Unconventional spin fluctuations in the hexagonal antiferromagnet YMnO
We used inelastic neutron scattering to show that well below its N\'{e}el
temperature, , the two-dimensional (2D) XY nearly-triangular
antiferromagnet YMnO has a prominent {\it central peak} associated with
2D antiferromagnetic fluctuations with a characteristic life time of 0.55(5)
ps, coexisting with the conventional long-lived spin-waves. Existence of the
two time scales suggests competition between the N\'{e}el phase favored by weak
interplane interactions, and the Kosterlitz-Thouless phase intrinsic to the 2D
XY spin system.Comment: 4pages, 5figure
Short Strings and Gluon Propagator in the Infrared Region
We discuss how infrared region influence on short distance physics via new
object, called ``short string''. This object exists in confining theories and
violates the operator product expansion. Most analytical results are obtained
for the dual Abelian Higgs theory, while phenomenological arguments are given
for QCD.Comment: LATTICE99(confine) - 6 page
Giant magnetothermopower of magnon-assisted transport in ferromagnetic tunnel junctions
We present a theoretical description of the thermopower due to
magnon-assisted tunneling in a mesoscopic tunnel junction between two
ferromagnetic metals. The thermopower is generated in the course of thermal
equilibration between two baths of magnons, mediated by electrons. For a
junction between two ferromagnets with antiparallel polarizations, the ability
of magnon-assisted tunneling to create thermopower depends on the
difference between the size of the majority and
minority band Fermi surfaces and it is proportional to a temperature dependent
factor where is the magnon Debye
energy. The latter factor reflects the fractional change in the net
magnetization of the reservoirs due to thermal magnons at temperature
(Bloch's law). In contrast, the contribution of magnon-assisted
tunneling to the thermopower of a junction with parallel polarizations is
negligible. As the relative polarizations of ferromagnetic layers can be
manipulated by an external magnetic field, a large difference results in a magnetothermopower effect. This
magnetothermopower effect becomes giant in the extreme case of a junction
between two half-metallic ferromagnets, .Comment: 9 pages, 4 eps figure
Leptogenesis, CP violation and neutrino data: What can we learn?
A detailed analytic and numerical study of baryogenesis through leptogenesis
is performed in the framework of the standard model of electroweak interactions
extended by the addition of three right-handed neutrinos, leading to the seesaw
mechanism. We analyze the connection between GUT-motivated relations for the
quark and lepton mass matrices and the possibility of obtaining a viable
leptogenesis scenario. In particular, we analyze whether the constraints
imposed by SO(10) GUTs can be compatible with all the available solar,
atmospheric and reactor neutrino data and, simultaneously, be capable of
producing the required baryon asymmetry via the leptogenesis mechanism. It is
found that the Just-So^2 and SMA solar solutions lead to a viable leptogenesis
even for the simplest SO(10) GUT, while the LMA, LOW and VO solar solutions
would require a different hierarchy for the Dirac neutrino masses in order to
generate the observed baryon asymmetry. Some implications on CP violation at
low energies and on neutrinoless double beta decay are also considered.Comment: 36 pages, 6 figures; new references added, final version to appear in

Multiaxial Fatigue Assessment of Friction Stir Welded Tubular Joints of Al 6082-T6
The present paper addresses the problem of designing aluminium friction stir (FS) welded
joints against multiaxial fatigue. After developing a bespoke FS welding technology
suitable for joining aluminium tubes, some one hundred welded tubular specimens of Al
6082-T6 were tested under pure axial, pure torsional and biaxial tension-torsion loading.
The influence was explored of two independent variables, namely the proportional or nonproportional
nature of the biaxial loading and the effect of axial and torsional non-zero
mean stresses. The experimental results were re-analysed using the Modified Wöhler
Curve Method (MWCM), with this bi-parametrical critical plane approach being applied in
terms of nominal stresses, notch stresses, and also the Point Method. The validation
exercise carried out using these experimental data demonstrated that the MWCM is
applicable to prediction of the fatigue lives for these FS welded joints, with its use resulting
in life estimates that fall within the uniaxial and torsional calibration scatter bands. The
approach proposed in the present paper offers, for the first time, a complete solution to the
problem of designing tubular FS welded joints against multiaxial fatigue loading
System Size and Energy Dependence of Jet-Induced Hadron Pair Correlation Shapes in Cu+Cu and Au+Au Collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 and 62.4 GeV
We present azimuthal angle correlations of intermediate transverse momentum
(1-4 GeV/c) hadrons from {dijets} in Cu+Cu and Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) =
62.4 and 200 GeV. The away-side dijet induced azimuthal correlation is
broadened, non-Gaussian, and peaked away from \Delta\phi=\pi in central and
semi-central collisions in all the systems. The broadening and peak location
are found to depend upon the number of participants in the collision, but not
on the collision energy or beam nuclei. These results are consistent with sound
or shock wave models, but pose challenges to Cherenkov gluon radiation models.Comment: 464 authors from 60 institutions, 6 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables.

Improved Measurement of Double Helicity Asymmetry in Inclusive Midrapidity pi^0 Production for Polarized p+p Collisions at sqrt(s)=200 GeV
We present an improved measurement of the double helicity asymmetry for pi^0
production in polarized proton-proton scattering at sqrt(s) = 200 GeV employing
the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The
improvements to our previous measurement come from two main factors: Inclusion
of a new data set from the 2004 RHIC run with higher beam polarizations than
the earlier run and a recalibration of the beam polarization measurements,
which resulted in reduced uncertainties and increased beam polarizations. The
results are compared to a Next to Leading Order (NLO) perturbative Quantum
Chromodynamics (pQCD) calculation with a range of polarized gluon
distributions.Comment: 389 authors, 4 pages, 2 tables, 1 figure. Submitted to Phys. Rev. D,

The PHENIX Experiment at RHIC
The physics emphases of the PHENIX collaboration and the design and current
status of the PHENIX detector are discussed. The plan of the collaboration for
making the most effective use of the available luminosity in the first years of
RHIC operation is also presented.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure. Further details of the PHENIX physics program

Formation of dense partonic matter in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC: Experimental evaluation by the PHENIX collaboration
Extensive experimental data from high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions were
recorded using the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider
(RHIC). The comprehensive set of measurements from the first three years of
RHIC operation includes charged particle multiplicities, transverse energy,
yield ratios and spectra of identified hadrons in a wide range of transverse
momenta (p_T), elliptic flow, two-particle correlations, non-statistical
fluctuations, and suppression of particle production at high p_T. The results
are examined with an emphasis on implications for the formation of a new state
of dense matter. We find that the state of matter created at RHIC cannot be
described in terms of ordinary color neutral hadrons.Comment: 510 authors, 127 pages text, 56 figures, 1 tables, LaTeX. Submitted
