The Enigmatic Literary Gradations of News as Mass Media Staple/Consumables

    Get PDF
News is the enigmatic representation of factual and sometimes concocted daily events. But the presentation of news as a mass media staple goes beyond the mere portrayal of events as they occur. The journalistic output is mostly defined by gatekeepers and entrepreneurs of media outfits. This study adopts a dispassionate look at news as a mass media literary staple and the contributing factors in news portrayals. It discovered that apart from the heuristic perception of news, there is a conundrum behind news-fare and this conundrum is inherent in the internal factor of the mass media stable’s setup itself (house-style and literary ideology), qualifying factors such as media ownership (entrepreneurship), media system (environment) and external factors such as audience/readership as well as individual’s literary perception of the importance of media fare, and the utility of the news-fare itself. The study proffers a mitigation of these influences on the mass media portrayals in order to resolve the conundrum that media fare has become, and to prevent its perception as media farce. News items should not be reduced to a conundrum due to contrived gatekeeper choices in mass media portrayals. This would play a mitigating role in moderating the resulting perception of news as a ruse or as a mere shibboleth that should be endured for its nuisance value

Role of leptin, Plasminogen activator inhibitor type-1 in the occurrence of atherosclerosis: New insights into the mechanism of obesity-induced atherosclerosis

    Get PDF
Background and aim: The most widespread pathological condition of peripherals and coronary artery disorders, as well as of cerebellar problems, is atherosclerosis (AS). Obesity is the most common nutritional disorder world wide and is one of the major risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Leptin, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) are released by adipose tissue, which is a tissue that is found throughout the body and is considered an important endocrine system, these are essential for the control of immunological and energy responses. Methods:A case-control study was used in the design of the current investigation. 100 male participants, comprising 60 atherosclerosis individuals, 30 obese patients, 30 normal weight patients, and 40 healthy people, 20 of whom were obese and 20 of whom were of normal weight. Age between(40-65). This work was done between November/2022 and May/2023. Patient from the Karbala Center for Cardiac Disease and Surgery. A 3 ml sample of venous blood was obtained from patients and was healthy. In addition, some information was taken from each person(age, height, weight). Results:There has been a significant increase in concentrations of each one of the hormones (Leptin, PAI-1) in all groups when compared with non obese control. Conclusion:leptin and PAI-1 plays a role in the development of atherosclerosis in obese individuals. A person's risk of developing atherosclerosis increases with rising body mass index. It was discovered that the hormone Leptin, which regulates metabolism, is rising, which might be an indicator that the metabolic problem in obese people is becoming more common

Female Oppositional Gaze in Scopic Regime: A Case Study of Tess of the d’Urbervilles

    Get PDF
In the conventional scholarship surrounding Thomas Hardy’s works, Tess is commonly perceived as an object of desire for the male gaze, as well as a victim of the sexual politics of her time. This research addresses this critical issue from a (post-)feminist perspective, with a particular focus on the dimension of the female oppositional gaze. The aim is to explore the defiant gaze strategy that Tess employs when confronted with Alec, a representative of the male Scopic Regime, and to elucidate its profound implications. Through an inquiry into Tess’s use of both external anti-gaze techniques and spiritual insight as means of resistance against the abuser’s attempts at alienation, this essay argues that Tess effectively dissolves, impedes, and ultimately thwarts the abuser’s will to conquer, thus inducing a sense of counter-alienation regarding sexual politics. Consequently, Tess’s oppositional gaze not only contributes to the development of a unique Scopic Regime among British women but also assists in constructing a special visual poetics in the Victorian era

The Cryptic Communication Function of Anagrams in Specific Literary Contexts

    Get PDF
The concept of anagrams as a form of cryptic communication has not gained much currency of usage in our contemporary world, particularly in the global South. Apart from its usage as a pastime in leisure and entertainment activities in games and puzzles, its usage has not transcended these pedantic forms and formats into more professional communicative utilities. This study is interested in investigating the communicative forms and formats inherent in the use of anagrams, especially in cryptic communication. It also hopes to emphasise the historical use of such cryptic systems as anagrams, secret codes, and underground symbolic and literary forms of communication, deliberate misinformation, disinformation and propaganda in our contemporary world. The study is nestled within the “Diffusion of Innovations theory” of mass media, which traces how people adopt a new idea or practice based on the available information. The study avers that much utility is inherent in the adoption of a cryptic communication system that can be derived from anagrams and other forms and systems of discreet, secret or crypto-communication, both for deific, ritualistic, medical, psycho-therapeutic, civilian and militaristic uses.

Additionally, we highlight ongoing research and future directions to optimize the use of tagraxofusp in BPDCN treatment

An Assessment of the Banking Sector Development in Economic Performance: A Case of Selected Countries

    Get PDF
Purpose: The study examines economic growth and banking sector development in some G8 countries (United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and Germany) and three African countries (Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa). Approach/Methodology/Design: Study objectives include filling the gap occasioned by a lack of literature on this topic, especially as it concerns the selected countries. As a check for stationarity, we used the Levin-Lin-Chu and Im-Peseran-Shun unit root tests. In addition to Pedroni, long-run relationships between variables are also tested. Because the study is a cross-country study, it was necessary to perform the Hausman test to determine if random effect panel analysis is consistent and effective and to test long-run cointegration using the ARDL Bound test.  Findings: According to the results, banking sector development, and exchange rate contribute positively to economic growth while CPI contributes negatively. In contrast, the results indicate a long-run relationship between economic growth, banking, and other determinants.   Originality/value: The study recommends that G8 countries and most African countries consider improving their banking sector and incorporating it into their economic development as one of the determinants

The COVID-19 pass-through on the financial system moves      at supersonic speed,      undermining      financial stability with a contraction of claims on the private sector, withdrawing      deposits, and tightening the fiscal      circumstances     . The primary goal      of this research      is to investigate the unprecedented influenceof COVID-19      on the Congolese financial system. An autoregressive Vector Bayesian model is used to test the connection     .      The data utilized is a monthly series from December 2013 to October     2020. The results reveal      that the COVID-19 pandemic has varying degrees of negative impact on      the Congolese financial system. The Congolese government      should immediately      ado     pt macroeconomic and financial policies by boosting and injecting liquidity into      the banking sector to mitigate the negative consequences. At the same time, the expansion of Fintechs on the one hand and the expansion of cyberattacks on the other would enhance the financial system landscape     . To maximize      the digitization      of the financial systems and enhance the effectiveness of cybersecurity, financial institutions should implement intelligent      policies and invest in research. This study is the first to be done in Congo to the authors' best knowledge      and serves      as a battery for further research in Africa and the world
