The anapole moment and nucleon weak interactions
From the recent measurement of parity nonconservation (PNC) in the Cs atom we
have extracted the constant of the nuclear spin dependent electron-nucleon PNC
interaction, ; the anapole moment constant, ; the strength of the PNC proton-nucleus potential, ; the -meson-nucleon interaction constant,
; and the strength of the neutron-nucleus potential, .Comment: Uses RevTex, 12 pages. We have added an explanation of the effect of

Nonlinear Stability in the Generalised Photogravitational Restricted Three Body Problem with Poynting-Robertson Drag
The Nonlinear stability of triangular equilibrium points has been discussed
in the generalised photogravitational restricted three body problem with
Poynting-Robertson drag. The problem is generalised in the sense that smaller
primary is supposed to be an oblate spheroid. The bigger primary is considered
as radiating. We have performed first and second order normalization of the
Hamiltonian of the problem. We have applied KAM theorem to examine the
condition of non-linear stability. We have found three critical mass ratios.
Finally we conclude that triangular points are stable in the nonlinear sense
except three critical mass ratios at which KAM theorem fails.Comment: Including Poynting-Robertson Drag the triangular equilibrium points
are stable in the nonlinear sense except three critical mass ratios at which
KAM theorem fail
First-principles study of lattice instabilities in the ferromagnetic martensite NiMnGa
The phonon dispersion relations and elastic constants for ferromagnetic
NiMnGa in the cubic and tetragonally distorted Heusler structures are
computed using density-functional and density-functional perturbation theory
within the spin-polarized generalized-gradient approximation. For
, the TA tranverse acoustic branch along and
symmetry-related directions displays a dynamical instability at a wavevector
that depends on . Through examination of the Fermi-surface nesting and
electron-phonon coupling, this is identified as a Kohn anomaly. In the parent
cubic phase the computed tetragonal shear elastic constant,
C=(CC)/2, is close to zero, indicating a marginal
elastic instability towards a uniform tetragonal distortion. We conclude that
the cubic Heusler structure is unstable against a family of energy-lowering
distortions produced by the coupling between a uniform tetragonal distortion
and the corresponding modulation. The computed relation between the
ratio and the modulation wavevector is in excellent agreement with
structural data on the premartensitic ( = 1) and martensitic ( =
0.94) phases of NiMnGa.Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev.
Coexistence of ferro- and antiferromagnetic order in Mn-doped NiMnGa
Ni-Mn-Ga is interesting as a prototype of a magnetic shape-memory alloy
showing large magnetic field induced strains. We present here results for the
magnetic ordering of Mn-rich Ni-Mn-Ga alloys based on both experiments and
theory. Experimental trends for the composition dependence of the magnetization
are measured by a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) in magnetic fields of up
to several tesla and at low temperatures. The saturation magnetization has a
maximum near the stoichiometric composition and it decreases with increasing Mn
content. This unexpected behaviour is interpreted via first-principles
calculations within the density-functional theory. We show that extra Mn atoms
are antiferromagnetically aligned to the other moments, which explains the
dependence of the magnetization on composition. In addition, the effect of Mn
doping on the stabilization of the structural phases and on the magnetic
anisotropy energy is demonstrated.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Enhancement factor for the electron electric dipole moment in francium and gold atoms
If electrons had an electric dipole moment (EDM) they would induce EDMs of
atoms. The ratio of the atomic EDM to the electron EDM for a particular atom is
called the enhancement factor, R. We calculate the enhancement factor for the
francium and gold atoms, with the results 910 plus/minus 5% for Fr and 260
plus/minus 15% for Au. The large values of these enhancement factors make these
atoms attractive for electron EDM measurements, and hence the search for
time-reversal invariance violation.Comment: 6 pages, no figures, uses RevTex, reference adde
The Effect of Radiation Pressure on the Equilibrium Points in the Generalised Photogravitational Restricted Three Body Problem
The existence of equilibrium points and the effect of radiation pressure have
been discussed numerically. The problem is generalized by considering bigger
primary as a source of radiation and small primary as an oblate spheroid. We
have also discussed the Poynting-Robertson(P-R) effect which is caused due to
radiation pressure. It is found that the collinear points deviate
from the axis joining the two primaries, while the triangular points
are not symmetrical due to radiation pressure. We have seen that
are linearly unstable while are conditionally stable in the sense of
Lyapunov when P-R effect is not considered. We have found that the effect of
radiation pressure reduces the linear stability zones while P-R effect induces
an instability in the sense of Lyapunov
Quantifying Entanglement Production of Quantum Operations
The problem of entanglement produced by an arbitrary operator is formulated
and a related measure of entanglement production is introduced. This measure of
entanglement production satisfies all properties natural for such a
characteristic. A particular case is the entanglement produced by a density
operator or a density matrix. The suggested measure is valid for operations
over pure states as well as over mixed states, for equilibrium as well as
nonequilibrium processes. Systems of arbitrary nature can be treated, described
either by field operators, spin operators, or any other kind of operators,
which is realized by constructing generalized density matrices. The interplay
between entanglement production and phase transitions in statistical systems is
analysed by the examples of Bose-Einstein condensation, superconducting
transition, and magnetic transitions. The relation between the measure of
entanglement production and order indices is analysed.Comment: 20 pages, Revte
Violations of fundamental symmetries in atoms and tests of unification theories of elementary particles
High-precision measurements of violations of fundamental symmetries in atoms
are a very effective means of testing the standard model of elementary
particles and searching for new physics beyond it. Such studies complement
measurements at high energies. We review the recent progress in atomic parity
nonconservation and atomic electric dipole moments (time reversal symmetry
violation), with a particular focus on the atomic theory required to interpret
the measurements.Comment: 103 pages, 23 figures; submitted to Physics Reports; comments welcom

Search for displaced vertices arising from decays of new heavy particles in 7 TeV pp collisions at ATLAS
We present the results of a search for new, heavy particles that decay at a
significant distance from their production point into a final state containing
charged hadrons in association with a high-momentum muon. The search is
conducted in a pp-collision data sample with a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV
and an integrated luminosity of 33 pb^-1 collected in 2010 by the ATLAS
detector operating at the Large Hadron Collider. Production of such particles
is expected in various scenarios of physics beyond the standard model. We
observe no signal and place limits on the production cross-section of
supersymmetric particles in an R-parity-violating scenario as a function of the
neutralino lifetime. Limits are presented for different squark and neutralino
masses, enabling extension of the limits to a variety of other models.Comment: 8 pages plus author list (20 pages total), 8 figures, 1 table, final
