A three-headed plantaris muscle fused with Kaplan fibers: potential clinical significance

    Get PDF
The plantaris is a short, small muscle that usually originates at the popliteal surface of the femur and has a long, thin tendon that typically inserts into the calcaneal tuberosity. Its role and degree of development have been objects of debate for years. Some authors consider it a vestigial muscle while others believe it is a process of its development. The clinical significance of plantaris muscle is usually related to its morphological variation, which is common and well described in the literature. These variations are often a risk factor for many ailments and disorders. We would like to present another, very rare case of three-headed plantaris muscle (fused with distal Kaplan fibers), and consider what clinical implications it may have

A multi-country test of brief reappraisal interventions on emotions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased negative emotions and decreased positive emotions globally. Left unchecked, these emotional changes might have a wide array of adverse impacts. To reduce negative emotions and increase positive emotions, we tested the effectiveness of reappraisal, an emotion-regulation strategy that modifies how one thinks about a situation. Participants from 87 countries and regions (n = 21,644) were randomly assigned to one of two brief reappraisal interventions (reconstrual or repurposing) or one of two control conditions (active or passive). Results revealed that both reappraisal interventions (vesus both control conditions) consistently reduced negative emotions and increased positive emotions across different measures. Reconstrual and repurposing interventions had similar effects. Importantly, planned exploratory analyses indicated that reappraisal interventions did not reduce intentions to practice preventive health behaviours. The findings demonstrate the viability of creating scalable, low-cost interventions for use around the world

    Family in South Korea.

The subject of the master thesis is South Korean family and the transformations which takes place in it’s structure. The thesis describes aspect of contemporary family. The roots of research is traditional, pre-modern model of family based primarily on Confucian. To analyze the family in the Republic of Korea during the past few decades the demographic analysis tools were being used. Important part of the study is correlations between family condition and other factors i.e. economy. The thesis particularly emphasizes the constantly changing labor market. Substantial part of the research is an analysis of Korean government actions in the field of demographic policy

Heat transfer investigations in a liquid that is mixed by means of a multi-ribbon mixer

The objective of this paper is to present the investigations of the heat transfer process carried out by means of the multi-ribbon mixer. It is shown that the heat transfer process for the synergic effect of the mixing process and the flowing liquid through the mixer has significantly higher values of the heat transfer coefficients than the mixer with motionless impellers. The empirical correlations between the heat transfer coefficient and the operational parameters obtained in this work can provide guidance for the design and operation of an apparatus equipped with the multi-ribbon impeller. These empirical correlations can be used to predict the heat transfer coefficient for the multi-ribbon mixer
