    CONTAGEM AUTOMÁTICA E MICROSCÓPICA DIRETA DAS CÉLULAS SOMÁTICAS DO LEITE DE OVELHAS DA RAÇA LACAUNE, UTILIZANDO COMO CORANTES O ROSENFELD E VERDE DE METIL E PIRONINA-Y

    O presente estudo teve como objetivo a anĂĄlise da celularidade, a comparação dos diferentes mĂ©todos de contagem celular e a quantificação dos diferentes tipos celulares presentes no leite de ovelha da raça Lacaune atravĂ©s da contagem de cĂ©lulas somĂĄticas (CCS) automĂĄtica e da CCS microscĂłpica. Coraram-se os esfregaços lĂĄcteos com os corantes verde de metil e pironina-Y e Rosenfeld. O valor mediano da contagem celular automĂĄtica foi de 0,145 x106 cĂ©lulas/mL de leite, e os valores das contagens microscĂłpicas diretas utilizando verde de metil e pironina-Y e Rosenfeld foram respectivamente de 0,157 e 0,193 x106 cĂ©lulas/mL de leite. Avaliaram-se as amostras destinadas Ă s contagens microscĂłpicas diretas de acordo com os diferentes tipos celulares, encontrando-se os valores de 0,094 e 0,14 x106 cĂ©lulas mononucleares/mL, 0,063 e 0,051 x106 cĂ©lulas polimorfonuclares/mL de leite na coloração de verde de metil e pironina-Y e Rosenfeld, respectivamente. Portanto, pode-se concluir que houve diferenças entre os mĂ©todos de contagem celular. Com o corante verde de metil e pironina-Y e a contagem automĂĄtica, o nĂșmero de cĂ©lulas encontrado foi inferior, quando comparados com a microscopia direta utilizando o corante de Rosenfeld.     Search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos in events with three leptons and missing transverse momentum in √s = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

    A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with three electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum is presented. The analysis is based on 4.7 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded with the ATLAS detector. Observations are consistent with Standard Model expectations in three signal regions that are either depleted or enriched in Z-boson decays. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in R-parity conserving phenomenological minimal supersymmetric models and in simplified models, significantly extending previous results

    Jet size dependence of single jet suppression in lead-lead collisions at sqrt(s(NN)) = 2.76 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

    Measurements of inclusive jet suppression in heavy ion collisions at the LHC provide direct sensitivity to the physics of jet quenching. In a sample of lead-lead collisions at sqrt(s) = 2.76 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 7 inverse microbarns, ATLAS has measured jets with a calorimeter over the pseudorapidity interval |eta| < 2.1 and over the transverse momentum range 38 < pT < 210 GeV. Jets were reconstructed using the anti-kt algorithm with values for the distance parameter that determines the nominal jet radius of R = 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5. The centrality dependence of the jet yield is characterized by the jet "central-to-peripheral ratio," Rcp. Jet production is found to be suppressed by approximately a factor of two in the 10% most central collisions relative to peripheral collisions. Rcp varies smoothly with centrality as characterized by the number of participating nucleons. The observed suppression is only weakly dependent on jet radius and transverse momentum. These results provide the first direct measurement of inclusive jet suppression in heavy ion collisions and complement previous measurements of dijet transverse energy imbalance at the LHC.Comment: 15 pages plus author list (30 pages total), 8 figures, 2 tables, submitted to Physics Letters B.     Influence of particle size on appearance and in vitro efficacy of sunscreens

    Nanotechnology applies to diverse sectors of science. In cosmetic area, investments have strengthened the idea that nanoproducts provide innumerable benefits to consumers. Extreme exposition to solar light can cause undesirable effects, thus, adding UV filters in cosmetic products are often used as prevention. Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate and benzophenone-3 are UV filters widely used in sunscreen formulations, this UV filters absorb UVB and UVA radiation, respectively. In this study, sunscreen formulations were developed as nano and macroemulsion, but composed by the same raw material. Nanoemulsion was obtained by phase inversion temperature method (PIT). Physical and functional properties were evaluated by visual analysis, particle size distribution and by diffuse reflectance spectrophotometry. Achieved nanoemulsion showed bluish brightness aspect, less apparent consistency than macroemulsion, stability longer than 48 hours (22.0 ± 2.0 °C) and bimodal particle size distribution with average (mean) sizes around 10 nm (61%) and 4.5 ”m (39%). Macroemulsion showed milky aspect, higher consistency than nanoemulsion, instability after 48 hours (22.0 ± 2.0 °C) and bimodal particle size distribution with average (mean) size around 202 nm (9%) and 10.4 ”m (91%). Effectiveness profile of sunscreen formulations remained apparently similar, based on achieved results of in vitro SPF, UVA/UVB ratio and critical wavelength assays
