    A Cross-Sectional Study to Assess Quality of Care and Patient Satisfaction Using Theranow Telerehabilitation Program Post-THR and TKR Surgeries

    Purpose: to study the quality of care and satisfaction of patients using a telerehabilitation program after THR and TKR surgeries by checking their NPS Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among the 40 patients planned for TKR and/or THR surgeries and participating in TheraNow telerehabilitation program. Net Promoter Score scale was used to assess patient’s satisfaction and the likelihood of recommending TheraNow telerehabilitation program to others. Patients were asked to rate their satisfaction level on a scale of 0-10 after the program, 0 being the least satisfied and 10 being the most. Demographic details of the patients were also recorded. Results: Out of 40 Patients, 17 (42.5%) were males and 23 (57.5%) were females. The overall mean age of the study population was 65.20+8.41. The maximum number of patients (42.5%) belonged to 61-70 years of age group followed by the 71-80 years of age group (27.5%). The national average NPS score for the healthcare industry is 27 but the average NPS score in our study was 93. Conclusion: Excellent levels of patient satisfaction with total joint replacement were found and it shows that most patients who have had either a hip or knee replacement would be happy to recommend TheraNow rehabilitation programs in the future. The average NPS score in our study is 93 which is even more than the national average NPS score for the healthcare industry

    Pancytopenia in Indian Children: A Clinicohematological Analysis

    Objective: To determine the etiological profile of pancytopenia in pediatric patients in India. Material and methods: Medical records review of a 5-year period between 1st September 1997 and 31st August 2002. Clinical and hematological data of all patients with pancytopenia (hemoglobin [Hb] ≤10 g/dL, TLC ≤4 × 109/L, platelet count ≤150 × 109/L) at presentation were analyzed. Patients on cytotoxic chemotherapy, those developing pancytopenia during hospital stay, patients referred from other centers with hematological malignancies and neonates were excluded. Results: Forty-two children (mean age 8.26 years, range 8.5 months to 13 years, M:F : 1:0.8) were included. Megaloblastic anemia, aplastic anemia and infections were commonest causes, being responsible for 25%, 19.6% and 32.1% of the cases, respectively. Bone-marrow aspiration (BMA) was helpful in reaching a definitive diagnosis in 92.8% of those in whom sufficient marrow tissue was retrieved for analysis. Aplastic anemia was the commonest reason for failure of BMA in providing a diagnosis. Conclusions: Majority (almost 60%) of the causes of pancytopenia among pediatric patients in this region are easily treatable.     Measurements of branching fraction ratios and CP-asymmetries in suppressed B^- -> D(-> K^+ pi^-)K^- and B^- -> D(-> K^+ pi^-)pi^- decays

    We report the first reconstruction in hadron collisions of the suppressed decays B^- -> D(-> K^+ pi^-)K^- and B^- -> D(-> K^+ pi^-)pi^-, sensitive to the CKM phase gamma, using data from 7 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider. We reconstruct a signal for the B^- -> D(-> K^+ pi^-)K^- suppressed mode with a significance of 3.2 standard deviations, and measure the ratios of the suppressed to favored branching fractions R(K) = [22.0 \pm 8.6(stat)\pm 2.6(syst)]\times 10^-3, R^+(K) = [42.6\pm 13.7(stat)\pm 2.8(syst)]\times 10^-3, R^-(K)= [3.8\pm 10.3(stat)\pm 2.7(syst]\times 10^-3, as well as the direct CP-violating asymmetry A(K) = -0.82\pm 0.44(stat)\pm 0.09(syst) of this mode.     Search for new physics in events with opposite-sign leptons, jets, and missing transverse energy in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV

    A search is presented for physics beyond the standard model (BSM) in final states with a pair of opposite-sign isolated leptons accompanied by jets and missing transverse energy. The search uses LHC data recorded at a center-of-mass energy sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the CMS detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 5 inverse femtobarns. Two complementary search strategies are employed. The first probes models with a specific dilepton production mechanism that leads to a characteristic kinematic edge in the dilepton mass distribution. The second strategy probes models of dilepton production with heavy, colored objects that decay to final states including invisible particles, leading to very large hadronic activity and missing transverse energy. No evidence for an event yield in excess of the standard model expectations is found. Upper limits on the BSM contributions to the signal regions are deduced from the results, which are used to exclude a region of the parameter space of the constrained minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model.     Measurement of the underlying event activity in pp collisions at √s = 0.9 and 7 TeV with the novel jet-area/median approach

The data were recorded in 2010 with the CMS experiment at the LHC. A new observable, sensitive to soft particle production, is introduced and investigated inclusively and as a function of the event scale defined by the transverse momentum of the leading jet. Various phenomenological models are compared to data, with and without corrections for detector effects.     Search for B_s --> mu+mu- and B_d --> mu+mu- Decays with CDF II

    A search has been performed for B_s --> mu+mu- and B_d --> mu+mu- decays using 7/fb of integrated luminosity collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The observed number of B_d candidates is consistent with background-only expectations and yields an upper limit on the branching fraction of BF(B_d-->mu+mu-) < 6.0E-9 at 95% confidence level. We observe an excess of B_s candidates. The probability that the background processes alone could produce such an excess or larger is 0.27%. The probability that the combination of background and the expected standard model rate of B_s --> mu+mu- could produce such an excess or larger is 1.9%. These data are used to determine BF(B_s-->mu+mu-) = (1.8^{+1.1}_{-0.9})E-8 and provide an upper limit of BF(B_s -->mu+mu-) < 4.0E-8 at 95% confidence level.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure; version accepted by PR

    Search for the standard model Higgs boson in the decay channel H to ZZ to 4 leptons in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV

    A search for a Higgs boson in the four-lepton decay channel H to ZZ, with each Z boson decaying to an electron or muon pair, is reported. The search covers Higgs boson mass hypotheses in the range 110 < mH < 600 GeV. The analysis uses data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 inverse femtobarns recorded by the CMS detector in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV from the LHC. Seventy-two events are observed with four-lepton invariant mass m[4 leptons] > 100 GeV (with thirteen below 160 GeV), while 67.1 +/- 6.0 (9.5 +/-1.3) events are expected from background. The four-lepton mass distribution is consistent with the expectation of standard model background production of ZZ pairs. Upper limits at 95% confidence level exclude the standard model Higgs boson in the ranges 134-158 GeV, 180-305 GeV, and 340 -465 GeV. Small excesses of events are observed around masses of 119, 126, and 320 GeV, making the observed limits weaker than expected in the absence of a signal.Comment: Submitted to Physical Review Letter

    Discutindo a educação ambiental no cotidiano escolar: desenvolvimento de projetos na escola formação inicial e continuada de professores

    A presente pesquisa buscou discutir como a Educação Ambiental (EA) vem sendo trabalhada, no Ensino Fundamental e como os docentes desta escola compreendem e vem inserindo a EA no cotidiano escolar., em uma escola estadual do município de Tangará da Serra/MT, Brasil. Para tanto, realizou-se entrevistas com os professores que fazem parte de um projeto interdisciplinar de EA na escola pesquisada. Verificou-se que o projeto da escola não vem conseguindo alcançar os objetivos propostos por: desconhecimento do mesmo, pelos professores; formação deficiente dos professores, não entendimento da EA como processo de ensino-aprendizagem, falta de recursos didáticos, planejamento inadequado das atividades. A partir dessa constatação, procurou-se debater a impossibilidade de tratar do tema fora do trabalho interdisciplinar, bem como, e principalmente, a importância de um estudo mais aprofundado de EA, vinculando teoria e prática, tanto na formação docente, como em projetos escolares, a fim de fugir do tradicional vínculo “EA e ecologia, lixo e horta”.Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educació
