Coarse grained approach for volume conserving models
Volume conserving surface (VCS) models without deposition and evaporation, as
well as ideal molecular-beam epitaxy models, are prototypes to study the
symmetries of conserved dynamics. In this work we study two similar VCS models
with conserved noise, which differ from each other by the axial symmetry of
their dynamic hopping rules. We use a coarse-grained approach to analyze the
models and show how to determine the coefficients of their corresponding
continuous stochastic differential equation (SDE) within the same universality
class. The employed method makes use of small translations in a test space
which contains the stationary probability density function (SPDF). In case of
the symmetric model we calculate all the coarse-grained coefficients of the
related conserved Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation. With respect to the
symmetric model, the asymmetric model adds new terms which have to be analyzed,
first of all the diffusion term, whose coarse-grained coefficient can be
determined by the same method. In contrast to other methods, the used formalism
allows to calculate all coefficients of the SDE theoretically and within limits
numerically. Above all, the used approach connects the coefficients of the SDE
with the SPDF and hence gives them a precise physical meaning.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures, 2 table
Instantons of M(atrix) Theory in PP-Wave Background
M(atrix) theory in PP-wave background possesses a discrete set of classical
vacua, all of which preserves 16 supersymmetry and interpretable as collection
of giant gravitons. We find Euclidean instanton solutions that interpolate
between them, and analyze their properties. Supersymmetry prevents direct
mixing between different vacua but still allows effect of instanton to show up
in higher order effective interactions, such as analog of v^4 interaction of
flat space effective theory. An explicit construction of zero modes is
performed, and Goldstone zero modes, bosonic and fermionic, are identified. We
further generalize this to massive M(atrix) theory that includes fundamental
hypermultiplets, corresponding to insertion of longitudinal fivebranes in the
background. After a brief comparison to their counterpart in AdS\times S, we

Universal scaling of the Hall resistivity in MgB2 superconductors
The mixed-state Hall resistivity and the longitudinal resistivity in
superconducting MgB2 thin films have been investigated as a function of the
magnetic field over a wide range of current densities from 100 to 10000 A/cm^2.
We observe a universal Hall scaling behavior with a constant exponent of 2.0,
which is independent of the magnetic field, the temperature, and the current
density. This result can be interpreted well within the context of recent

Supersymmetry and Branes in M-theory Plane-waves
We study brane embeddings in M-theory plane-waves and their supersymmetry.
The relation with branes in AdS backgrounds via the Penrose limit is also
explored. Longitudinal planar branes are originated from AdS branes while giant
gravitons of AdS spaces become spherical branes which are realized as fuzzy

Nonequilibrium phase transitions induced by multiplicative noise: effects of self-correlation
A recently introduced lattice model, describing an extended system which
exhibits a reentrant (symmetry-breaking, second-order) noise-induced
nonequilibrium phase transition, is studied under the assumption that the
multiplicative noise leading to the transition is colored. Within an effective
Markovian approximation and a mean-field scheme it is found that when the
self-correlation time of the noise is different from zero, the transition is
also reentrant with respect to the spatial coupling D. In other words, at
variance with what one expects for equilibrium phase transitions, a large
enough value of D favors disorder. Moreover, except for a small region in the
parameter subspace determined by the noise intensity and D, an increase in the
self-correlation time usually preventsthe formation of an ordered state. These

Global Search for New Physics with 2.0/fb at CDF
Data collected in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron are searched for
indications of new electroweak-scale physics. Rather than focusing on
particular new physics scenarios, CDF data are analyzed for discrepancies with
the standard model prediction. A model-independent approach (Vista) considers
gross features of the data, and is sensitive to new large cross-section
physics. Further sensitivity to new physics is provided by two additional
algorithms: a Bump Hunter searches invariant mass distributions for "bumps"
that could indicate resonant production of new particles; and the Sleuth
procedure scans for data excesses at large summed transverse momentum. This
combined global search for new physics in 2.0/fb of ppbar collisions at
sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV reveals no indication of physics beyond the standard model.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures. Final version which appeared in Physical Review D

Observation of Orbitally Excited B_s Mesons
We report the first observation of two narrow resonances consistent with
states of orbitally excited (L=1) B_s mesons using 1 fb^{-1} of ppbar
collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the
Fermilab Tevatron. We use two-body decays into K^- and B^+ mesons reconstructed
as B^+ \to J/\psi K^+, J/\psi \to \mu^+ \mu^- or B^+ \to \bar{D}^0 \pi^+,
\bar{D}^0 \to K^+ \pi^-. We deduce the masses of the two states to be m(B_{s1})
= 5829.4 +- 0.7 MeV/c^2 and m(B_{s2}^*) = 5839.7 +- 0.7 MeV/c^2.Comment: Version accepted and published by Phys. Rev. Let
Anisotropic flow of charged hadrons, pions and (anti-)protons measured at high transverse momentum in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
The elliptic, , triangular, , and quadrangular, , azimuthal
anisotropic flow coefficients are measured for unidentified charged particles,
pions and (anti-)protons in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Results obtained with the
event plane and four-particle cumulant methods are reported for the
pseudo-rapidity range at different collision centralities and as a
function of transverse momentum, , out to GeV/.
The observed non-zero elliptic and triangular flow depends only weakly on
transverse momentum for GeV/. The small dependence
of the difference between elliptic flow results obtained from the event plane
and four-particle cumulant methods suggests a common origin of flow
fluctuations up to GeV/. The magnitude of the (anti-)proton
elliptic and triangular flow is larger than that of pions out to at least
GeV/ indicating that the particle type dependence persists out

Centrality dependence of charged particle production at large transverse momentum in Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
The inclusive transverse momentum () distributions of primary
charged particles are measured in the pseudo-rapidity range as a
function of event centrality in Pb-Pb collisions at
TeV with ALICE at the LHC. The data are presented in the range
GeV/ for nine centrality intervals from 70-80% to 0-5%.
The Pb-Pb spectra are presented in terms of the nuclear modification factor
using a pp reference spectrum measured at the same collision
energy. We observe that the suppression of high- particles strongly
depends on event centrality. In central collisions (0-5%) the yield is most
suppressed with at -7 GeV/. Above
GeV/, there is a significant rise in the nuclear modification
factor, which reaches for GeV/. In
peripheral collisions (70-80%), the suppression is weaker with almost independently of . The measured nuclear
