Microstructure Alterations of Ti-6Al-4V ELI during Turning by Using Tungsten Carbide Inserts under Dry Cutting Condition

    Get PDF
Titanium alloys possesses a hexagonal close packed(h.c.p) structure, called phase to ambient temperature. Thisstructure changes to body center cubic (b.c.c), called phase tothe temperature of 882 C. Machining process that generates hightemperature during machining can affect on microstructures ofmachined surface, which represents as a quality of components. The turning parameters evaluated are cutting speed (55 - 95m/min), feed rate (0.15 - 0.35 mm/rev), depth of cut (0.10 - 0.20mm) and tool grade (uncoated, CVD and PVD). The aims of thispaper are to investigate the effects of machining process onmicrostructures of machined surface and chip were machinedusing tungsten carbide inserts under dry cutting condition. Theresults show that machining at high cutting speed (95 m/min)affected on the microstructure significantly at the end ofmachining. The temperature is the most significant factoraffected on microstructure of the machined surface and chip atshear zone. The changes of microstructure were also affected bythe tool pressure during cutting

Brucella infection in migratory cattle herds in Jigawa State Nigeria: A cross sectional study

    Get PDF
A cross sectional study on Brucella infection was carried out in Jigawa State in order to evaluate seroprevalence and transmission exposure factors among migratory cattle herds. A total of 1,810 cattle of different ages and sexes were systematically selected from 147 herds across four agricultural zones in the State and screened using Serum Agglutination Test (SAT) while closed ended questionnaire was used to evaluate exposure factors. From the results out of the 1,810 (serum samples) (3.37%) tested positive. Females showed higher seropositivity (3.6%) to the infection, compared to males (2.7%). Cattle of age 4-5 years had the highest prevalence (7%), compared to 3-4 years (4.5%), 2-3years (2%), 1-2years (0.8%), with no positive reactor among cattle of less than one year (0%). Seropositive animals according to the locations was found to be highest in Zone III (5.2%), followed by Zone IV (3.9%) and Zone I (2.4%), and least in Zone II (1.5%). A higher herd prevalence was recorded in Zone III (29%), followed by Zone IV (21%) and Zone I (17%), with lowest in Zone II (12%). The overall herd prevalence was 20.4%. There was association between herds that do not practice quarantine, raise multiple species, share communal  pastures and water points with Brucella infection (P< 0.05) and they are more likely to acquire the infection as indicated by odds ratio. In conclusion the results have indicated that Brucella infection exists in the studied herds and some exposure factors were identified. It is hereby recommended that herd owners should practice quarantine of newly purchased animals, avoid herding multiple species of animals  together, carryout routine testing and minimize contacts at grazing and water points.

Tau-Sleptons and Tau-Sneutrino in the MSSM with Complex Parameters

We present a phenomenological study of tau-sleptons stau_1,2 and tau-sneutrino in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters A_tau, mu and M_1. We analyse production and decays of stau_1,2 and tau-sneutrino at a future e^+ e^- collider. We present numerical predictions for the important decay rates, paying particular attention to their dependence on the complex parameters. The branching ratios of the fermionic decays of stau_1 and tau-sneutrino show a significant phase dependence for tan(beta) < 10. For tan(beta) > 10 the branching ratios for the stau_2 decays into Higgs bosons depend very sensitively on the phases. We show how information on the phase phi(A_tau) and the other fundamental stau parameters can be obtained from measurements of the stau masses, polarized cross sections and bosonic and fermionic decay branching ratios, for small and large tan(beta) values. We estimate the expected errors for these parameters. Given favorable conditions, the error of A_tau is about 10% to 20%, while the errors of the remaining stau parameters are in the range of approximately 1% to 3%. We also show that the induced electric dipole moment of the tau-lepton is well below the current experimental limit.Comment: LaTex, 25 pages, 11 figures (included); v2: extended discussion on error determination, version to appear in Phys.Rev.

Murine Typhus and Leptospirosis as Causes of Acute Undifferentiated Fever, Indonesia

    Get PDF
To investigate rickettsioses and leptospirosis among urban residents of Semarang, Indonesia, we tested the blood of 137 patients with fever. Evidence of Rickettsia typhi, the agent of murine typhus, was found in 9 patients. Another 9 patients showed inconclusive serologic results. Thirteen patients received a diagnosis of leptospirosis. No dual infections were detected

CP asymmetries in the supersymmetric trilepton signal at the LHC

In the CP-violating Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, we study the production of a neutralino-chargino pair at the LHC. For their decays into three leptons, we analyze CP asymmetries which are sensitive to the CP phases of the neutralino and chargino sector. We present analytical formulas for the entire production and decay process, and identify the CP-violating contributions in the spin correlation terms. This allows us to define the optimal CP asymmetries. We present a detailed numerical analysis of the cross sections, branching ratios, and the CP observables. For light neutralinos, charginos, and squarks, the asymmetries can reach several 10%. We estimate the discovery potential for the LHC to observe CP violation in the trilepton channel.Comment: 39 pages, 8 figures, version to appear in EPJC, discussion(s) added, typo in (D.79), (D.118) corrected, new Fig. 7; The European Physical Journal C, Volume 72, Issue 3, 201
