A search is performed for a massive new vector-like quark T, with charge 2/3, that is pair produced together with its antiparticle in proton-proton collisions. The data were collected by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider in 2012 at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 inverse femtobarns. The T quark is assumed to decay into three different final states, bW, tZ, and tH. The search is carried out using events with at least one isolated lepton. No deviations from standard model expectations are observed, and lower limits are set on the T quark mass at 95% confidence level. The lower limit lies between 687 and 782 GeV for all possible values of the branching fractions into the three different final states assuming strong production. These limits are the most stringent constraints to date on the existence of such a quark

Open Access, Copyright CERN, for the benefit of the CMS Collaboration. Article funded by SCOAP3.Abstract: The cross section for the production of Zγ in proton-proton collisions at 8 TeV is measured based on data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1. Events with an oppositely-charged pair of muons or electrons together with an isolated photon are selected. The differential cross section as a function of the photon transverse momentum is measured inclusively and exclusively, where the exclusive selection applies a veto on central jets. The observed cross sections are compatible with the expectations of next-to-next-to-leading-order quantum chromodynamics. Limits on anomalous triple gauge couplings of ZZγ and Zγγ are set that improve on previous experimental results obtained with the charged lepton decay modes of the Z boson

Single-inclusive production of large-pT charged particles in hadronic collisions at TeV energies and perturbative QCD predictions

    No full text
The single inclusive spectrum of charged particles with transverse momenta pT = 3 – 150 GeV/c measured at midrapidity by the CDF experiment in proton-antiproton (ppˉ) \left( {p - \bar{p}} \right) collisions at s=1.96 TeV \sqrt {s} = 1.96{\text{ TeV}} is compared to next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculations using the most recent parametrizations of the parton distributions and parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions. Above pT ≈ 20 GeV/c, there is a very sizeable disagreement of the Tevatron data compared to the NLO predictions and to xT-scaling expectations, suggesting a problem in the experimental data. We also present the predictions for the pT-differential charged hadron spectra and the associated theoretical uncertainties for proton-proton (p-p) collisions at LHC energies (s=0.914 TeV) \left( {\sqrt {s} = 0.9 - 14{\text{ TeV}}} \right) . Two procedures to estimate the charged hadron spectra at LHC heavy-ion collision energies (s=2.76) \left(\sqrt {s} = 2.76 \right) , 5.5 TeV) from p-p measurements are suggested

Partial Replacement of Fish Meal with Plant Protein Sources Singly and in Combination in Diets for Summer Flounder, Paralichthys dentatus

Soybean meal (SBM), corn gluten meal (CGM), and canola protein concentrate (CPC) as alternative protein sources to fish meal (FM) were individually evaluated for growth performance at 0, 20, 30, 40, and 50% replacement with amino acid (AA) supplementation using juvenile summer flounder, Paralichthys dentatus, in an 8-wk feeding. Two-way ANOVA indicated no significant main effect for plant protein source, but a significant main effect for replacement level. Comparison of the individual treatments revealed significant differences in weight gain (WG) between the FM treatment and 50% replacement level for all protein sources, as well as between the FM treatment and 30% replacement with CPC. Replacement of FM with SBM at 40% resulted in the least cost/kg WG. In a follow-up study, a combination of SBM-CGM-CPC at 40% replacement was evaluated with and without AA, phytase (0.2%), or taurine (1%), versus FM and SBM (40% replacement of FM) with AA. The SBM-CGM-CPC diet with either AA or taurine provided a significantly better food conversion ratio and less cost/kg WG than the SBM diet, and the SBM-CGM-CPC diet with taurine provided a significantly better protein efficiency ratio than the SBM diet. On the basis of these results, more study of taurine in plant protein diets for summer flounder appears warranted. © by the World Aquaculture Society 2011

Search for CP violation in D+→K−K+π+ decays

    No full text
A model-independent search for direct C P violation in the Cabibbo-suppressed decay D + → K − K + π + in a sample of approximately 370 000 decays is carried out. The data were collected by the LHCb experiment in 2010 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35     pb − 1 . The normalized Dalitz plot distributions for D + and D − are compared using four different binning schemes that are sensitive to different manifestations of C P violation. No evidence for C P asymmetry is found

Determination of fs/fd for 7 TeV pp Collisions and Measurement of the B0→D−K+ Branching Fraction

    No full text
    The relative abundance of the three decay modes B 0 → D − K + , B 0 → D − π + , and B 0 s → D − s π + produced in 7 TeV p p collisions at the LHC is determined from data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35     pb − 1 . The branching fraction of B 0 → D − K + is found to be B ( B 0 → D − K + ) = ( 2.01 ± 0.18 stat ± 0.14 syst ) × 10 − 4 . The ratio of fragmentation fractions f s / f d is determined through the relative abundance of B 0 s → D − s π + to B 0 → D − K + and B 0 → D − π + , leading to f s / f d = 0.253 ± 0.017 ± 0.017 ± 0.020 , where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and theoretical, respectively
