A taxonomic evalution of Alburnus sellal heckel, 1843 and alburnus adanensis Battalgazi, 1944: Based on morphological characters and mitochondrial DNA sequences

    Get PDF
Alburnus sellal inhabits Ceyhan, Euphrates, Orontes and Tigris river basins whereas Alburnus adanensis is geographically restricted to Ceyhan and Seyhan river basins. Due to the very similar morphometric and meristic characteristics, discrimination of these two species is difficult. The most important diagnostic character is the scale numbers in lateral line (73-80 in A. sellal vs 60-66 in A. adanensis) and pronounced lack of the dark grey band on side of the body. In order to clarify the taxonomic status of the A. sellal and A. adanensis, a total of 27 morphological characters and the nucleotide sequence variation of mitochondrial cytochrome b (cyt b) and cytochrome oxidase I (COI) genes were analyzed on the specimens which were from Seyhan, Ceyhan, lower Euphrates and Orontes river basins. The results show high similarity between A. sellal and A. adanensis based on the morphometric and the morphological characters using Principal Component Analyses (PCA). In addition genetic distance of the specimens belonging to two species between 0.000 to 0.011 using COI and cyt b genes sequences. Therefore, our results based on morphology, molecules and nomenclatural priority pointed out that A. adanensis should be evaluated as a synonym of A. sellal.Nevsehir Hacı Bektas Veli University, Scientific Research Project

The protein content ranged from 10.58 to 18.19%, and the carbohydrate composition was between 9.05 and 18.92%. The ash content ranged from 1.53 to 1.99%, and the moisture content of the kernels was between 1.91 and 4.48% the oleic acid content of the oils ranged from 17.90 to 33.35% of the total fatty acids. The linoleic acid content ranged from 43.15 to 60.20%. The linolenic acid content ranged from 9.98 to 13.00%. The palmitic acid content was between 5.21 and 8.40%. Stearic acid ranged from 2.36 to 4.25%. Potassium was the major mineral in all the samples, ranging from 359.73 to 482.97 mg/100 g. Calcium was the next most abundant mineral, ranging from 109.45 to 335.97 mg/100 g, followed by magnesium, ranging from 126.01 to 165.15 mg/100 g

Examination of perception dimension of engineering technology and ergonomics principles in terms of healthcare personnel: a scale development study

    Get PDF
In general terms, ergonomics is the conformity of human and equipment. Unconformity between human and equipment is more likely to give harm either to the equipment or to human. This conformity may go for both daily domestic tasks and work life. Domestic furniture and equipment are designed by taking average features of individuals into consideration. For example; chairs, tables, beds and similar things are manufactured with the measurements which are accepted as standard all over the world. People spend most of their time at their homes and workplaces. Similarly, the ergonomics considered in the manufacture of domestic furniture takes an important place in working life, as well. This is highly significant in terms of both health of workers and efficiency of the work done. On the other hand, ergonomics possesses importance in terms of patients except from workers and work efficiency in health sector. Working in non-ergonomic settings may both endanger health of healthcare personnel and cause decrease in work efficiency as well as posing negative effects for recovery of the patients. From this point of view, ergonomics in health sector becomes more important in many aspects. In this study, it was aimed to develop a scale with regard to finding out perceptions of the healthcare personnel on engineering technologies and ergonomics principles

The outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which emerged in 2019, cut the epoch that will make profound fluctuates in the history of the world in social, economic, and scientific fields. Urgent needs in public health have brought with them innovative approaches, including diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. To exceed the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, various scientific authorities in the world have procreated advances in real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) based diagnostic tests, rapid diagnostic kits, the development of vaccines for immunization, and the purposing pharmaceuticals for treatment. Diagnosis, treatment, and immunization approaches put for- ward by scientific communities are cross-fed from the accrued knowledge of multidisciplinary sciences in health biotechnology. So much so that the pandemic, urgently prioritized in the world, is not only viral infections but also has been the pulsion in the development of novel approaches in many fields such as diagnosis, treatment, translational medicine, virology, mi- crobiology, immunology, functional nano- and bio-materials, bioinformatics, molecular biol- ogy, genetics, tissue engineering, biomedical devices, and artificial intelligence technologies. In this review, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the development of various scientific areas of health biotechnology are discussed

Differential cross section measurements for the production of a W boson in association with jets in proton–proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV

    Get PDF
Measurements are reported of differential cross sections for the production of a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, in association with jets, as a function of several variables, including the transverse momenta (pT) and pseudorapidities of the four leading jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta (HT), and the difference in azimuthal angle between the directions of each jet and the muon. The data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb[superscript −1]. The measured cross sections are compared to predictions from Monte Carlo generators, MadGraph + pythia and sherpa, and to next-to-leading-order calculations from BlackHat + sherpa. The differential cross sections are found to be in agreement with the predictions, apart from the pT distributions of the leading jets at high pT values, the distributions of the HT at high-HT and low jet multiplicity, and the distribution of the difference in azimuthal angle between the leading jet and the muon at low values.United States. Juxtaposing BTE and ATE – on the role of the European insurance industry in funding civil litigation

    Get PDF
One of the ways in which legal services are financed, and indeed shaped, is through private insurance arrangement. Two contrasting types of legal expenses insurance contracts (LEI) seem to dominate in Europe: before the event (BTE) and after the event (ATE) legal expenses insurance. Notwithstanding institutional differences between different legal systems, BTE and ATE insurance arrangements may be instrumental if government policy is geared towards strengthening a market-oriented system of financing access to justice for individuals and business. At the same time, emphasizing the role of a private industry as a keeper of the gates to justice raises issues of accountability and transparency, not readily reconcilable with demands of competition. Moreover, multiple actors (clients, lawyers, courts, insurers) are involved, causing behavioural dynamics which are not easily predicted or influenced. Against this background, this paper looks into BTE and ATE arrangements by analysing the particularities of BTE and ATE arrangements currently available in some European jurisdictions and by painting a picture of their respective markets and legal contexts. This allows for some reflection on the performance of BTE and ATE providers as both financiers and keepers. Two issues emerge from the analysis that are worthy of some further reflection. Firstly, there is the problematic long-term sustainability of some ATE products. Secondly, the challenges faced by policymakers that would like to nudge consumers into voluntarily taking out BTE LEI

Search for stop and higgsino production using diphoton Higgs boson decays

    Get PDF
Results are presented of a search for a "natural" supersymmetry scenario with gauge mediated symmetry breaking. It is assumed that only the supersymmetric partners of the top-quark (stop) and the Higgs boson (higgsino) are accessible. Events are examined in which there are two photons forming a Higgs boson candidate, and at least two b-quark jets. In 19.7 inverse femtobarns of proton-proton collision data at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV, recorded in the CMS experiment, no evidence of a signal is found and lower limits at the 95% confidence level are set, excluding the stop mass below 360 to 410 GeV, depending on the higgsino mass
