    Thermal shock behaviour on generalized thermoelastic semi-infinite medium with moving heat source under Green Naghdi-III model

    The present article deals with the thermal shock response in an isotropic thermoelastic medium with a moving heat source. In this context Green and Naghdi type III model of generalized thermoelasticity theory is considered. The basic equations are expressed as vector-matrix differential equation form. The considered formulation is applied to a semi-infinite solid space. The analytical formulations of the problem in the Laplace transform domain have been solved by eigenvalue approach technique. The inversion of Laplace transform is completed by Zakian method. The variation of the temperature, displacement and stress distributions for different values of time and heat source velocity are shown graphically for two different cases. In the first case, a thermal shock free surface is considered subjected to traction and in the second case the surface is under the influence of time dependent thermal shock. Finally, some comparisons of the results for different time and moving heat source velocity are presented. In presence of moving heat source all the thermophysical quantities have a great significant effect in all the distributions

    The outcome of preterm births in pregnant women with hypertensive disorders: an observational study

    Background: Hypertensive conditions occurring during pregnancy are linked to heightened chances of severe consequences, including preterm birth, intrauterine growth restriction, perinatal mortality and morbidity, acute kidney failure, sudden liver malfunction, excessive postpartum bleeding, HELLP Syndrome, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and seizures. Methods: A prospective hospital-based study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital of eastern Uttar Pradesh, over the period of one year. The total sample size calculated was 235. Data was collected using the structured questionnaire. This study recruited the hypertensive pregnant women with a blood pressure reading of 140/90 mmHg or higher, irrespective of the timing of the blood pressure elevation, who visited the hospital for delivery over the course of one year. Various maternal variables were examined, including age, gestational age, number of previous deliveries, the status of the mother's blood pressure, and the type of delivery. Results: In the present study, the births revealed the following distribution among different hypertensive disorders: chronic hypertension preterm: 100.0% 06 vs. term: 0% 0, eclampsia, preterm: 60.4% 64 vs. term: 39.6% 42, mild preeclampsia, preterm: 55.3% vs. term: 44.7%, severe preeclampsia, preterm: 48.5% vs. term: 51.5%, and gestational hypertension, preterm: 23.5% vs. term: 76.5%. Conclusions: Based on the findings of this study, it was determined that hypertensive disorders play a pivotal role in influencing both the frequency of preterm delivery and the associated complications in infants resulting from premature birth

    Two-Dimensional Nanostrips of Hydrophobic Copper Tetradecanoate for Making Self-Cleaning Glasses

    We report a simple, solution-based technique for coating arbitrary surfaces with thin layers of self-assembled copper tetradecanoate (CTD) nanostrips, resulting in an optically transparent, superhydrophobic coating. The nanostrip-coated surfaces show water contact angles close to 150° and roll-off angles as small as 2°-3°. Importantly, CTD retains its hydrophobic nature even after annealing the self-assembled nanostrips at 200°C, which does not alter the crystal structure but “melts” the surface microstructure. This clearly indicates that the hydrophobicity in CTD is likely to be intrinsic in nature and not induced by the surface microstructure (as has been suggested earlier). Strong hydrophobicity in CTD over a relatively wide temperature range presumably results from the presence of the long aliphatic (tetradecanoate) chains in its structure. Importantly, the self-assembled copper tetradecanoate nanostrips can be dip-coated on glass to render it hydrophobic and at the same time retain a significant level of transparency over the entire visible region. Such nanostructured thin films may be expected to find applications not only as a self-cleaning glass, but also as a corrosion resistant coating, in gas storage (due to the layered structure), and as an active catalyst because of the visible absorbance

    Search for dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks in √s = 13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

    A search for weakly interacting massive particle dark matter produced in association with bottom or top quarks is presented. Final states containing third-generation quarks and miss- ing transverse momentum are considered. The analysis uses 36.1 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at √s = 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016. No significant excess of events above the estimated backgrounds is observed. The results are in- terpreted in the framework of simplified models of spin-0 dark-matter mediators. For colour- neutral spin-0 mediators produced in association with top quarks and decaying into a pair of dark-matter particles, mediator masses below 50 GeV are excluded assuming a dark-matter candidate mass of 1 GeV and unitary couplings. For scalar and pseudoscalar mediators produced in association with bottom quarks, the search sets limits on the production cross- section of 300 times the predicted rate for mediators with masses between 10 and 50 GeV and assuming a dark-matter mass of 1 GeV and unitary coupling. Constraints on colour- charged scalar simplified models are also presented. Assuming a dark-matter particle mass of 35 GeV, mediator particles with mass below 1.1 TeV are excluded for couplings yielding a dark-matter relic density consistent with measurements
