The Disappearance of The French New Wave

    Get PDF
The French New Wave is considered to be one of the most influential waves within cinema history, starting from the end of the 1950s, going all the way through the 1960s. Thanks to the directors of this era, there have been a myriad of movies that challenged the norms of filmmaking, redefining the techniques used and the stories told within cinema. However, if this era was so fruitful and is deemed to be so valuable for cinema in general, then why did it not continue? In this paper, I will be taking a look at French society, external influences, as well as the production of several crucial New Wave films in order to better understand the development and the later dissolution of the French New Wave

AbstractThis paper addresses the application of Self-adaptive Global Best Harmony Search (SGHS) algorithm for the supervised training of feed-forward neural networks (NNs). A structure suitable to data representation of NNs is adapted to SGHS algorithm. The technique is empirically tested and verified by training NNs on two classification benchmarking problems. Overall training time, sum of squared errors, training and testing accuracies of SGHS algorithm is compared with other harmony search algorithms and the standard back-propagation algorithm. The experiments presented that the proposed algorithm lends itself very well to training of NNs and it is also highly competitive with the compared methods

The heavy metal content of dried fruits, seed and nuts show some fluctuations depending on the source of fruit, seed and nut types. The amounts of Cd and Co in air-dried fruit samples ranged from 0.05721 µg/g (white mulberry) and 0.21724 (persimmon) to 0.05101 (white mulberry) and 0.40833 µg/g (persimmon), respectively. Also, the content of Cr and Mo in dried fruit samples was found to be between 5.05 (white mulberry) and 15.85 (persimmon) and 0.01374 µg/g (white mulberry) and 0.15071 (persimmon), respectively. The heavy metal content of the fruits was different. The content of Cr, Ni and Pb in fruits is higher than other heavy metals. The content of Pb and Se in nuts and seeds is determined to be between 0.04613 (sunflower) and 0.66848 µg/g (roasted pumpkin) and 0.237 (raw almond) and 1.85 µg/g (salted peanut), respectively. The concentration order of elements in different edible seed and nuts was: Cr >Ni > Pb > Se >Co >Cd >Mo

The physico-chemical properties, phytochemicals, mineral contents of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) seeds grown at Samsun province in Turkey were evaluated. The oil contents of tobacco seeds ranged from 20.6% (control) to 29.0% (microwave-roasted). L*, a* and b* values of tobacco seeds ranged from 32.38 to 35.61; from 6.32 to 6.78; from 13.72 to 14.27, respectively. Total phenolic contents of tobacco seed extract and oils were reported between 31.02 (oven-roasted) and 34.42 mg GAE/100 g (microwave-roasted) to 4.60 (microwave-roasted) and 6.45 mg GAE/100 g (oven-roasted), respectively. Total flavonoid values of raw and roasted tobacco seed extract and oils were determined between 26.62 (oven) and 67.10 mg/100 g (control) to 21.57 (control) and 44.71 mg/100 g (microwave-roasted), respectively. Gallic acid, 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid and catechin are the predominant phenolic components of raw and roasted tobacco seed oils. The amounts of oleic and linoleic acid in raw and roasted tobacco seed oils ranged from 10.23% (oven-roasted) to 12.48% (control) and 73.72% (control) to 76.63% (oven-roasted), respectively. The abundant elements found in seeds were K, P, Ca, Mg, S and Fe. The mineral amounts of the roasted seeds were found higher than that of the control. The highest increase was detected in oven roasted tobacco seeds

Metaheuristic design of feedforward neural networks: a review of two decades of research

    Get PDF
Over the past two decades, the feedforward neural network (FNN) optimization has been a key interest among the researchers and practitioners of multiple disciplines. The FNN optimization is often viewed from the various perspectives: the optimization of weights, network architecture, activation nodes, learning parameters, learning environment, etc. Researchers adopted such different viewpoints mainly to improve the FNN's generalization ability. The gradient-descent algorithm such as backpropagation has been widely applied to optimize the FNNs. Its success is evident from the FNN's application to numerous real-world problems. However, due to the limitations of the gradient-based optimization methods, the metaheuristic algorithms including the evolutionary algorithms, swarm intelligence, etc., are still being widely explored by the researchers aiming to obtain generalized FNN for a given problem. This article attempts to summarize a broad spectrum of FNN optimization methodologies including conventional and metaheuristic approaches. This article also tries to connect various research directions emerged out of the FNN optimization practices, such as evolving neural network (NN), cooperative coevolution NN, complex-valued NN, deep learning, extreme learning machine, quantum NN, etc. Additionally, it provides interesting research challenges for future research to cope-up with the present information processing era

THE FORMATION OF CHARACTER SKETCHES FOLLOWING THE DRAMATURGICAL STUDY OF COSTUME DESIGNERAmongst the visual components that contı:ibute to the dramatica! action of a play, costume is the foremost.Costume designers know that when an actor walks onto the stage for the first time, the audiencesfeelings about the character will, to a great extent, be based on the information that guides all firstimpressions. For that end, at once, the play should be interpreted with a fresh point of view following asound dramaturgical analysİs, to say, what means the dramaturgical structure of the play should beexpressed by using form, color and texture</p
