnidirectional radiation patterns have been observed in both the frequency bands from the experimental results. The proposed antenna is simple in design and compact in size. It exhibits broadband impedance matching, consistent omnidirectional radiation patterns and appropriate gain characteristics (>2.5 dBi) in the RFID and WLAN frequency regions

Impact of xylan on field productivity and wood saccharification properties in aspen

Xylan that comprises roughly 25% of hardwood biomass is undesirable in biorefinery applications involving saccharification and fermentation. Efforts to reduce xylan levels have therefore been made in many species, usually resulting in improved saccharification. However, such modified plants have not yet been tested under field conditions. Here we evaluate the field performance of transgenic hybrid aspen lines with reduced xylan levels and assess their usefulness as short-rotation feedstocks for biorefineries. Three types of transgenic lines were tested in four-year field tests with RNAi constructs targeting either Populus GT43 clades B and C (GT43BC) corresponding to Arabidopsis clades IRX9 and IRX14, respectively, involved in xylan backbone biosynthesis, GATL1.1 corresponding to AtGALT1 involved in xylan reducing end sequence biosynthesis, or ASPR1 encoding an atypical aspartate protease. Their productivity, wood quality traits, and saccharification efficiency were analyzed. The only lines differing significantly from the wild type with respect to growth and biotic stress resistance were the ASPR1 lines, whose stems were roughly 10% shorter and narrower and leaves showed increased arthropod damage. GT43BC lines exhibited no growth advantage in the field despite their superior growth in greenhouse experiments. Wood from the ASPR1 and GT43BC lines had slightly reduced density due to thinner cell walls and, in the case of ASPR1, larger cell diameters. The xylan was less extractable by alkali but more hydrolysable by acid, had increased glucuronosylation, and its content was reduced in all three types of transgenic lines. The hemicellulose size distribution in the GALT1.1 and ASPR1 lines was skewed towards higher molecular mass compared to the wild type. These results provide experimental evidence that GATL1.1 functions in xylan biosynthesis and suggest that ASPR1 may regulate this process. In saccharification without pretreatment, lines of all three constructs provided 8-11% higher average glucose yields than wild-type plants. In saccharification with acid pretreatment, the GT43BC construct provided a 10% yield increase on average. The best transgenic lines of each construct are thus predicted to modestly outperform the wild type in terms of glucose yields per hectare. Biogeochemical and ecological impacts of boundary currents in the Indian Ocean

Monsoon forcing and the unique geomorphology of the Indian Ocean basin result in complex boundary currents, which are unique in many respects. In the northern Indian Ocean, several boundary current systems reverse seasonally. For example, upwelling coincident with northward-flowing currents along the coast of Oman during the Southwest Monsoon gives rise to high productivity which also alters nutrient stoichiometry and therefore, the species composition of the resulting phytoplankton blooms. During the Northeast Monsoon most of the northern Indian Ocean boundary currents reverse and favor downwelling. Higher trophic level species have evolved behavioral responses to these seasonally changing conditions. Examples from the western Arabian Sea include vertical feeding migrations of a copepod (Calanoides carinatus) and the reproductive cycle of a large pelagic fish (Scomberomorus commerson). The impacts of these seasonal current reversals and changes in upwelling and downwelling circulations are also manifested in West Indian coastal waters, where they influence dissolved oxygen concentrations and have been implicated in massive fish kills. The winds and boundary currents reverse seasonally in the Bay of Bengal, though the associated changes in upwelling and productivity are less pronounced. Nonetheless, their effects are observed on the East Indian shelf as, for example, seasonal changes in copepod abundance and zooplankton community structure. In contrast, south of Sri Lanka seasonal reversals in the boundary currents are associated with dramatic changes in the intensity of coastal upwelling, chlorophyll concentration, and catch per unit effort of fishes. Off the coast of Java, monsoon-driven changes in the currents and upwelling strongly impact chlorophyll concentrations, seasonal vertical migrations of zooplankton, and sardine catch in Bali Strait. In the southern hemisphere the Leeuwin is a downwelling-favorable current that flows southward along western Australia, though local wind forcing can lead to transient near shore current reversals and localized coastal upwelling. The poleward direction of this eastern boundary current is unique. Due to its high kinetic energy the Leeuwin Current sheds anomalous, relatively high chlorophyll, warm-core, downwelling eddies that transport coastal diatom communities westward into open ocean waters. Variations in the Leeuwin transport and eddy generation impact many higher trophic level species including the recruitment and fate of rock lobster (Panulirus cygnus) larvae. In contrast, the transport of the Agulhas Current is very large, with sources derived from the Mozambique Channel, the East Madagascar Current and the southwest Indian Ocean sub-gyre. Dynamically, the Agulhas Current is upwelling favorable; however, the spatial distribution of prominent surface manifestations of upwelling is controlled by local wind and topographic forcing. Meanders and eddies in the Agulhas Current propagate alongshore and interact with seasonal changes in the winds and topographic features. These give rise to seasonally variable localized upwelling and downwelling circulations with commensurate changes in primary production and higher trophic level responses. Due to the strong influence of the Agulhas Current, many neritic fish species in southeast Africa coastal waters have evolved highly selective behaviors and reproductive patterns for successful retention of planktonic eggs and larvae. For example, part of the Southern African sardine (Sardinops sagax) stock undergoes a remarkable northward migration enhanced by transient cyclonic eddies in the shoreward boundary of the Agulhas Current. There is evidence from the paleoceanographic record that these currents and their biogeochemical and ecological impacts have changed significantly over glacial to interglacial timescales. These changes are explored as a means of providing insight into the potential impacts of climate change in the Indian Ocean

Vijayakumari was a commerce graduate, while jagadeesh was an English literature graduate. She was working as a clerk in the state Bank of India, Bangalore. While, Jagadish was self-employed. Both of them fell in love with each other and Ganganna solemnized their marriage even though the parents of Jagadish did not consent to it. Both of them live together at Mysore and then at Bangalore. Both of them developed their love affair when there were under going training in Yoga Camp at Bangalore and latter as both of them become Yoga teachers. She gave birth of a female child and the daughter Radhe who is now studying in a convent school at Ooty. Jagadish started conduction Yoga camp and yoga classes at various places. He extended his business of conduction training up to Coimbatore also. When the reception was very much satisfactory in Coimbatore, he a witched over to Coimbatore with his wife and daughter and setup Yoga Centre in 1992 at Singanallur, Coimbatore duty. He purchased 14 acres of land at Poondi village at the root of Velliangiri Hills and set up a yoga Institution called Isha Yoga Centre and enlisted the residential students of Yoga from both sexes., they were young students of yoga called Barmacharie and Bramacharinis. On 23.1.1997 he received phone calls from Singanallur and she Yoga Poondy that his daughter Vijayakumari was dead and that her cremation would take place at 6.00 A.M. on the following day. Ganganna requested over phone to keep the dead body there no to shift the body for cremation to this arrive. Ganganna reached Isha Yoga Centre along with his wife, daughter and other relatives in a van at 10.00 A.M. on 24.1.97. But the body of Vijayakumari was already cremated at Isha Yoga Centre at 6.00 a.m. on 24.1.1997 and burnt into ashes. Ganganna questioned his son-in-law Jagadish for which there was no reply. To avoid an ugly scene, Ganganna returned to Bangalore on the same day. He gave the complaint to the Commissioner of Police, Bangalore city and the same was registered in Subramania Nagara P.S. did not take any Investigation, but transferred the same FIR to Coimbatore district. The Investigation disclosed the following facts. The Inspector of Police, Alandurai examined Jagadish and all the inmate of Isha Yoga Centre and recorded their statements in connection with the death of Vijayakumari. All of them have cogently stated that both Jagadish Vijayakumari were leading a normal and happy life, that on their crucial day, Jagadish Vijayakumari, and 7 bramacharis and Bramacharinis commence meditation at about 5.45 p.m. in the roof of the residence of Jagadish and Vijayakumari suddenly swooned saying (Sambo) and fall on Bramacharini witness Sumalatha that Dr. Kalaiselvan who was staying at the same Yoga Centre, for his own treatment rushed and examined Vijaykumari and found that she was breathing her last through ‘Jaw Breathing’ that and the body of Vijayakumari was cremated at 6.00 a.m. on the following by inside Yoga Centre in the presence of about 2000 people as it was a full moon day. Jagadish and his followers would call the death of Vijayakumari as a natural called “Mahasamadhi” all the inmates would rule out any chance or evidence of a suspected death of Vijayakumari. The Inspector of Police has taken much paid to examine Dr. Kalaiselvan, the only Medical Officer who has witnessed the very death of Vijayakumari this doctor would categorically denied the possibility of death of Vijaykumari by poison. When specifically questioned by the investigation officer, Dr. Kalaiselvan would certify that death neither a case of suicide or a case of homicide. He has issued a signed certificate also to this affect. This doctor would also say that there were no viable injuries on the body of Vijaykumari. Dr. Kalaiselvan would also certify that it was a case of my cardinal infection (loss of sufficient blood) to the heat. This doctor would claim that he was a qualified doctor with his 15 years of practice. The Inmate of Yoga Centre did not find any significant change in the attitude or behavior of Vijayakumari prior to her death. Her behavior was routine prior to death and she was assisted by other women namely witness Suganthamani Brammacharini witness Sumalathaa in preparing sweets till 5.00 p.m. on that date. Both of them did not notice any abnormal symptom in the health or behavior of Vijayakumari. Thus, all the available direct and circumstantial evidence to the death of Vijayakumari was that she lied of a natural death. But, Jagadish and other inmates of Yoga Centre would claim that Vijayakumari was practicing and to attain “Maha Samathi” on the day of Poornima (full moon day). The complaint was lodged 7 months after the death, of as the body was already cremated there as not chance for holding inquest or conducting post mortem. The Inspector seized a portion of burnt bones and ashes of Vijayakumari and sent it to Forensic Science Laboratory. The report was that it was found to be disintegrated and that no poison could be detected. In such options of any poison, or any incriminating substance, in the ashes and in the absence of post mortem, the oral evidence and certificate of Dr. Kalaiselvan would play a significant role of the medical side of this case. Dr. Kalaiselvan has certificated that it was came which might be due to stress and strain, snake bites, accident or heart disease etc., But there is absolutely no evidence to find out whether Vijayakumari has suffered any of the causes. In short, the accurate cause of death would no be discovered for want of post mortem examination and apparent causes could not be made out in the absence of an inquest over the dead body. Hence the cause of death could not be probed further. The complainant Ganganna has unreasonably caused a delay of about 6 months to give police complaint. He is unable to make out any specific allegations or complain on anybody on the death of Vijayakumari. He could only raise his feelings, sorrow and suspicion, which are not sufficient to built a successful prosecution in a murder. But, in his letter to Jagadish on 30.1.97. has not expressed any suspicion over death of Vijayakumari. In the Circumstance I get Instruction from my superior and obtained. This study comes under BioUPGRADE, which is a collaborative platform to create high-value and multipurpose materials sustainably using biocatalysis. The general aim of this study is to produce holocellulose and hemicellulose substrates from different wood species and produce, purify, and validate galactose oxidase as a potential biocatalyst for wood fiber modification. The study investigates the effect of chemical peracetic acid delignification on two wood species, eucalyptus hardwood (HW), and spruce softwood (SW) investigated at different time intervals, where the PAA was prepared ex-situ with a volumetric ratio of 1:3. With the results from the PAA treatment, 38.53% of lignin was removed in eucalyptus and 31.80% in softwood. The hemicellulose yield increased by 47.40% for eucalyptus and 19.05% for spruce with an increase in the time of PAA treatment. The acetyl content of the hemicellulose was reduced from 2% to 0.6% in hardwood and 1.96% to 0.6% in softwood. The cellulose recovery after the delignification was nearly 100%. The galactose oxidase was produced in a shake flask using the Pichia pastoris KM71H strain. Pichia pastoris KM71H cells were cultivated using the buffered complex glycerol media (BMGY) and galactose oxidase was expressed using the Pichia pastoris KM71H strain in Buffered complex methanol media (BMMY). The expressed GaOx protein was subsequently purified using AKTA chromatography using a 5ml Histrap FF column. To determine the protein concentration Bicinchoninic acid (BCA) analysis was performed and the GaOx produced in shake flask cultivation was 286.25 mg/L. The specific activity of the shake flask produced GaOx is 164.24 U/mg. It can be observed that PAA treatment proves to be an efficient method for delignification as the cellulose recovery is near 100% and the loss of hemicellulose is relatively low with the volumetric ratio used. The GaOx produced in shake flask production shows a promising yield with a significant specific activity towards the galactose as substrate and could be used in the future for the enzymatic upgrading of the wood biomass
