A Real-Time Electrical Load Forecasting in Jordan Using an Enhanced Evolutionary Feedforward Neural Network
Power system planning and expansion start with forecasting the anticipated future load
requirement. Load forecasting is essential for the engineering perspective and a financial perspective.
It effectively plays a vital role in the conventional monopolistic operation and electrical utility
planning to enhance power system operation, security, stability, minimization of operation cost, and
zero emissions. TwoWell-developed cases are discussed here to quantify the benefits of additional
models, observation, resolution, data type, and how data are necessary for the perception and
evolution of the electrical load forecasting in Jordan. Actual load data for more than a year is
obtained from the leading electricity company in Jordan. These cases are based on total daily demand
and hourly daily demand. This work’s main aim is for easy and accurate computation of week ahead
electrical system load forecasting based on Jordan’s current load measurements. The uncertainties in
forecasting have the potential to waste money and resources. This research proposes an optimized
multi-layered feed-forward neural network using the recent Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO). The
problem of power forecasting is formulated as a minimization problem. The experimental results are
compared with popular optimization methods and show that the proposed method provides very
competitive forecasting results
Metaheuristic design of feedforward neural networks: a review of two decades of research
Over the past two decades, the feedforward neural network (FNN) optimization has been a key interest among the researchers and practitioners of multiple disciplines. The FNN optimization is often viewed from the various perspectives: the optimization of weights, network architecture, activation nodes, learning parameters, learning environment, etc. Researchers adopted such different viewpoints mainly to improve the FNN's generalization ability. The gradient-descent algorithm such as backpropagation has been widely applied to optimize the FNNs. Its success is evident from the FNN's application to numerous real-world problems. However, due to the limitations of the gradient-based optimization methods, the metaheuristic algorithms including the evolutionary algorithms, swarm intelligence, etc., are still being widely explored by the researchers aiming to obtain generalized FNN for a given problem. This article attempts to summarize a broad spectrum of FNN optimization methodologies including conventional and metaheuristic approaches. This article also tries to connect various research directions emerged out of the FNN optimization practices, such as evolving neural network (NN), cooperative coevolution NN, complex-valued NN, deep learning, extreme learning machine, quantum NN, etc. Additionally, it provides interesting research challenges for future research to cope-up with the present information processing era
Optimizing artificial neural networks using LevyChaotic mapping on Wolf Pack optimization algorithm for detect driving sleepiness
Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) are utilized to solve a variety of problems in many domains. In this type of network, training and selecting parameters that define networks architecture play an important role in enhancing the accuracy of the network's output; Therefore, Prior to training, those parameters must be optimized. Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) has been considered one of the efficient developed approaches in the Swarm Intelligence area that is used to solve real-world optimization problems. However, GWO still faces a problem of the slump in local optimums in some places due to insufficient diversity.
This paper proposes a novel algorithm Levy Flight- Chaotic Chen mapping on Wolf Pack Algorithm in Neural Network. It efficiently exploits the search regions to detect driving sleepiness and balance the exploration and exploitation operators, which are considered implied features of any stochastic search algorithm. Due to the lack of dataset availability, a dataset of 15 participants has been collected from scratch to evaluate the proposed algorithm's performance. The results show that the proposed algorithm achieves an accuracy of 99.3%
An Improved Bees Algorithm for Training Deep Recurrent Networks for Sentiment Classification
Recurrent neural networks (RNNs) are powerful tools for learning information from
temporal sequences. Designing an optimum deep RNN is difficult due to configuration and training
issues, such as vanishing and exploding gradients. In this paper, a novel metaheuristic optimisation
approach is proposed for training deep RNNs for the sentiment classification task. The approach
employs an enhanced Ternary Bees Algorithm (BA-3+), which operates for large dataset classification
problems by considering only three individual solutions in each iteration. BA-3+ combines the
collaborative search of three bees to find the optimal set of trainable parameters of the proposed deep
recurrent learning architecture. Local learning with exploitative search utilises the greedy selection
strategy. Stochastic gradient descent (SGD) learning with singular value decomposition (SVD) aims to
handle vanishing and exploding gradients of the decision parameters with the stabilisation strategy
of SVD. Global learning with explorative search achieves faster convergence without getting trapped
at local optima to find the optimal set of trainable parameters of the proposed deep recurrent learning
architecture. BA-3+ has been tested on the sentiment classification task to classify symmetric and
asymmetric distribution of the datasets from different domains, including Twitter, product reviews,
and movie reviews. Comparative results have been obtained for advanced deep language models and
Differential Evolution (DE) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms. BA-3+ converged
to the global minimum faster than the DE and PSO algorithms, and it outperformed the SGD, DE,
and PSO algorithms for the Turkish and English datasets. The accuracy value and F1 measure have
improved at least with a 30–40% improvement than the standard SGD algorithm for all classification
datasets. Accuracy rates in the RNN model trained with BA-3+ ranged from 80% to 90%, while the
RNN trained with SGD was able to achieve between 50% and 60% for most datasets. The performance
of the RNN model with BA-3+ has as good as for Tree-LSTMs and Recursive Neural Tensor Networks
(RNTNs) language models, which achieved accuracy results of up to 90% for some datasets. The
improved accuracy and convergence results show that BA-3+ is an efficient, stable algorithm for the
complex classification task, and it can handle the vanishing and exploding gradients problem of
deep RNNs
RESULTS AND CHALLENGES OF ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS USED FOR DECISION-MAKING AND CONTROL IN MEDICAL APPLICATIONS
The aim of this paper is to present several approaches by which technology can assist medical decision-making. This is an essential, but also a difficult activity, which implies a large number of medical and technical aspects. But, more important, it involves humans: on the one hand, the patient, who has a medical problem and who requires the best solution; on the other hand, the physician, who should be able to provide, in any circumstances, a decision or a prediction regarding the current and the future medical status of the patient. The technology, in general, and particularly the Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools could help both of them, and it is assisted by appropriate theory regarding modeling tools. One of the most powerful mechanisms that can be used in this field is the Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). This paper presents some of the results obtained by the Process Control group of the Politehnica University Timisoara, Romania, in the field of ANNs applied to modeling, prediction and decision-making related to medical systems. An Iterative Learning Control-based approach to batch training a feedforward ANN architecture is given. The paper includes authors’ concerns in this domain and emphasizes that these intelligent models, even if they are artificial, are able to make decisions, being useful tools for prevention, early detection and personalized healthcare
A Survey on Particle Swarm Optimization for Association Rule Mining
Association rule mining (ARM) is one of the core techniques of data mining to discover potentially valuable association relationships from mixed datasets. In the current research, various heuristic algorithms have been introduced into ARM to address the high computation time of traditional ARM. Although a more detailed review of the heuristic algorithms based on ARM is available, this paper differs from the existing reviews in that we expected it to provide a more comprehensive and multi-faceted survey of emerging research, which could provide a reference for researchers in the field to help them understand the state-of-the-art PSO-based ARM algorithms. In this paper, we review the existing research results. Heuristic algorithms for ARM were divided into three main groups, including biologically inspired, physically inspired, and other algorithms. Additionally, different types of ARM and their evaluation metrics are described in this paper, and the current status of the improvement in PSO algorithms is discussed in stages, including swarm initialization, algorithm parameter optimization, optimal particle update, and velocity and position updates. Furthermore, we discuss the applications of PSO-based ARM algorithms and propose further research directions by exploring the existing problems.publishedVersio
