    Optimal Structural Design of Swing Double-Vane Compressor

    In this paper, a novel rotary compressor, namely Swing Double-vane Compressor, was introduced. Based on the working principle of the compressor, thermodynamic model and kinetic model of upper and down vanes, rotor and eccentric shaft were established. Combined with each model, with the working efficiency as the objective function, the main structural sizes were optimally designed for the compressor by optimization algorithm, after which the working efficiency can be to 0.8757 and its theoretical displacement has improved by 66.94% compared with the single-vane compressor. According to this optimal design, it will provide theoretical foundation to improve the performance of the Swing Double-vane Compressor

    Design of Cyber-Physical Systems Architecture for Prognostics and Health Management of High-speed Railway Transportation Systems

    The high-speed railway (HSR) transportation system in China has been growing rapidly during the past decade. In 2016, the total length of HSR in China has reached to 22,000 kilometers, and there are over 2,000 pairs of high speed trains operating daily. With the advancement of design and manufacturing technologies, the reliability and construction costs have been improved significantly. However, there is still great need for reduction of their operation and maintenance costs. With such incentive, a pilot project has been launched to develop a prognostics and health management system for rolling stock to transform the maintenance paradigm from preventive to predictive maintenance. Considering the high task variety and big data environment in HSR real-time monitoring system, a cyberphysical system (CPS) architecture is proposed as the framework for its PHM system. This paper reviews the needs of predictive maintenance for the HSR system, and then present a concept design of the CPS-enabled smart operation and maintenance system

    Heterologous overexpression of Apocynum venetum flavonoids synthetase genes improves Arabidopsis thaliana salt tolerance by activating the IAA and JA biosynthesis pathways

    Salt stress is a serious abiotic stress that primarily inhibits plant growth, resulting in severe yield losses. Our previous research found that flavonoids play important roles in A. venetum salt stress tolerance. In response to salt stress, we noted that the flavonoid content was depleted in A. venetum. However, the detailed mechanism is still not clear. In this study, the expression patterns of three flavonoids synthetase genes, AvF3H, AvF3’H, and AvFLS were systemically analyzed under salt stress in A. venetum seedlings. The salt tolerance of transgenic Arabidopsis plants was improved by heterologous overexpression of these synthetase genes. The NBT and DAB staining results as well as H2O2 and O2•- content analysis revealed that under salt stress, ROS molecules were reduced in transgenic plants compared to WT plants, which corresponded to the activation of the antioxidant enzyme system and an increase in total flavonoid content, particularly rutin, eriodictyol, and naringerin in transgenic plants. External application of flavonoids reduced ROS damage in WT plants just like what we observed in the transgenic plants (without the external application). Additionally, our transcriptome analysis demonstrated that auxin and jasmonic acid biosynthesis genes, as well as signaling transduction genes, were primarily activated in transgenic plants under salt stress, leading to activation of the cell wall biosynthesis or modification genes that promote plant growth. As a result, we investigated the mechanism through flavonoids enhance the salt tolerance, offering a theoretical foundation for enhancing salt tolerance in plants

    Probing NaCl hydrate formation from aqueous solutions by Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy

    The cooling-induced formation of hydrate in aqueous NaCl solutions was probed using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). It was found that the NaCl hydrate formation is accompanied with emergence of four new absorption peaks at 1.60, 2.43, 3.34 and 3.78 THz. Combining the X-ray diffraction measurement with the solid-state based density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we assign the observed terahertz absorption peaks to the vibrational modes of the formed NaCl⋅2H2O hydrate during cooling. This work dedicates THz-TDS based analysis great potential in studying ionic hydrate and the newly revealed collective vibrational modes could be the sensitive indicators to achieve quantitative analysis in phase transitions and lattice dynamics

    Search for dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks in √s = 13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

    A search for weakly interacting massive particle dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks is presented. Final states containing third-generation quarks and miss- ing transverse momentum are considered. The analysis uses 36.1 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at √s = 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016. No significant excess of events above the estimated backgrounds is observed. The results are in- terpreted in the framework of simplified models of spin-0 dark-matter mediators. For colour- neutral spin-0 mediators produced in association with top quarks and decaying into a pair of dark-matter particles, mediator masses below 50 GeV are excluded assuming a dark-matter candidate mass of 1 GeV and unitary couplings. For scalar and pseudoscalar mediators produced in association with bottom quarks, the search sets limits on the production cross- section of 300 times the predicted rate for mediators with masses between 10 and 50 GeV and assuming a dark-matter mass of 1 GeV and unitary coupling. Constraints on colour- charged scalar simplified models are also presented. Assuming a dark-matter particle mass of 35 GeV, mediator particles with mass below 1.1 TeV are excluded for couplings yielding a dark-matter relic density consistent with measurements
