    Didatic methodology to calibrate an ultrasound phased array system

    Non-destructive testing (NDT) is an extensive field that plays a vital role in determining the functioning of systems and components. This work describes a didactic methodology to calibrate the OmniScan MX2 equipment manufactured by Olympus which is based phase in phased array ultrasound technology. In this study was used an ultrasonic transducer (SA10- N55S 5L16) composed by sixteen linear array elements.     Pd and Pd-Cu supported on different carbon materials and immobilized as flow-through catalytic membranes for the chemical reduction of NO3, NO2-and BrO3- in drinking water treatment

    Powdered catalysts are commonly used in lab-scale tests for the catalytic reduction of oxoanions in drinking water, but their powder nature limits their application at full scale. In this work, Pd and Pd-Cu catalysts (5% wt.) supported on carbon materials with different structural properties, in powder form, were used to prepare catalytic membranes that were tested in a reactor with flow-through configuration (FTCMR) to study their performance in the reduction of NO3-, NO2- and BrO3-. Pd catalytic membranes showed high activity in the reduction of NO2-, being the selectivity to NH4+ lower than 2% at 80% NO2- conversion in all cases. In BrO3- reduction, they exhibited a wide range of conversions being the catalyst supported on materials with high conductivity the most active ones, which may be ascribed to the charge distribution at the metal-carbon interface. NO3- reduction using Pd-Cu catalytic membranes showed that catalysts supported on materials with small nanoparticle size and low electrical conductivity exhibited higher selectivity to NH4+. FTCMR led to a good control of H2 transfer and availability in the active sites, facilitating the tuning of H2 availability conditions to preserve the activity, while maintaining/diminishing selectivity to NH4+. In simultaneous oxoanions reduction tests, NO3- reduction was inhibited by Br species, probably by affection of the Pd-Cu redox cycle.     Modelling benefits, costs and affordability of a novel gene therapy in hemophilia A

    Abstract The objective was to assess undertake an early cost-effectiveness assessment of valoctocogene roxaparvovec (valrox;Roctavian®) compared to factor (F)VIII prophylaxis or emicizumab (Hemlibra®) in patients with severe Hemophilia A (HA) without FVIII-antibodies. Secondary, weWe also aimed to incorporate and quantify novel measures of value such as treatment durability, maximum value-based price (MVBP) and break-even time (i.e., time until benefits begin to offset upfront payment). We constructed a A Markov-model was constructed to model bleeds over time which were linked to costs and quality-of-life decrements. In the valrox arm, FVIII% over time were first estimated combining initial effect and treatment waning and then linked to bleeds. In FVIII- and emicizumab-arms, bleeds were based on trial evidence. Evidence and assumptions were validated using via expert elicitation. Model robustness was tested via sensitivity analyses. A Dutch societal perspective was applied with a 10-year time-horizon. Valrox in comparison to FVIII, and emicizumab showed small increases in quality-adjusted life years atand lower costs, and was therefore dominant. Valrox’ base case MVBP was estimated at €2.65 million/treatment compared to FVIII and €3.5 million/treatment versus to emicizumab. Mean break-even time was 8.03 years compared to FVIII and 5.68 years to emicizumab. Early modelling cost-effectiveness analysis Treatment of patients with HA in the Netherlands treated with valrox was estimated to resultresulted in estimated improved health and lower cost compared to prophylactic FVIII and emicizumab. We also demonstrated feasibility to of incorporation ofmodelincorporate treatment durability was demonstrated and , as well as quantification of novel outcomes such as value-based pricing scenarios and break-even ti¬me. However, more work is needed to beter characterize uncertainties, define affordability and increase informativeness for decision making. Future work should aim to better characterize uncertainties and increase translation of early economic evaluationsmodelling to direct research efforts

    Measurement of the polarisation of W bosons produced with large transverse momentum in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment

    This paper describes an analysis of the angular distribution of W->enu and W->munu decays, using data from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2010, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 35 pb^-1. Using the decay lepton transverse momentum and the missing transverse energy, the W decay angular distribution projected onto the transverse plane is obtained and analysed in terms of helicity fractions f0, fL and fR over two ranges of W transverse momentum (ptw): 35 < ptw < 50 GeV and ptw > 50 GeV. Good agreement is found with theoretical predictions. For ptw > 50 GeV, the values of f0 and fL-fR, averaged over charge and lepton flavour, are measured to be : f0 = 0.127 +/- 0.030 +/- 0.108 and fL-fR = 0.252 +/- 0.017 +/- 0.030, where the first uncertainties are statistical, and the second include all systematic effects.Comment: 19 pages plus author list (34 pages total), 9 figures, 11 tables, revised author list, matches European Journal of Physics C versio

    Observation of a new chi_b state in radiative transitions to Upsilon(1S) and Upsilon(2S) at ATLAS

    The chi_b(nP) quarkonium states are produced in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector. Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.4 fb^-1, these states are reconstructed through their radiative decays to Upsilon(1S,2S) with Upsilon->mu+mu-. In addition to the mass peaks corresponding to the decay modes chi_b(1P,2P)->Upsilon(1S)gamma, a new structure centered at a mass of 10.530+/-0.005 (stat.)+/-0.009 (syst.) GeV is also observed, in both the Upsilon(1S)gamma and Upsilon(2S)gamma decay modes.
