Diagnóstico da agricultura orgânica no Brasil.

A agricultura orgânica ou ecológica tem-se destacado como uma das alternativas de renda para os pequenos, médios e grandes produtores, principalmente, devido à crescente demanda mundial por alimentos mais saudáveis. Com o objetivo de realizar um amplo diagnóstico sobre a situação atual e as perspectivas da agricultura orgânica no Brasil, foram desenvolvidos temas relativos aos aspectos históricos, as condições de certificação, os tipos e como ela atua, a organização do setor de produção, a distribuição e o mercado interno e externo, bem como, a legislação que disciplina esses processos, o impacto ambiental da agricultura orgânica em relação à agricultura convencional, os principais problemas ligados ao setor, o futuro da agricultura orgânica visto pela pesquisa e os principais obstáculos. Por último, desafios e sugestão de ações que caberiam ao setor público, à pesquisa e aos agricultores familiares para que a oportunidade dessa agricultura possa ser melhor aproveitada por esse grupo de produtores e o desenvolvimento sustentável alcançado

Antimicrobial resistance of isolated Streptococcus pneumoniae in a hospital of the Brazilian public system

Streptococcus pneumoniae is the predominant bacterial agent that affects the human population with pneumonia. This disease is an important cause of death in the elderly and the children under five years old. in this study, 29 strains of invasive S. pneumoniae were isolated from 29 patients of pneumonia, bacteremia and meningitis in the laboratory of the Municipal Hospital in Paulinia, Brazil, from May 2006 to October 2007. Patients' age ranged from 8 months old to 60 years old. These strains of S. pneumoniae were isolated from blood, pleural fluid and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients. After typing of encapsulated strains of S. pneumoniae through quellung reaction, their resistance to antimicrobial agents was gauged through Disc Diffusion Technique followed by determination of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). Among the 29 strains analyzed, 23 were methicillin-sensitive and six were methicillin-resistant and penicillin intermediate resistant. No strain presented full resistance to penicillin. Serotyping was performed only in two samples, which belonged to serotype 18. Effectiveness and safety of levosimendan in clinical practice

BACKGROUND: In previous randomized studies levosimendan improved hemodynamics and clinical course, with a still unclear effect on prognosis. There are, however, few data regarding its effects when used in daily practice. AIMS: We evaluated the clinical effectiveness and safety of levosimendan in the treatment of acute systolic heart failure (SHF) in daily practice conditions. METHODS: In this prospective, multicenter, nonrandomized trial, a continuous infusion of levosimendan (0.05 microg/kg/min-0.2 microg/kg/min) was administered for 24 hours. An optional loading dose of 12 microg/kg over 10 minutes was used. The primary combined endpoint of clinical effectiveness (as defined by a eight-variable clinical score) and safety (defined by the absence of serious adverse events) was assessed at 24 hours after the beginning of treatment; a second similar primary combined endpoint was assessed at 5 days. RESULTS: One hundred and twenty-nine consecutive patients requiring inotropes despite optimal oral background heart failure therapy were recruited. The primary endpoint was reached in 80.6% at 24 hours and in 79.7% at 5 days. During the six months before levosimendan the number of patient days of hospitalization for heart failure was 14.9 +/- 14.6 versus 3.1 +/- 7.6 during the six months following levosimendan (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: In daily practice, levosimendan was clinically effective and safe in 80.6% and 79.7% of patients with acute SHF at 24 hours and 5 days respectively after the beginning of treatment. A marked reduction in the number of days of hospitalization for heart failure was also seen during the subsequent six months

Transcultural adaptation of the Emotion Matching Task: an emotion neuropsychological assessment

Emotions play a central role in children’s relationships. Deficits in emotional understanding have been associated with several neuropsychiatric disorders. In Brazil, however, few psychological instruments are available to assess young children’s emotional development. The objective of the present study was to make a transcultural adaptation of the Emotion Matching Task (EMT). The EMT was translated and adapted by a team of bilingual researches and then back-translated to English. The preliminary versions were assessed by EMT’s authors and by Brazilians specialized judges. The final version was applied in a sample of 50 children between three and six years of age and answered by nine judges in three Brazilian states. The results indicate good semantic equivalence and good agreement with the answers provided (κ= 0.88, Z=95.2, p<0.001). The final version of the EMT was considered appropriate and satisfactory

Measurement of the cross-section and charge asymmetry of WW bosons produced in proton-proton collisions at s=8\sqrt{s}=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

This paper presents measurements of the $W^+ \rightarrow \mu^+\nu$ and $W^- \rightarrow \mu^-\nu$ cross-sections and the associated charge asymmetry as a function of the absolute pseudorapidity of the decay muon. The data were collected in proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 20.2~\mbox{fb^{-1}}. The precision of the cross-section measurements varies between 0.8% to 1.5% as a function of the pseudorapidity, excluding the 1.9% uncertainty on the integrated luminosity. The charge asymmetry is measured with an uncertainty between 0.002 and 0.003. The results are compared with predictions based on next-to-next-to-leading-order calculations with various parton distribution functions and have the sensitivity to discriminate between them.Comment: 38 pages in total, author list starting page 22, 5 figures, 4 tables, submitted to EPJC. Search for chargino-neutralino production with mass splittings near the electroweak scale in three-lepton final states in √s=13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

A search for supersymmetry through the pair production of electroweakinos with mass splittings near the electroweak scale and decaying via on-shell W and Z bosons is presented for a three-lepton final state. The analyzed proton-proton collision data taken at a center-of-mass energy of √s=13  TeV were collected between 2015 and 2018 by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139  fb−1. A search, emulating the recursive jigsaw reconstruction technique with easily reproducible laboratory-frame variables, is performed. The two excesses observed in the 2015–2016 data recursive jigsaw analysis in the low-mass three-lepton phase space are reproduced. Results with the full data set are in agreement with the Standard Model expectations. They are interpreted to set exclusion limits at the 95% confidence level on simplified models of chargino-neutralino pair production for masses up to 345 GeV
